Boston Celtics executive Heather Walker passed away Wednesday morning after a long battle with brain cancer.

Her family had posted about a week ago that she had entered hospice care. She was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer, in July of 2021.

During her cancer battle, Walker launched the "Move 4 Heather" campaign, which encouraged people to get active, post pictures on social media, and donate to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

The campaign raised nearly $650,000 for cancer research.

Walker had worked for the Celtics for 17 years. She leaves behind a husband and two young daughters.

She was 52 years old.

If I'm remembering right, she was honored as the "Hero Among Us" the same night as KG's jersey retirement.  I was at the game, and it was clear that there was a bond between those two. She seems to have touched a lot of lives.

RIP.

I believe you’re correct Roy.

Heather was an incredibly kind person who fought this disease for years and had an incalculable impact on her community as a result. Her presence in Boston will be missed terribly.

This is such sad news. Heather was really good at her job. More importantly, she always had a smile. She was a force of positive energy. I hope her family can keep that with them forever.

We’re deeply saddened to hear about Heather’s passing.

Our team was fortunate to know and work with Heather on countless occasions.

This is so sad! Heather has been so nice to be during my 18 years covering the Celtics. When I first arrived she always made sure I got the information first on any Ryan Gomes public appearances.

Thoughts and prayers to her family. May she rest in peace!

Today is a devastating day for everyone in the Celtics community. Heather Walker brought a warmth and energy to every room she walked into and we were so lucky to have her in our lives. I’ll always cherish every sarcastic joke, every belly laugh with Heather and miss her dearly.

Condolences to her family and to the Cs for her loss. I did read a lot about what was happening to her and what she had achieved.
Any odd typos are because I suck at typing on an iPhone :D

over on SoSH a couple of posters knew her since they were connected to the celtics organization.

everything being written above seems to be true about her. she was warm, generous, helping, caring, and a delightful human being.

it is a loss to be sure.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.
