So watching the Nets game I saw White with a critical block during the game.  Turns out that on the Celtics he is the third most prolific shot blocker on the team (1.0 /game) behind Rob and Al, no surprise.  However, I was surprised that he blocks more shots per game than the Jays.  Checking the league leaders for guards only, I was also surprised to see that he is the 2nd most prolific shot blocker in the NBA behind Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.  If he was playing starter minutes like mid 30s rather than his 26.6, he would probably be number one.  Also, he has the fourth most steals on the Celtics behind Marcus and the Jays.  Anyway, the Celtics are lucky to have such a solid defensive guard to back up Brown and Smart.  Defense is clearly his strength.

I don’t remember D-White blocking many shots last year, but this season he’s been really impressive in that regard. Better athlete than I thought he was.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

hes a tall dude- and Long as well. when I watched his highlights before we acquired him. I noticed how long he is. His blocks have been game changing as well. like on key possessions.

I am generally of the belief that blocks, along with steals, are overrated stats when it comes to correlating with overall defensive ability.  They matter, but getting a high number of blocks or steals does not necessarily mean you are a good defender.  Going for blocks or steals can result in you being out of position or fouling.  You may have good numbers for blocks but you also give up easy baskets too often by being out of position as a result of going to a steal and missing, or going for block and fouling.

That said, I think White is a good overall defender.  He gets his blocks and steals by playing good sound overall defense.  Or another way to say it is that he gets them without sacrificing good sound defense in general.  He is just one of those guys who does things that help you win that are not always apparent.  He is a pretty unique player actually.

Good points and I agree.  While I like him as a player, I don't care for his hair style.

He's 6'3" but uve always thought he plays more like a 6'5" player.  6'7" wingspan but again,  playa bigger than that.

Still better than Trea Young, who looks like a homeless dude.

D White’s hair makes him taller. Taller players are usually better shot blockers. I think his hair makes him a better shot blocker. Imagine if Timelord could grow his hair like D White. No one would score in the paint!
