Opening night 15 man active roster?

Smart        White          Davison (2W)
Brown        Brogdon      Pritchard
Tatum        Harkless      Hauser
Gwilliams   Griffin          Kabengele (2W)
Horford      Vonleh         Kornet

(Gallinari, RWill Injured, inactive).

This is just the roster, not implying anything about who plays when or what players roles will be.  Just slotting players into the traditional 5 x 3 depth matrix.  For example, Pritchard may play more than Harkless or Hauser or whoever ends up in that #2 SF slot.

In reality, Smart, Brown, Tatum, White, and Brogdon are going to eat up most of the PG/SG/SF minutes most nights.  There won't be much need to play Pritchard, Hauser, or whoever.

Hopefully, Favors gets that last spot.

Something like this?

I think people are overreacting a bit to Favors.  He could help, but he isn't that good.  Better than Kornet, for sure.  He has been 5 pts/5 rebs in 15 min or so the last couple of years.  Useful, but not a real needle mover.  We might get more out of Vonleh.

The Boston Celtics have waived Jake Layman, a league source tells @celticsblog and @spotrac.

Adrian Wojnarowski: Forward/center Noah Vonleh has made the Boston Celtics opening night roster, sources tell ESPN. Vonleh capped his preseason with a 14 point, 13-rebound game vs. Charlotte. A former lottery pick, he played last season in China.

So, that makes 14 roster spots.  The only guy left to decide on is Justin Jackson.  I guess Kornet, too, but I expect he makes the team.

I really, really want Favors.  He fits our team perfectly.

Surprising. I wonder if they checked in on Harkless or others and found they weren’t interested. In any case, Jackson, Kornet, and maybe even Vonleh may just be keeping seats warm.

I really liked Justin Jackson coming out in the draft. He is yet to put it together. He has some skill but he needs to find some consistency. He's long and rangy but he seems to play better when he hits a few shots. If he's not hitting he seems to just give up. I have no problem with him as the 14th or 15th guy on the roster.

I’m going to keep my eye on Charles Matthews for Maine this season. IMO, he has tonnes of potential to eventually make the roster or get a two way contract.

The poor guy tore his ACL working out for the Celtics before the 2019 NBA Draft.

I remember watching him for Michigan against Indiana and he completely shut down Romeo Langford.

He looks like a good defender but he really needs to work on his outside shooting. He could turn into something. Injuries suck.

Jackson shouldn’t get too comfortable either.

I would say Jackson probably keeping seat warm.  Vonleh possibly keeping seat warm.  And Kornet probably safe.

Vonleh averaged 7 rpg in 14 mpg during the preseason. He seems like the perfect guy for Al to take under his wing.

If he can rebound, set hard screens, and hit a 3 now and then, he'll be just what this team needs.
