The final five MVP list:

- Jokic
- Embiid
- Antetokounmpo
- Booker
- Doncic

Booker is the only American candidate, you have to ask if star U.S players are losing their edge?

Can't argue with that list. They got it right. I expect Tatum to get in there next season.

One of the most admirable things about the foreign players is that in general they are loyal to the cities who drafted them.  In general they don’t go chasing after LA or NY.

I'd put Luka over Booker but it's not big a difference.

Booker? Booker?? Booker! Really!

What is this MVP shortlist crap? Is this to stop guys like PJ Brown getting a 5th place vote from a local broadcaster? I see no need for it. One odd vote here or there makes no difference to the final outcome and keeping the field open to all participants is much better than restricting to 5 of whoever's choosing it was.

And he's barely from the US (Alaska)

Why do people hate on Booker? Suns have by far the best record in the league and he's putting up 27/5/5 on 47% shooting, 38% from 3, and 87% from the line.

Yes, CP3 is important to them. But that's not a 64-win team without him.
2021 Houston Rockets

SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo/Robert Covington
C: Kristaps Porzingis/Bobby Portis/James Wiseman

I think there's a wide gulf between "hate" and thinking he's not a top 5 MVP candidate this season. And he absolutely is not ahead of Doncic or Tatum IMO

he isn't a better player but it is certainly reasonable to think he is a better mvp candidate.  Those aren't the same thing.

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson

Right. I just don't think he is either

List is perfect other than Booker. He’s been good but he’s not a top 5 MVP candidate.

My bad guys, the MVP finalist list is only 3; Antetokounmpo, Jokic, Embiid.

My apologies for the mistake.

Do they have a second vote now between these 3?

Or is this just to build tension before announcing the winner?

I believe it’s just to build tension for their awards show.

But I posted this HoopsHype article in which they’ve calculated the MVP will be won by Jokic.

I plucked this from Reddit, so credit to whoever has been doing this, but it is a google docs spreadsheet giving exact results from specific reporters. Of note, Marcus Smart is currently running away with DPOY and Tatum looks to be a sure-thing 1st Teamer since Embiid will certainly get more of his votes at Center.

Tatum is still leading regardless, but remember last season when Tatum didn't get 3rd Team (or his $32M 'bonus') over Kyrie even though he had more votes. That was because Tatum would have had to get in as a Guard, but more of his votes were at Forward, so that is where he had to be placed. Anyway, take a look:
