Surprised not to see Gary Tent Jr mentioned yet. Over the past 2 seasons he's shooting 39% on 8 3's a game. He has much better defense then most "shooters". He just turned 23. He fits into our exception.

Thoughts on something based around Williams for Trent, Achiuwa

As John Bender would say....

I think this is a lot closer to Robs trade value then Celtics fan are willing to accept.

Trent, Achiuwa and loto protected 1st for R Williams and Richardson seems like a fair deal.

Rob's injury history is not going away and cashing in on his current play could be a key piece to building around the Jays. Trent is currently on a 5 game 30+ppg streak, is still really young, and is a plus defender. He would be a reliable #3 option for the Jays and provide a much needed consistent floor spacer. Achiuwa is a work in progress but moves extremely well for a big and has the tools to be an elite switching big.

Maybe current value for Rob, but the upside is real. You don't trade guys on the upswing for lesser talents/prospects.

And I can't get out of my head earlier this year when the Celtics picked on GTJ with Brown and Tatum (intentionally seeking that mismatch) play after play after play after play. He might get some steals, but he's a turn-table defensively.

I think you're dead wrong on this.  Rob's ranks among centers this year who've played at least 20 games and 25 mpg:

Defensive rating: 2nd
Net rating: 4th
True Shooting: 1st
ORB%: 4th
Blk%:: 4th

He's quickly becoming a top-10 center, and is ascending.  He's on a four-year deal that will be a bargain for such a player.  He's incredibly valuable, and the concept of getting only a rotational shooter on a worse contract, an even more project big, and a single 1st?  That's a major step back with little likelihood you'll ever be better off in the future than having not made the trade.

Maybe more importantly, "accepting" Williams trade value is a total vapor. He doesn't really have a quantifiable trade value, because (and i'd bet real money on this) the Cs aren't talking to other teams about trading him.

Like... you don't think the Cs are happy with his production this year vis-a-vis the extension they JUST signed him to? And didn't the Cs franchise player just state in the press how much he likes playing with RWIII?

The Cs have no reason to trade him.

Yes, as I said earlier in this thread, given his contract length/value and his current level of ascension, even if the C's went for a full tear-down including trading both J's there's no reason to trade Rob, as he could be here in a couple of years when the team is on its way back up.  So you'd only trade Rob if you were getting something that made you a lot better now, or if you're doing a full rebuild, something that could make you a lot better in the future.  This idea would do neither.

Is this where we call people out that thought the Timelord signing was bad? :')

Pretty sure we can start making silly demands now. He's been fantastic.

Don't think I'd trade him yet. He's gonna get better, surely.

Unless you’re getting back a star and Timelord was the only way to get said star without including Brown, then you don’t trade him, certainly not for role players. You’d just be trading one hole in the roster for another.

Timelord is probably one of the more valuable starting-level but not star-level players at this point in time given his mix of productivity, age, and super cost-controlled contract moving forward. For Toronto, I’m not sure if I see something there I’m super excited to trade him for knowing that it’d also take away our starting 5.
