I attended Sam Jones Basketball Camp summer of 1969.  Following their championship over the Lakers and Sam's and Bill's retirement.

Sam was there.  Red.  Tommy Heinsohn.  Satch.  KC. Even Johnny Most (his son attended IIRC).

Camp was run by John Killilea.  Who later served as assistant coach to Celtics.

They're all gone now (except Satch, thank God).

RIP Sam Jones.

TP, footey…great stuff!!! That must’ve been so cool then, but even more so now in retrospect.

I went to a few games back in the 60s, my first in 59, and I can still hear the echoes… “Too late!!!” WHILE he shot that baseline jumper….magic!!!

Thanks, CSFan.  Was my first of several basketball camps I went to.  Still remember Tommy storming into our bunkhouse at 7 AM and yelling at us to wake up and get to breakfast!!

TP to both of you for some great stories/memories. I can just see Tommy rousting you guys out of bed bright and early, lol.

Condolences to Sam's family.

Saw Sam play against the Knicks in a playoff game at MSG when I was still in high school. He scored 51.

Could back his defender down and shoot over him in heavy traffic.

Incredible bank shot shooter.

RIP Sam.

I attended John Havlicek's basketball camp and Sam was a guest speaker. He talked about passing and he picked me to come out on the court and demonstrate a drill with him. Did my very best not to screw it up lol.

What I never realized was how great he was in Game 7's. So apparently Bill Russell says in his book that in  a Game 7 of a championship series, he'd take Sam over any player who's ever walked on a court. That's probably the highest praise you can give a baskeball player.

That's why they called him "Mr. Clutch"
