Smart is playing somewhat smarter but Schroder has run the team since Jaylen was injured and he became a starter.  When Jaylen comes back shouldn't Dennis be the starting point guard?

Yes x100.
x10000

Someone who can actually get inside off the dribble opens up so much for us. Sure, he turns it over more than we'd like. But he is a very serious plus for our offence when he's out there

I think he’s better not starting with Jaylen.  Schröder is best with the ball in his hands, and that limits some of his value, especially with Tatum also on the court.  I think the team is better suited with Schröder coming in whenever one of the J’s first goes out.
I feel like it's robbing Peter to pay Paul a bit. I agree with the premise, but I think our offence stalls a lot when it's Smart-Brown-Tatum-Horford-Timelord

I think it stalls just as much when it’s Schröder instead of Smart.

That said, I think Schröder and Smart actually compliment each other well on the court.
We could go small. Or smaller, rather. I liked the idea of Schroder-Smart-Brown-Tatum and one of the bigs when we first started the year

I didn't like that because it relegated Brown to a corner role once again. I'd just put a shooter out there next to Smart and the Jays tbh.

It's the offense that is run not the rotation itself that puts any player in a corner waiting.

Bring Jaylen Brown off the bench. Start Schroder and Smart next to Tatum. Let Tatum be the man.

I worry a bit about Jaylen, Schroder and Tatum starting together. Schroder is an on-ball player. He doesn't play well off-ball. He needs touches, time on the ball, shot attempts.

I don't know how well Jaylen would take it. I wouldn't take it well if I were in his place. But I'd like to see how it works. Jaylen as our Manu Ginobili. Accept a bit less playing time and individual glory for the sake of team balance & cohesion.

I'm not sure I agree with the idea, but it's certainly left-field.

Too left-field for Ime

You don't bring your best player off the bench.

Celtics have a new leader in on/off differential, per Cleaning the Glass: Marcus Smart. The Celtics have outscored opponents in non-garbage time minutes by 15.8 points per 100 possessions with Smart on the floor.

Recovering Joe Skeptic, but inching towards a relapse.

Unfortunately, you have to count the garbage time minutes.

The point of excluding garbage time minutes is not Celtics-related.  It’s just so you don’t get some guy who either looks amazing for two minutes at the end, and/or someone who gets their other numbers pulled down because they’re the 8th/9th man and get to play with scrubs sometimes.

Smart doesn’t play virtually any garbage time.  I bet his numbers are the same.

Disagree. Simply putting that caveat in tells me the numbers are different, otherwise, there is no reason for the caveat.

Let me try to explain it better.  Cleaning the Glass reports everyone's non-garbage time statistic as the primary values.  This way you don't have a guy like DeJon Jarreau, who's played one minute this year, when his team outscored the opponents 2-1, looking like the best player in the league because his Net rating is 100.  The caveat isn't because the poster is trying to pump up Smart -- it's because excluding garbage time is the standard way that stat is utilized.

I'm not letting a player whose scoring efficiency is 7% below league average 'be the man' and bench the lad who's 5% above league average. If anything I'd have the latter lead our starting unit while the former gets to play with the bench mob.

And the offence being run for that specific lineup has Jaylen in the corner because there a ton of on-ball players who can't space the floor there.

Another way of putting this is why would the star players rely on garbage time to boost their numbers. Smart gets so much flak for telling the truth.
