Idea, Ball for Fournier.

Ok, I think I have this figured out. We sign and trade Fournier to a team with cap space, NY say, and then we use the TEP that is crated to take Ball in a sign and trade from new Orleans. Does that work?

We are subject to the hard cap if we acquire a player in a sign-and-trade.  We’re about $7 million shy of that right now, so we would have to move a fair amount of salary to fit in what Ball thinks he will be getting.

So Smart would have to go?

I absolutely hate this idea.  Id much rather have Fournier then ball.

Id definitely rather have Smart and Fournier then Ball.

I feel Ball seems to be horribly overreacted by people on this board.

A 23 year old who averaged 15, 6, and 5 with 1.5 steals and shot 38% from three while standing 6 foot 6 and is a true point guard who can run any offense is a horrible overreaction to like?

Ball would be a very good fit with Tatum and Brown. Fournier is most likely gone and Smart is maybe gone next year so if you can turn them into a long term piece that fit with your best players then you do it.

Lonzo has zero playoff experience, is a career 56% FT shooter, and is going to cost 25% more than Smart while being a close comp to him. People are looking at Ball as a buy-low opportunity, but at $20M per, he’s going to have to improve to avoid being a negative asset.

We should be using available cap space on veteran role players that provide stability, are efficient, and prioritize contributing to a Championship.

I’m on the Fournier+1sts for Ingles bandwagon.

No option is perfect.

Ball is a true PG, a more than solid defender, still has remaining upside as he continues to fine tune the new mechanics on that ugly shot he had. At 6-6 he can guard 1 through 3, allowing the C's defense to switch and not be caught with glaring mismatches.

Is he perfect? No, he's not Luca. He's enough to improve team defense greatly, increase pace, and with Brown and Tatum as targets, his assists should greatly increase.

Fournier while playing well in the Olympics, did not overly impress in his short time with the Celtics. With Tatum and Brown in town he'll always be a 3rd option that brings little else to the team overall.
