Cue the Kyrie Irving press conference in which he will say “the whole world knows” that Boston is a city rife with misogyny and rampant sexual assault.

I was always curious exactly why Walker ended up in a lawsuit with Billups over the incident; seems peculiar. Anyone have more than speculation about that?

Walker was sued because the incident happened at his house, so even though he wasn’t personally involved he could be found liable.  He in turn sued Billups because Billups’ actions made Walker liable.  I don’t know how that suit was ultimately resolved — it was much less reported.

If they settled… doesn’t that mean that even if Billups was guilty, he can’t be charged for that crime anymore? Isn’t that the point of “settling”?

I don’t know if he’s guilty or not. I don’t know much details about the case and it seems like not much details were ever released to the public anyway. I recognize that it’s almost instinctual to take the victim’s side in a high tension situation like this so I’m consciously leaving my instinct to jump to conclusions at the door.

At the end of the day, it’s on the Blazers whether or not they want to hire someone who was accused of rape, whether he was guilty or not. I mean, to take an extreme hypothetical where Billups was found guilty and he did time and was recently released after 20 years in prison… I don’t think it’s unconstitutional for the Blazers to hire him. It’s their franchise and it’s their coaching choice. Whether we (as fans) choose to support the Blazers (merch, tickets, TV ratings, etc.) in light of this is our choice now.

No. The civil case was settled, that wouldn't impact criminal proceedings unless that was part of the agreement.

They can't make that agreement, though they could agree that she won't testify in a criminal suit (without it serving as a breach of the agreement).  Practically speaking that would almost certainly end any sort of prosecution in that type of case (i.e. the kind where there aren't witnesses), but neither Billups nor the woman has the technical ability to stop the prosecutor from charging the crime or bring a criminal action.

Glad we have Idoka....

NBA players were raping a lot of women back in those days...or maybe it's a money grab, who knows? we weren't there.

The injuries seem a bit extensive and the reports / disclosures pretty immediate for it to be a “money grab”, but I guess you never know.

Not to make light... but two people can consent. Maybe they are into a whole slew of things. Dominatrix.... The next day male or female could do a rape kit and pass it

Imo she should have seen this through in court and get justice (if truth). But money won over

I guess there are some women out there who like extremely rough, abusive triple-way sex.  But I'm not sure that those women go to police and get rape kits done.

we don't know these people

I'm not going to trust what these peoples plans are

Do you trust Chauncey, Mercer, Irvin, etc.?  They're the ones who have been proven to have lied to police, after all.

No I don't.

If it was proven that they lied...she should have definitely seen it through in court

why let them off the hook?
This kind of attitude is very far removed from what people who actually suffer these crimes. Many victims want to put it all past them. Or at least pursue justice quietly. This would have been a nationally covered story with her name and face plastered across the media. Hard to find peace with that happening, especially with how NBA fans would be
