Don't you think acquiring Horford gives the Celtics a better chance of getting Beal at the deadline? Wasn't Horford considering Washington when he signed with us the first time? Also, Washington would never have taken Kemba, but if Al plays well they could be interested in him. We know have a clearer path to acquiring Beal without giving up Jaylen.

Horford, Neismith and all the picks for Beal.

Far more likely next summer.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

We still don't know whether Beal extends with the Washington. We'll find out this summer.  Just keep in mind that if Beal comes, between him, Jaylen and Tatum, there's only one basketball. Same issues as with Walker, just that Beal's a better player.  And he'd be a rental without enough time to develop any kind of real chemistry playing with the Jays.

More likely in free agency than in a trade I imagine
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

Horford's deal is more tradable as it's smaller and also has the buyout option in the 2nd year, but that stands true for any potential deal with any team, not just Washington. If Washington does deal Beal to the Celtics and the Horford deal is involved, it won't be because they really want Horford. It'll primarily be because they are getting other assets as well. Horford as an actual on or off court contributor to a team does have some worth, but not when compared to the size of his contract. Unfortunately, he's more of a prisoner to the deal now as opposed to whatever actual contributions he makes to a team as a player. That is, until the last year of his deal and he becomes a potential buyout candidate and free to sign with any team for smaller money as a backup/depth option.

You could get Beal for nothing in the 2022 off season depending on how they handle FA this off season. Beal has an opt out. Horford is only guaranteed $14 million which you can stretch it over 3 years and that can get you near max salary. Of course still means not spending any money this year. People need to have long view. It's better to let the Jays mature a little more and develop guys this year then strike at FA for a new big three. Why wait? Because you need a supporting cast not just a big three to win.
