I think they are both Pippens and that’s the issue.

Brown won’t settle to be a Pippen…without a Pippen there is no Jordan. It’s either that or Tatum won’t assert himself as a Jordan, therefore without a Jordan, you have two Pippen.
Hmmm.....

So does that the team can still have a Jordan and a Pippen but with JB as Jordan because he won't settle being a Pippen and Tatum as Pippen because he can't assert himself like a Jordan?

Wait, hang on, no.

Why are we okay assuming "Brown won't settle to be a Pippen"?

Are there interviews I've missed or something?

There's certainly a lot of funny armchair psychology in these threads about who is the "alpha" on this team

You may be on to something…..one of them has to grab that Jordan role. Jaylen is kind of giving it up by default. If he can develop a money  midrange jumper he will be unstoppable slashing to the rim.

It was also funny armchair psychology when the dysfunction of the team was called out early on, and some refused to accept what was patently obvious. Fast forward and Danny is moving out of Boston. But yeah all is good in TDG.

It wouldn’t surprise me if Tatum played next year like this “Jordan role” everyone is talking about. Kemba has been moved (clearing a psychological way for him), he has those 50-point games under his belt, and he was snubbed for All-NBA. I think Tatum is destined for somewhere special and it seems a lot of guys in the NBA think so too.

That said, I think it’s unreasonable for us to expect JB to so readily accept a “Pippen” (aka 2ndary star) role. I mean, he’s a rising star in his own right so it wouldn’t surprise me if there’s going to be some envy there. JB could be the best player on other teams (much like Pip could’ve been too). Look at Shaq-Kobe. Kobe didn’t want to be the 2ndary star to Shaq, despite the championships. Not saying JB = Kobe but we can understand why a pretty darn good player would want his shot to lead his own team.

I’m sure JB has supreme confidence in his skills and there doesn’t need to be bad blood for him to want to forge his own path eventually.

... the dude had a heart attack at 60 years old bro. And it wasn't his first one.

He retired.

How does any of that have anything to do with JB being the second best player on the team.

Jeez.

Yeah, this was going to be my question. Is there some indication that Brown is unhappy as the second option? Tatum is clearly regarded as the team's #1 and has been these last two seasons and Brown seems totally fine getting better at his game and playing alongside Tatum.

I love them as a pair and don't see Brown's attitude as a problem in the least.

Pippen meaning #2 option, or Pippen meaning JB has to somehow morph his entire offensive skill-set?

Yes..Jaylen need to come to terms that in the clutch and down the stretch the numero Uno is Tatum.

This thread can only be a giant eye roll to great players who have been sharing their egos and talents with other egos and talents their entire basketball lives.

Call me when Jaylen steals the ball from Tatum in order to hoist that last second shot... ::)

Tatum will probably always lead in scoring. He is a bit of a gunner and that's his game. Brown has focused on efficiency. Brown is stronger in transition. Brown also seems to get the toughr defensive assignments. Both can handle playing as point forwards much in the style of Paul Pierce or more recently Gordon Hayward when he is on his game. Fournoir also plays this role. This will develope best if they are not saddled with a ball holding point guard. This is why we should let Smart take the starting role at PG. If Horford plays the 4 then we would be able to benefit from the rim protection skills of Rob Williams and Mo Barnes. Langford should get time at the PG too because he can handle the position defensively. Nesmith and Pritchard need to be the 3 pt specialists.

Brb making topic about how Tatum needs to accept that he has to put the ball, like, through, that net. The one with the ring on it. :')
