…so he decides to hire an older HC who is bound to retire within 2-3 years? Who comes to mind other than Pops and Coach K? Also, what about Phil Jackson deciding to commit 1-2 years to try to wash away the Knicks’ stench? He’s 75, so it’s a unique, final opportunity for him. Maybe Tatum/Brown will listen when Phil explains how it worked with Jordan/Pippen playing together, not taking turns?

This question is specific to a scenario where BS wants to come back to coaching the Celtics in 2-3 years (maybe Zarren takes over as GM then or maybe Brad becomes coach/GM). That may or may not be the case here, but think it’s worth considering in a separate thread given the candidates list of such a scenario looks quite different obviously.

I personally find it very, very hard to believe Brad Stevens will never coach again after age 44. I suspect this might be a move to show everyone the type of team Brad can build when he focuses all of his energy on that, followed by him returning to coaching the team he built when he can focus his energies solely on that.

Wyc specifically answered this question today during the press conference, saying the Boston Celtics are not run this way....he was pretty serious too.

Yep, and Brad made it sound like he could possibly do it someday right before Wyc made the comments. Let’s say Brad’s going to be GM for 2-3 years, Zarren takes over, and Brad goes back to being HC. If that’s the secret plan here, who does Brad hire to do the HC job 2-3 years max? What’s the list of extremely experienced coaches with a desire to only coach 2-3 years max?

On a related note, why pass up Zarren when you could have him as GM and retain Stevens as HC? Maybe because Stevens’ just needs a couple years as GM before coming back to coaching the Celtics with his own team.

Something tells me Brad made some brilliant roster suggestions over the years, Ainge went a different direction, and ownership knows how good it all could have been had Brad gotten his way. So give him a couple years to build the dynamo team and then get him back to coaching them.

I get the feeling that Danny and Brad were making deals behind Wyc's back for awhile....Wyc looked pretty p---ed when this question came up.

See, I took it as Wyc being p---ed about Danny’s joke, and wanting to reassure Brad that no way will he be coach/GM in 2021-2022…

Well, Brad might be gone in a couple of years and Sam Presti would look good as GM

I didn’t even want to mention it because I thought I was overreacting to Wyc’s response. But yes, he looked p---ed when he said “that’s not the way the Celtics are run”. Maybe Danny initially suggested that Brad be coach and president which Wyc and Pags thumbed down? Because he was pretty annoyed and adamant when he butted in and said that. On another note, man Danny looked real old during the press conference didn’t he? He could sure use a break from all the hassles of running a basketball team.

So much for the Celtics front office having an excellent/family-like relationship with one another. Wyc-Ainge-Stevens is slowly starting to become a wildfire.

Finally, some action in this team. And some much-needed changes.

I really don't see Wyc looking ticked off at all during that presser btw. Didn't read that the first time, and upon re-watching it, I still don't think there was any mal-intent or frustration or anything.

Q: When another Team has an offer for Brad to Coach somewhere else(and they will) do they send in a Hostage Negotiator? lol  IMO, this is a bad move by Wyc , he should have just fired Brad and moved Zarren over. Wyc is being cheap, everyone know it. This is not a good look on this Organization , especially Wyc, nor will it end well.  He's only 44 HELLO!!! Of course Brad will Coach again and it won't be with the Celtics.

In any case there's no way Wyc or any member of the Cs would ever show feelings of being ticked off or upset at the situation. They all know how to do the poker face.
