man, everybody has turned into me.  The team has been at a crossroads for several years and Ainge has done a terrible of job of picking a direction and going for it.  For years, he has tried to win now and build for the future and we can all see the result of that.  The team is a mess both on the court and financially.  There are no more high value assets on the roster or coming down the pipe (except for Tatum and Brown of course).  There is quite simply not a reasonable path to contention with this group and that isn't going to change.  Even if Tatum reaches top 3 status, the team will be more like the Bucks of the last few years (prior to Holiday) than a team that will be playing for NBA championships, because Ainge quite simply wasted the assets and has badly mismanaged the team since he basically made the Tatum trade.  You can't do the Irving trade and then not follow it up with a trade for Leonard. When it was apparent Irving was waffling, he should have been traded because Irving as a #1 was never good enough. You don't pass up Davis and Harden if you are trying to win, but you don't sign Walker if you are trying to build for the future.  Which is it Ainge, win now or win in the future.  By not picking a path, Ainge destroyed this team and put it into this cycle of mediocrity.

The odds of winning a championship dictate that this is always the most likely scenario for teams, and only a few franchises can be gathering spots for top players.

I see this as a series of failures by Ainge. Stevens could have done better, but he wouldn't have won anything with Ainge making so many errors.

That being said, I think this can all change just as quickly.  Looking back, I see we had several opportunities to do better. I see other teams successfully doing some of these things.

But Ainge needs to start being aggressive again, and the team needs to start making something of its opportunities.

The guys that are here need to evolve. We need this draft to work out. We need a trade to work out.

When is the last time a team won that wasn't because top Free Agents decided to conglomerate there or because of a lot of luck with injuries to the other team (Raptors)

The first Warriors title?

We talk about "all these moves teams make to add players", but how many have achieved more the the Celtics in the past few years?

So the question is how do you make the Celtics more attractive that players want to push to come here and join Tatum and Brown?

every team has free agents and/or trades though.  No team is entirely homegrown, including of course that Warriors team. That said the Raptors won the title with basically none of their top players being free agent acquisitions.  Several of the top teams this year were not built by free agency either: Philly, Milwaukee, Denver, Utah, Phoenix and even the Lakers and Clippers only added their main guy by free agency with the rest coming by trade.  Now sure the Nets landed Durant and Irving in free agency (along with Blake, Deandre), though they traded for Harden using homegrown talent and draft picks.  The Cavs big 3 they got all 3 ways: Lebron free agency, Love trade, Irving draft.  Players move around a lot more these days, but the Lebron Heat and the current Nets (who have yet to win) really are the only teams where 2 of the their top 3 players were free agent acquisitions.

We just need this Tatum back not the calm, too cool Tatum...

A winner is someone who recognizes his God-given talents, works his tail off to develop them into skills, and uses these skills to accomplish his goals.

Push yourself again and again. Don't give an inch until the final buzzer sounds.

That would've been nice if we had that win, but too bad it's nothing special at that point.
