Unfortunately, the Cs play soft on offense. Too many jump shots/threes so they are not going to get the benefit of the doubt when they do get fouled. To get calls, you need to be aggressive and this team simply isn’t aggressive consistently.
So that justifies Brown getting mugged with a no call?
No. But the refs stink. We all know that. My point is if the Cs offense was predicated on attacking the rim more often/consistently, they’d get more calls.
Here is the thing though. The Celtics score points in the paint at almost the mid way point for all teams. The percentage of their points scored in the paint also falls right in the middle of team stats.
But, the percentage of their points they derive from free throws, is one of the lowest in the league. They are also in the lowest third of teams when it comes to actual free throws attempted.
The Celtics take it inside about average but in doing so don't get to the free throw line at a similar rate.
The stats belie what your theory is here. The Celtics are almost exactly in the middle of three pointers attempted in the league. With so many offensive factors being in the middle of the pack of all teams, so should the free throw rate, but it's not. It's one of the worst in the league.
There is definitely something wrong there and as far as I am concerned it a bias against them from the refs. Is it because they are so young? Is it because refs haven't given them the respect accorded vet teams?
I don't know. But I think it very telling that you can watch JB and JT highlights every night post game and see at least 5 instances where one of the duo should have been at the line shooting free throws.
And it's more a JB issue than Tatum. Brown gets mugged at the rim every game without calls. That tech against Brown for complaining about a no call foul on him that should have been reviewed to see if it was a flagrant shot to the face, was pathetic and epitomizes how he has been treated by the refs this year.
