Lowry is an expiring, and given the way we’ve seen other guards adapt to ageing (namely Chris Paul) I doubt Lowry is just going to fade away. I don’t see anyone offering Lowry the max.
Expiring only makes it worse - means not only is he an old guy who will probably fall off a cliff in a year, he also would be potentially a 1 year rental...why would you want to give up Kemba and pics for a 1 year (half year) rental of a 34 year old PG?
And the CP3 comparison is hardly logical. CP3 is an elite talent - probably one of the greatest PG's to ever play the game. Pretty much a surefire hall of famer. Lowry is a good, but nowhere near CP3's level for their careers. Secondly, CP3 is around the same age as Lowry so nobody even knows yet if he will fall of a cliff (metaphorically speaking) himself.
How many star point guards under 6'2" can you think of over the past 10 years who still played at or near All-Star level beyond the age of 35?
His last 3 playoff runs have been very strong too. Ever since DeRozan (who would get absolutely shut down by athletic wing defenders and would then crash Toronto’s offence) Lowry has been a strong 2b player.
Out of the past four seasons he played well in 17/18, played OK in 19/20, and played dissapointingly in 16/17 and 18/19 (but got bailed out by Kawhi).
Lowry and Derozan were the two stars of the Raptors teams for years, and for years those teams underperformed despite being veyr deep and dominating the regular season. You can't pin all that on Derozan. Nobody stopped Lowry from stepping up in his place.
Lowry plays great positional defence, shoots well and often from 3, manages offences and knows what it takes to win more than anyone on our own team. I’d be fine with it. Would even be willing to overlook all the whining he does
Not denying that he's a capable defender. But he's also a fairly inefficient scorer, is inconsistent in the clutch, is old, and would e a huge risk as a potential 1 year rental.
