I think we should acquire a star with the TPE we have available. If it means we need to send salary out then do it.  We are 25th of 30 teams in salary.  We can afford to add more and if we want more than a 4th seed we should go for it.  Some of the names we are hearing are not difference makers.  Oladipo, Beal, Lowry, Siakam, Towns, etc.  Players like these can make the difference between a 4 seed and top 3.  You might have to send out Smart, Kemba, or Tristan plus draft choices.  Thing big.

You’re expecting better than Beal or Towns?  You’re going to be disappointed.

Is there any team in the league looking for pure salary relief these days? Or “blowing it up”? Because our picks and rookie contract players aren’t netting us a star player on their own. So I’d recommend folks reduce their hopes from the TPE unless something creative happens in a sign and trade this off-season.

I think he was saying that those were some of the names that would make a difference, but that some of the other names (not specified) we were hearing would not.

And, yeah, it sure would be nice to bring in KAT or Siakam, but I am not sure you are going to convince those teams to let those guys go. I guess Oladipo is probably the most realistic from the list above.

It should bring back a fairly solid player. It will not bring back an All-NBA talent like Beal or KAT
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

The only guy he listed who I don't want is Oladipo lol.

We should be able to get Vucevic, Collins, or Randle.  If we could trade Kemba for Randle and save some salary, we could get Vucevic with the TPE, and have room for a couple of ring chasers and still be under the tax for this year. Probably would cost us Thompson, 3 or 4 young players and 3 or 4 draft picks at a minimum to do both.

How so? Trades have to make sense for both teams. I feel like that gets lost in all of the trade talk around here. For instance, Randle is having an All-Star worthy season and is young enough to be a foundational piece for the Knicks. They just traded for D.Rose which shows they're interested in winning, so why would they move on from Randle? He's legitimately been their best player all season, but they're going to move him for Kemba... Why?

Unfortunately, the Celtics only have their own draft picks now, if I'm not mistaken. Since those picks will most likely be in the 20's, their first round picks don't hold much weight. And we can only package picks with the TPE. It would seem to me, Danny may have to make two separate deals with the same team. Use the TPE and picks on the higher salary. Then overpay with player talent for another player.

Vooooooooch! Gimme Vooch. Don’t care about trading Kemba, other moves, just use the TPE and whatever young player needed to facilitate and gimme Vooch. All day.

Kemba
Smart
Brown
Tatum
Vucevic

That’s a contender.

Absolutely.  The ways this TPE will be used.

1. Teams wanting to do a salary dump.  If the kings were bad or don't want to be the 8th seed in a stacked west then a guy like Harrison Barnes would fit this.  I have not looked at the rosters of the bottom teams who have long term contracts  they want to get rid of that don't fill a rebuild timeline.

2. 3 team deal.  If a vet like George Hill is moved as a part of a three team deal the C's can be a team to absorb salary while the other team sends an asset versus a player.

3. S&T next off season.  look at the FA list and see if there are any appealing players that is a UFA.  A team can get an asset to do a S&T versus losing their FA for nothing.

TonyDelk, if I'm reading you right above, you're agreeing with me, presuming you're saying the Kings ARE NOT in dump mode. They really have no reason to be.

Short of such a situation, folks should expect: a) a George Hill type (small salary role player) this season, or b) use in a SnT for a more dynamic player after this season.

A sign and trade is very unlikely, as it was hard cap us next year.
