This would be a two part trade.

1. Celtics trade Thompson, Teague and future 2nd for Kyle Anderson

2. Celtics use TPE and 2021 1st to trade for Gorgui Dieng

Celtics end up with Anderson, Gieng, and 11.3mill left over of the TPE

Memphis ends up with Thompson, 2021 1st, 17.2mill TPE, a future 2nd and Teague (likely buyout candidate, maybe Cs send $$)

I question the logic for Memphis but the deal does open up minutes/role for Justice Winslow who is set to return soon without taking minutes away from Bane. The addition of an additional 1st and a nice sized TPE is also valuable for a young up and coming team. The deal also saves them roughly 6 million this season.

For the Celtics Anderson fills the needs for a bigger forward. He isnt an amazing athlete but is extremely long and a high IQ player. He comes with glowing reviews from the Spurs who originally drafted him. This season he has really improved as a shooter and is also rebounding at a nice 7rb per game. On offense he really can play 1-5 as was evident when he play PG verse the Cs early in the season. This versatility makes him a nice compliment to the Js. Dieng is the perfect addition to Theis and Timelord. He is both a bigger body and a better shooter then Theis of R Will.

TP for your thinking of a trade but Anderson is boring. Not sure I could watch him without falling asleep. Dieng? Another snoozer.  Do they make us better? Dumping Teague is not a problem but I think I will take a hard pass on this. PLUS, I am not a TPE or cap expert but I didn't think you can use part of it for one player and keep the change for another.

TPEs can be used to acquire multiple players as long as those players' salaries all fit into the TPE.
