CelticElite,
In case you don’t know zerohedge is run by conspiracy theorists.
Their connection to Putin is troubling
one day when America has completely succumbed to communism, you'll know how badly you were on the wrong side of history. I'm sure you'd later swear you were one of the free market capitalists among all of us waiting in a bread line for our daily meal.
I do love the uniquely American attitude that caring for people in your society = communism
What makes me sad is that American spirit (and track record) of doing everything the bestest ever, doesn't extend to redistributing wealth from the top 100 billionaires.
My god the super rich have pulled the wool over so many people's eyes.
By redistribution you mean stealing, right? Because that's what you are suggesting.
Stealing their really hard-earned billions huh.
Not going to cry a tear for billionaires, which is a wealth status that shouldn't even exist. They're entirely exploitative, so yeah, steal their money.
And specifically what do you want to spend their money on? You do realize that if you tax someone enough, they just leave, right? There are plenty of countries that would welcome American billionaires and their businesses. Then what?
^This is exactly how socialism/communism fails, btw. It starts out peaceful, democratic. Eventually when reliance on the ultra wealthy ends because those people leave, the authoritarianism begins and people aren’t allowed to leave.
Maybe to fix the broken healthcare, education and justice systems in the US. Those are just off the top of my head, but there are many more things in America that fall below the standard it apparently holds itself to. For one of the pillars of advanced society it sure does resemble a 3rd world country.
Quite literally almost all other Western countries have it better in those regards than the US, but hey, at least the US has all those cool billionaires! American dream!
I must have missed where places like Australia, Scandinavia, Western Europe and New Zealand were authoritarian to the point of locking people in. Also haven't quite seen the complete and utter evacuation of businesses and personal wealth in those places either, despite what you think.
What I'm advocating for isn't even remotely communism or socialism, you're just trying to paint everything left of centre with that broad brush so it looks bad to everyone else. It's a classic tactic, but nonetheless invalid.
Do you actually believe that the healthcare and education in those countries are better than US? More accessible, sure, but are you planning on sending your kids to New Zealand’s colleges? How about if you’re dying would you want to go there for life saving treatment?
Next, The cool billionaires in America who create all the cool jobs and allow people to be self reliant is the reason our GDP is 23% of the global economy. They can and will leave. If they do, you’ll see actual poverty, not the kind we have with brand new phones and cars every year. Sure, healthcare and education may be free elsewhere, but it’s still expensive to live there. You may pay 0 for those but end up worse off than an American after all the high cost items, for lesser education/healthcare.
Have you ever been to any of those countries? Have you ever waited 2 months to get treatment? Have you ever had a hospital tell you to go home and come back if you get worse? You just have no idea how blessed you are to have been born here. There is literally a lottery system to get here. Again, ask people who immigrated here.
Yes, I do. I
am Australian, and I live in Australia. I have numerous American friends my age who have moved away to study elsewhere and have never looked back. None of the Americans I go to university with, work with or otherwise interact with regret leaving the US.
My own older brother did a semester abroad in the US (UCLA) and despite thinking it was a very interesting experience, has never wanted to go back for any other reason beyond holiday.
I've been to the US twice (NYC, Arizona, Washington DC, Florida, Nevada, Hawaii), and despite the breathtaking scenery I would never think to live there over Europe.
As an Australian I would much rather go here for healthcare and education, as it won't leave me with life-ruining debt. There are world-respected institutions like The University of Melbourne, Monash University, Australian National University, The University of Auckland, University of Sydney, just to name some. There are also elite specialisation universities for particular vocations.
The cost of living argument is completely offset by how much better workers are looked after and how much better our welfare systems are.
There's no point going back and forth because both of us are rigid in our views
