It’s about time. Four years too late.

So who do you guys think will be the next Sixers coach? I think Ty Lue would be good for them if they can land him. Knowing Elton Brand though, he might just triple down on the big man movement and go with Patrick Ewing.

Why would they have Elton make that call?

He's their GM, at least for now anyway

If I were them I'd go for Kenny Atkinson

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism

Kenny Atkinson absolutely deserves a job, but I am not sure that would be the best situation for him. Perhaps if they traded Embiid it could make a little more sense, but Atkinson seems like the kind of coach who can work with younger players and get them to reach their potential; Philly, as constituted, would probably implode with a hands-on coach like Kenny (even though it would probably be the best thing for them).

Anyway, I didn't hate Brown, but it was definitely time for both sides to move on.

That might be so, I just don't know if he's ever had a chance with star players. He was a good assistant on the Hawks in '12-'16, so he might be okay at it.

But you're right, he might be a bit much for their star players' mental makeup. If there's one thing Lue can do it's treat stars with kid gloves

Atkinson seems to be the hot name everyone is talking about for nearly every current or expected open head coach position.

I think he's a bit over-valued, but as it stands, I find it hard to believe he won't have his pick of job offers.

Well, this thread gives me a chance to talk about my Sixers feelings without keeping alive threads focused on Sixer fans and Sixer issues...(this is a newsworthy thread at least).

1.  I was anti-process and thought it was poor behavior by an NBA team.

2.  Why all the panic now?  Couple hefty contracts?  Big deal....it's not going to kill the Sixers...They just lost without their second best player...so what!!  They'll be fine.  They can Trade Embiid or Simmons for a major haul.  They can keep both and trade Horford to a vet team by offering draft picks...(Horford plus draft picks for Wiggins for example...though I don't like that one).

3.  Probably they wanted to fire Brown anyway.  Losing to Boston without Butler, Reddick or Simmons is not a Brett Brown's fault...but time for new blood I guess.

4.  Butler didn't want to stay...so losing Butler is not Brand's fault.  Reddick I don't know.

5.  Harris has too large a contract but is a very good player.  If they add shooters in the off season his value will go back up as he'll have more space to shoot, etc..

6.  I would trade Embiid for a star PG and something else plus picks.

PG star
Richardson
Harris
Simmons
Horford

I like Embiid for Adams and SGA but probably a no go.

Haven't looked at money but How about Embiid for Chris Paul and SGA and picks and get some cheaper centers to back up Horford...

Then Philly would have pick 21 and 25 this draft (plus a future pick).

Paul, Maxey/Terry/Kira Lewis (pick 21)
SGA, Richardson, Thybull
Harris, Richardson, Korkmaz
Simmons, pick 35 PF (Woodard, Reed) or Center( CareyJr., Stewart, Azubuike, etc..)
Horford, pick 25 Center Jalen Smith/Nnaji/Carey Jr.,Tillman, etc.

The Thunder then trade Steven Adams...start

Schroder
Dort
Bazley
Gallo
Embiid

plus what they get for Adams and 5 million draft picks from Westbrook and George trades.

anyway...my point is...it's not so desperate for Sixers...stop crying....stop worrying.....Yes, keep crying over Tatum...but otherwise don't cry....

Paid the price for failing to move them forward this year but Brand really should have gone as well, he put their disastrous team together. Their lack of flexibility is due in large part to the contracts he dished out. But hey if they want to stay with a failed front office, they'll get no complaints from me
Any odd typos are because I suck at typing on an iPhone :D

Firing Brett Brown means the FO likely thinks it’s the coaching that’s the problem. I’d be surprised to see significant player movement after this.

Agreed. It was either the FO firing Brown or the FO moving one of Simmons/Embiid. Since they (rightfully) fired Brown, I can see them trying to run it back under a new coach who actually knows what they are doing.

If then Embiid still underwhelms as a teammate (which wouldn't surprise me) then I can see them moving him or Simmons next year. a lot of pressure will be on this new coach.
