Davis is free to fire Paul at any time.

Don’t shoot the messenger.

Not to say NBA doesn’t have a problem here. It’s up to the smaller market teams to come up with better rules to protect their interests. Starts with winning. That usually solves most problems. The Spurs are Exhibit A.

It doesn’t seem fair that an org as screwed up and ill managed as the Lakers still end up with the best players through FA, Hollywood, etc.

I wouldn't have a problem with a cba rule limiting agents from commenting publicly on players not signed by that agent or commenting publicly on any team that doesn't have a player represented by the agent. Also, any comments about teams would need to be in the context of the player on that team.

For instance, Rich Paul would then be breaking cba rules by commenting about NY or Boston or LA when it comes to Davis. Paul could comment about Boston in the context of Marcus Morris or he could comment about the Lakers with anything having to do with Lebron, but could not comment about LA and Boston or NY about Davis.

Not sure what you can do about agents feeding false or misleading stories to their press contacts to drive a public narrative, but maybe my suggestion would help.

The only different it would really make is that it would be Rich Paul's mouthpieces in the press that would get the word out as opposed to Rich Paul himself. The information is probably still going to get out there. That said I still think it's a good idea. It keeps a little bit of a veil. If teams can't comment on players then agents shouldn't be able to either except in relation to the player they are repping and their current team.
Any odd typos are because I suck at typing on an iPhone :D

In an alternative universe :

I would like to see what would happen if the 28 franchises outside Lakers and Knicks send the top 10 superstars to those 2 teams. Let them sign 5 super max contracts each... colude against rich Paul clients and not sign them (let them all go to the lakers and Knicks) thus reducing their earning potential.
Each of the 28 teams will be getting 10s of millions from luxury tax redistribution from the other 2 teams. Half of them will make the playoffs and half of them will have a star like oladipo or Kemba that sells tickets and locals love..
this again is just a fantasy world but I can see certain teams refusing to sign Klutch klients:
Cleveland ; pelicans ; Celtics

Lebron has no ownership stake in Klutch.  Klutch is his agent.

I mean is Rich Paul's representation of Eric Bledsoe a problem.  He pretty quietly re-upped in the middle of the season in Milwaukee.  Should we not allow that?

Rich Paul is a player's agent.  He grew up with a similar background and relates to players.  He also comes from a different educational and work background which also allows him to relate better to the players than many of the traditional lawyer type agents.  And because of those things he does things differently, but he absolutely 100% of the time is doing what his clients want.  Many of them go to him for exactly the reason Davis did.  Davis wanted out of New Orleans and wanted a guy that would do whatever was required to get Davis where he wanted to go.

You mean like waiting for unrestricted free agency when he could have played out his contract and left on his on terms?

for less money and less years.  the NBA sewed that bed with their extensive salary limitations.

The NBA landscape is changing for the worst and it will ripple through the entire league if nothing is done about it. Players should be allowed to go where they wish when contractual obligations are met. But, this use of the media to steer players direction prior to contacts being fulfilled is garbage. Teams like New York and La have done nothing worthy of building a team. They shouldn't be given privilege or it becomes an unfair advantage to lower market teams. The commissioner should slap agents using media to guide players with tampering charges and suspend the players for a lengthy amount of time. No more releasing teams of preferred destination. It would be for the best of the league.  Nothing can be done about the media creating fake stories, but stopping planted stories can be controlled.

Peoples thought?  Perhaps, time for a collective bargaining change or owners shut down until this nonsense stops!!!

NBA with all the players wanting to live full time in CA is a problem , if your wanting super star players anywhere else.

I never remember it so bad as now

Its just pure luck a guy like Kawhi goes to Raptors .

Limitations in place because of Carmelo Anthony's efforts to get out of Denver.
