Warriors All-Star Kevin Durant has underwent surgery to repair a ruptured Achilles tendon.

TP. Anyone have a given timeline yet? Has to be out all of next year at least, right?

I'd think 9-12 months. Either way, most of next season for sure. He could potentially come back for the playoffs depending on where he ends up signing.

So it wasn't torn. It was ruptured. Wow

Welp, no KD next season.

Super unfortunate.

Next big question is whether he stays in Golden State during that time or if he signs a long term deal this summer.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
If a team does max him out, they know what they are getting themselves into. No way they let him come back and play at the end of next year. We literally just saw how that went...with Durant. An investment in Durant is an investment in the future.

Good luck on your recovery, KD!

Is there a difference when it comes to the Achilles? I thought “ruptured” ultimately meant a fully torn Achilles’ tendon.

Tendons rupture. Ligaments (ACL, MCL) tear.

I work in PT. It's possible. Wes Matthews came back in about 9 months, Rudy Gay came back in 10. Depends on the recovery.

I don't think this affects Kyrie's decision at all, as I don't think Kyrie was ever really seriously considering the Knicks and I don't think Durant was ever considering the Nets at all.  Before the KD injury, from my outsider's view of the tea leaves, I'd put Irving at 75% to Nets, 22% to stay, 2% to Lakers, 1% to Knicks, and I don't think KD's injury changes that at all.  Someone like Kemba Walker though has to be more strongly be considering to stay in Charlotte rather than join KD in NY (if that is where KD ends up).

How can you say this with a straight face? Literally everyone that covers the NBA has commented on the ripple effect this has on NBA free agency and often frequently mentioning Irving. For the better part of the year the hottest free agency rumor was those two suiting up together. It got as ridiculous as people filming them together in a ball way at the all star game. Now kd gets injured and will miss all of next year and you think it has no impact at all? Very strange man
Bulprett basically echoed my exact sentiment in his article yesterday.

Quote
At present, the Durant situation appears to be having no bearing on Irving. As reported here last month, a Golden State source said that Irving had definitely spoken to Durant about teaming up once they became free agents. Another source in that story said the problem was that Irving wanted Brooklyn, while Durant was leaning hard to the Knicks.

Now granted it was a repeat of an older sourced story, but that matches what I've been thinking all along i.e. that Irving is pretty set on going to Brooklyn and that Durant isn't, so Durant's injury had almost no bearing on Irving.
