This can only be positive. Let the speculation continue.

Shooters shoot.

He will be back this season. How can you start shooting in January and not even be a possibility that he will be back in May or April even? I wouldn’t be surprised if we start hearing chatter of a return late March early April

I also think he will be back before fultz

Love how Stevens keeps making Hayward part of the team by having him take that free throw to determine if practice drills were over. I am sure his teammates loved him for hitting that shot.

Yup, he's right on track with where I hoped he'd be.

Walking without boot in early Dec.

Walking around without brace and shooting in early Jan (2.5 months from surgery).

Ramp up PT by early Feb and seriously start working out/strengthening the ankle (3.5 months from surgery, re-injury unlikely).

Two months of that with no set backs, and there's no way he wouldn't be running drills and walking through practice by early April.

Full speed a couple weeks later (mid-April, when the 1st round starts), and if we're still not seeing any set backs, no reason he can't be cleared for contact at any point after that (best-case estimate).

I certainly don't think we need him until the 3rd and 4th series anyway, so mid to late May, or even June works (if you prefer a much more conservative estimate).

Those people who continue to say it's unlikely he'll be back 7 months removed from surgery are just doomsayers.  It would be a quick recovery, yes, but that's exactly what a recovery without set backs is.  And if he keeps progressing without pain or swelling, there's 0 reason to hold him out or slow his recovery.

The fact that he can do light shooting and move around without a brace 1/3 of the way through that recovery timeline is uplifting news.  Too bad there will be a lot of "no way he'll return this season" nonetheless.

Tell that to the Celtics because that's what they are saying. They have only said that he is on schedule to where he should be at this time. No one involved is saying he is ahead of schedule.

I still don't expect to see him this season.  Regular or post.

Nick you would have to admit there is no benefit to the Celtics saying he is ahead of schedule or speculating he may be back this season. As it stands now if he comes back it is a big surprise and everybody wins. The team, hayward etc. If they are start pumping out the stories now about how they think he will play and is ahead of schedule, it puts Hayward an a less favorable position if he doesn't feel he is ready, has a setback etc...

We have seen how this works before with Rose getting cleared to play on the Bulls and getting skewered when he wasn't ready. The 76ers have been attacked for this with Okafor, and to a lesser extent fultz. Bryan Colangelo bashed Bosh for not playing when he was ready on the raptors and it stays as a stain on his resume to this day. Heck we went through some gamesmanship with our own injuries regarding KG. Reading between the lines there is definitely a significant chance Hayward is playing 3 months from now, but it 100% in Celtics and Hayward's interests to not talk about that.

I’m sure he will be 100% by late May/early June.

But you can’t just thrust a player - regardless of his talent - 7 months removed from NBA basketball into an ECF.

He’d have to be back by the beginning of April imo to have any shot at playing in the playoffs. That’s about 5.5 months post-surgery. Certainly possible given his progress, but maybe not probable.

Should be very suspenseful for all of us to see how the next two months of his recovery go.

even if privately the celtics feel he will be ready this season, why put it out there? what if mentally hayward doesnt feel ready.

the smart thing to do is what they have been doing. Expect hayward wont be back, but leave open the possibility he will if he is ready and wants to.

theres no pressure on hayward that way.

good to hear.  no hitches in his recovery.....seems like they did all the procedures correctly the first time.

what if Hayward comes back with a bionic foot that turns him into another Michael Jordan? Remember MJ was sidelined his second year with a foot injury, and the rest is history.

I'll be surprised if he doesn't suit up against the Lakers next week.  #2018Finals #HiRobyn

What was the final report after surgery regarding the extent of soft tissue damage, ligaments, tendons, etc ? My understanding is that a broken bone is more reliable in healing than soft tissue and I know this was the biggest concern, but never heard what they finally found when they went in during surgery and took a look around.

I never read anything conclusive, but it was thought to be a "clean break."  It's probably very unlikely that there's not some degree of soft tissue damage based on the injury.  About 6 weeks ago, I had the same injury to my arm/wrist.  It was called a "clean break," but my arm is essentially all scar tissue that now needs to be broken down to get range of motion back.
