I wouldn't say this is a trap game, this will be a seriously difficult game. Suns are smoking right now.
That starting 5 looks nice from a futures power rankings perspective..
Must win gameThe next game is always "must win" ;)
Must win gameThe next game is always "must win" ;)
A win means this team is who we thought they were, not better.
A loss means they are not consistent enough (yet) to be who we thought they could be.

I'm not talking about win totals or seeding. A loss this afternoon would tell me this team is not consistent enough. I feel like they already had some losses to inferior teams. Heading towards the playoffs, that kind of stuff has to stop.Must win gameThe next game is always "must win" ;)

I disagree with your last statement. The consensus preseason projection around these parts was 53-55 regular season wins, and maybe the 2nd seed in the conference. We're on pace for both of those marks. Teams that have such seasons lose a few games a year to teams like Phoenix. For example, Phoenix this season has already beaten the Hawks, Spurs, and swept the Raptors.
Winning this game would be nice, because it would make achieving our regular season goals more likely, but I don't expect to take away much new information unless it's a blowout (15-point margin) in either direction.

I wouldn't say this is a dire must-win game, but this is the first game of a back to back, and then we play Clippers tomorrow night, then Warriors Wednesday night (ugh), and then Nuggets Friday. None of those three are easy opponents at all.
Also, if we want to show some consistency, we need to leave here with a win. Period.
Having a few great games and then losing to the Suns now isn't a good showing.
I said before the trip that going 3-2 on this WC trip would be great. So far, 1-0, and after tonight, 2-0 hopefully. Then as long as we can take a game against LAC or DEN at least, that's a 3-2 trip.
Even without KD, Warriors will be extremely tough to beat. But hey, we did it last year so who knows?
Knowing the C's though, they'll probably lose tonight but win against Golden State

We can't have nice things this year, apparently. Hopefully it's just a single day's rest (although I doubt it with AB.)
Avery Bradley says both hamstrings are sore, but plan was to play one game of this back to back all along. He'll play vs Clippers tomorrow.

Ill actually be able to get some work done after the game :DI really like these afternoon games.
Me TOO !
Sleep tonight .....ahhhhh yes
Uh oh. We're in trouble.
We lost our two best rebounders for tonight :P
Sup guys. Anybody watching the Celtics game in here?
Let's be honest, who here is really watching this knowing we'll win but hoping Jaylen has 20+ points and a double double LOL
I'm still salty that we didn't nab Chriss when we had the chance to. He would've been a great building block alongside Brown and Smart. I really like that kid and think he has a big future.

When Sacramento traded the 8th pick in the draft this past summer for two later first round picks, which we had.
I don't know if Danny ever had interest or a discussion about it with Vlade, but I think we had the assets to get it done with our two other picks in the first round. He would've ultimately been the ideal fit for us long-term at the 4.

Weren't the two picks they got better than the two picks we had?
Zeller dragging this team down.
Zeller missed an easy layup then tripped himself lol smh

13th and 28th compared to 16 and 23. They were definitely comparable, and Vlade picked Papa at 13 way before he was scheduled to be taken.

I've seen Chriss referred to as the "lowest BBIQ player I've ever seen" by several credible draft analysts.
Get Zeller off the court!
I'm pretty much done with KO..
Zeller might be having the worst performance in NBA history ...you live a sheltered life. poor bubba fouled out in 3 minutes, a record!!! ;D
We are witnessing history!
anyone think we win this gameyes, i do. despite playing like they have pianos tied to their backs the celtics still are in the lead.

Free MICKEY
good to see smart taking it to the basket and getting the foul. ;D
Man, this is probably KO's worst stretch in his career.i agree. most of these shots usually easy makes for him.
And I really, really hate this lineup. When Smart is your best scoring option on the floor, that's a problem. Granted, injuries have made that a necessity today.
There's a polite but persistent heckler who keeps calling Stevens "Coach" and requesting that the Celtics' big guys stay on the bench.

One good thing about a terrible shooting game - pads our rebounding stats. :P We've already got 5 O rebounds and 18 D rebounds!ha, ha...good optimistic statement jp. tp for you. ;D
Where is Jaylen and Thomas ?Brad has his work cut out for himself with AB and Horford out. Keeps subbing where he can.

Ullis is taking IT to school right now.
No shooters. IT and KO are cold. AB and Horford out. GIVE THE BALL THE JAYLEN.Brown is being ignored.
It seems they don't want to give the ball to Jaylen.
Isaiah, apart from being awful like the last two weeks, is making Ulis seem like Iverson.
Tyler Zeller makes me sick.
I'd better go to bed.

At work so I can't watch. Can anyone explain what's going on (or not going as, as seems to be the case) with Jaylen?celtics are playing without bradley and horford.
On the bright side, this should remind people how valuable Al's presence on this team is.
Further, Orlando is up 16 on Washington at the half, so it always could be worse.

celtics are playing without passion or execution.
celtics are playing without first removing their heads from their asses.
celtics are throwing up wide open shots, none are going down.
celtics are playing lazy offense and lazy defense.
celtics are only down by 7 to a crappy team. so all is not yet lost.
Is it just me, or is there basically a foul every time down the floor now? These refs really need to let them play.i was just thinking the same thing. and so many are cheap calls.
a backcourt of IT and brown isnt gonna do it defensively...
So far, the Suns don't look very good.

WHAT THE HELL IS KO DOING?! He has Smart on a Ullis switch and post-up and he decides to take a contested three when he's been hot garbage the last several weeks?! What a loser.
What a pass by Mickey
Anyone else hear that huge "defense" chant there? Awesome. So many C's fans in Suns' arena.

rozier tonight is doing what a bench player should do. i give him credit for that. consistency? it may come with more development. we shall see.The Rozier bashers on this forum might be quiet tonight
One good game out of ten doesn't really help his case that much. Zeller has occasional big games, too. ;)
The hate for Rozier is over the top group think. He's a 2nd year player. He's still developing .he's going to take time. The Rozier bashers on this forum might be quiet tonight

Kudos to Brad for putting in the kids. The starters look like they don't want to play today. It's hard to play when you are injured -- AB and Horford.

Rozier has 14 points, 3 rebounds on 5-7 shooting with no turnovers in 13 minutes and people on here still complain?
Let's hope Al is back with AB tomorrow.
Can you imagine what it will be like playing against Griffin and Jordan tomorrow? Look how much our bigs are struggling against the Suns' lackluster bigs.
refs are calling everything tonight. what crap.
That's a bad shot, IT. I don't think you can play IT, Rozier, and Green all at the same time.I know he is short handed but I think CBS is doing a lousy job tonight.
There's been 49 foul calls already in this game.that's why we watch the nba, right? to see the refs

Marcus and Jaylen!
Futures looks bright!Marcus and Jaylen!
You mean the future?
Smart with the steal and Brown with the 3!! Is there anything better to see as a C's fan?!When you have Marcus Smart and Isaiah Thomas you are never out of the game.
Orlando up 2 on Washington with 1:32 to go!
Williams is destroying usHe clearly fouled Jaylen on his putback but the refs suck.
Freaking Washington came back to beat Orlando. :(
So this game is extremely important to finish out.
No I know it's ridiculous. This has been a horribly officiated gameWilliams is destroying usHe clearly fouled Jaylen on his putback but the refs suck.
We need someone who can handle physicality in the post. Seriously this is just plain embarrassingKO, Zeller, Mickey, Jerebko.......smh

Great double D by Rozier and Smart on Booker and excellent strong rebound by Brown!
Booker was double-teamed but decided for a tough shot instead of passing to a wide open teammate.

I think the 37.6% FG and the complete lack of competitiveness for three quarters against an awful team are more to blame than the one or two breakdowns at the end.

I love Ball too.
IT is a great player who believes he is the only great player. He thought he could let the ball roll and throw up a full court shot. No. IT dug us into a whole early and wanted to take the glory in the end. No, not today IT. As much as he yells at his teammates he needs to swallow all of this one.
This team does not have the depth to sustain the loss of 2 starters. Currently the only worthy bench players are Smart and Brown, and sometimes Rozier. Everybody else on that bench are mediocre. I really wish DA had made a move at the deadline for a big. With Horford out, you can see there is no one else to play defense and protect the rim.
Is it just me or did immediately after that last basket IT look back at Crowder like it was his fault? It would confirm what I suspect of him as a teammate, so figure I'm not the best one to answer this question.

Perhaps, but it was a winnable game, and having even a situational big man who can play defense would have saved the game. Hell, Perk would be more valuable to this team than Jordan Mickey.

well i had to step out immediately after the game. tough as hell loss. but i agree with posters that the game should never have been that close to start with.
a question for you all - did scal or anyone ask CBS why he did not take a time out at the end?
i would have thought a set play would have been in order.

TP for the summary of what he said. That crap has gotta stop. The whole team is responsible for this idiotic loss, not any one individual. I know we wouldn't be where we are without IT the scorer, but sometimes he doesn't seem to be the leader we need.

Can kind of see it here barely at the bottom of screen.
IT basically confirmed this in his postgame interview. As soon as he was asked about the turnover, the first words to come out his mouth included Jae.

Figured he would. I have always pegged him as the type of guy who would do this. Was hoping I was wrong. Guess not.
The turn overi watched it bunch of times. IT should have known the suns would go after him. that turn over looks to be on him.

So IT throws JAE under the bus?!!!! $@#%$#%$#%#%$#%#!!!!where did you see this?
His interview now on CSNNE
What did he say?
He said he thought Jae would in ball the ball to him sooner and that he didn't know what he was thinking, but by time he got the ball Criss was right there to cause the turnover. He took no responsibility whatsoever.
TP for the summary of what he said. That crap has gotta stop. The whole team is responsible for this idiotic loss, not any one individual. I know we wouldn't be where we are without IT the scorer, but sometimes he doesn't seem to be the leader we need.
A true leader would have said this loss is on me. Period.

It p---ed me off to the point that all my set with this team with the way its constructed. IT is an awesome player but he doesn't appear to get the same treatment the other guys do. I can't respect that. I just want to see Smart and Jaylen get better, who in my mind should be getting just as many looks as IT now.

I didn't think it was Jaes fault either, I'd have to re-watch....but I did hear Jae actually saying that he passed it to him too late...although that may have him just taking the blame

Ridiculous. That was clearly IT's fault. You don't let the ball roll like that to avoid time coming off the clock when you're in traffic like that, let alone him missing the crucial free throw that would've won us the game anyways. If he wants to be a max contract star leader of this team, then these kind of "blame games" can't happen. KG and Pierce would've been the first to say "my bad" in this type of situation.
It's becoming more and more difficult for me to justify maxing IT out. Yes, he's an absolutely fantastic scorer, but he's not the leader he needs to be and doesn't play the right way way too often, along with being an absolutely atrocious defender, even if he does try on that side of the ball. Hopefully we can land someone like Fultz this summer and he looks ready to start and contribute from the get-go.
Even the IT apologists have to acknowledge that there's becoming more and more reasons to not max out IT long-term, from his suspect leadership abilities to his questionable decision-making to his atrocious defense.

I think it was the Atlanta or Cleveland game when IT was barking at Jaylen over a somewhat silly, but not overly costly defensive foul. IT, who last I checked was 88th/88 point guards in defensive rpm. I'm just totally over him. Plays for himself first, to win second, and his teammate's last. Would love to see Crowder grab him by the throat and ask him whose fault the turnover was.
https://twitter.com/ESPNForsberg/status/838561554106703872
Here's the actual full quote from IT. Clearly blames it on Crowder without taking any of the blame himself, let alone not mentioning his crucial missed free throw. This guy is not the leader we need.
Does anyone really think that Crowder, AB, Al, Smart, or Brown wouldn't readily accept blame for this loss if they were in IT's position? I can't see any of them passing off the blame like this.

Thank you for posting. Im even more p---ed because Coach Stephens isn't going to do anything about it.
Guys calm down he explicitly said "not saying it was his fault" and "we" regarding the turnover. Stop over reacting.
Don't get the hate against IT here. We complained for years we needed a star, got one for next to nothing, he becomes a 2 time All-Star, has an MVP caliber season, and people take every opportunity to take shots at him. I just don't get it.

Uh, no. You can't rant about how Jae didn't get it off to you in time and you not being sure what he was thinking, then casually say "but it's not his fault" as a qualifier. I can go off on a diatribe and criticize you incessantly then try to qualify that by saying "but not trying to criticize you," but that doesn't mean I'm actually not criticizing you. It just means that I'm trying to walk back something that I said.
That was CLEARLY a bad TO on IT, not Jae, and everyone in the basketball world is saying the same thing and kind of making fun of the fact that IT is saying it was Jae's fault/TO. As the leader of the team, he should've admitted his fault and moved on. It happens to everyone, even the best players, so it's not like it's a big deal.
But the fact that he passed blame onto Jae without mentioning his own fumble OR his missed game-winning free throw just shows that he's not leadership material.

jp, I am not talking about you. You have consistently criticized IT and brought up good arguments with stats to back your points. I don't agree with them but you only critique and question.Don't get the hate against IT here. Well, first, because he's got significant holes in his game that makes it extremely difficult for him to be the centerpiece of any team. For as good as he is on offense (MVP level), he's nearly as deficient on defense. We only outscore opponents by .9 points per 100 possessions when IT is on the floor, which is crazy given the offensive year he is having. Further, he has very suspect decision-making at times, especially lately, because he sometimes lacks trust of his teammates and tries to force too much.
Second, being a star and leader of a team entails more responsibility than a role player, which means that your errors and weaknesses will be given more attention and scrutiny. That's the price of admission. If IT wants all this star attention, then he has to take the extra responsibility that comes with it. This is the same thing that happens to all the stars across the league. IT is no different.
I've never understood why many on this blog feel that you cannot criticize IT because he's our "star" and best player. Do people not see the significant holes in his game? Why do people get chided when they criticize IT for legitimate reasons? We're not talking about Lebron James here. We're talking about a star that while he's probably a top-5 or so offensive player in the league, he's almost certainly a bottom 5 worst defender in the league, along with having questionable decision-making abilities.
As long as you give him the credit when it is due, I think it's more than fair to criticize his weak areas and question whether or not he's really worth maxing out and building our team around.
um no. If IT was blaming Crowder he obviouly would not have even said it in such a manner (He would be absolutely crucifying Crowder for a bad pass in such a moment). And I think two sentences about Jae does not qualify as a diatribe, so that pretty much makes your comparison null. I do think that IT should said something about himself instead of making it look like he's blaming others which could cause a misunderstanding but I don't think he was pushing everything on Jae. Well on to the next game and let's hope that IT does hold himself a bit more accountable next time. I wasn't saying that IT was right in this situation but I think crucifying him because of this is a bit overboard.Guys calm down he explicitly said "not saying it was his fault" and "we" regarding the turnover. Its those that people my post was directed at.

If you think its because of mainly IT4 this team is this good, you need to rewatch games... increase appreciation for the other members of this team
No player has the support network that IT4 has to make his offense fly.... He has Smart, AB doing his work on defense covering his man
He has Horford, KO , Amir, Jerebko setting incredible picks so he can have room to shoot, drive in without the presense of shot blockers
IT4 is an offensive weapon. He is a part of the success the team is having this season.... But he should trust the other players more and pass the ball ...increase team synergy... Not throw guys under the bus..

The hate for Rozier is over the top group think. He's a 2nd year player. He's still developing .he's going to take time. The Rozier bashers on this forum might be quiet tonight
One good game out of ten doesn't really help his case that much. Zeller has occasional big games, too. ;)
Eh, I think a lot of the hate is justified. It's not just second year player stuff with Rozier. People hate on him because of his style and lack of BBIQ, which aren't necessarily things that will change with him.
Granted, I also think many people had an exaggerated perception of how useful he'd be this year after his summer league and preseason, so I think that plays into it, too.
Rozier has 14 points, 3 rebounds on 5-7 shooting with no turnovers in 13 minutes and people on here still complain?
Who is complaining? I said he's having a good game, but that doesn't change the fact that he's been hot garbage for pretty much the entire season and is a big reason why our bench is so subpar.

You really want to go through this again. Didn't you say you would stop talking about Smart vs. Rozier? I mean in the summer you said Smart would be an all star. Still looks like Tony Allen at best...you say he's great at passing but he doesn't get many assists for a guy that has the ball in his hands as much. Seriously, chill out. Hopefully Rozier is good. Clearly you're not rooting for him. Pretty sad stuff.

Yeah no idea why someone as smart as Stevens is playing him. I mean you're clearly smarter. We'll see how rozier turns out

82 games, gonna have a couple like this. Overall we've been really good in close games.
Omg, do I really have to break it down for you? First, I barley even post in the game thread and I need to chill? Lol okay dude. Jpotter, all you do is whine. It's pretty sad stuff. We're not winning a ring this year, enjoy the ride. You nor I have any idea what Rozier will be. Stevens plays Rozier alot and that's awesome because it will help him develop. Like I said, it's sad you have nothing better to do but obsessively criticize players on this team when who knows if they will be on the team during our championship run.
Second, you're really going to throw backup pg stats at me? Who cares if he comes off the bench, lol. He plays 30 minutes a game...You also basically listed players that I really don't care much for. That includes Louis Williams who can't play any D. Good regular season player, but not a championship one.
Smart is a championship player. He is a great roleplayer. YOU SAID HE WOULD MAKE A JUMP. He didn't imo. If you do, that's great but you can't provide any evidence with the exception of the eye test. I'm sorry but that doesn't work in debates because I'm not using your obsessive Smart Fanatic Goggles. I can't see through your eyes.
I seriously can't wait to see your reaction in the playoffs. If you act like this during a regular season game, you'll probably have a stroke during the playoffs. Just remember, this team is about the future and not now. Take a breath. Go out for a walk. Hangout with your family. No reason to overreact during the games.
