Brady will probably win, because he's currently playing.  I pick Larry all the way, though.

I think it's crap that Brady beat Red by 65% / 35%.  Red brought this city 16 championships.  Same thing with Russell only getting 40% of the vote against Brady; 11 championships and being the most defensively dominant player in league history doesn't count for a lot, I guess.

Not crazy about the idea of choosing most beloved athlete.  A little like being asked to choose which of your children you love most.  Well not exactly like that, but you know what I mean.

Most likely recency bias.

Plus, how many people out there who witnessed the Red & Russell primes even know how to use the internet and vote?  All the youth is going to trend towards Brady and a childhood icon like Bird.

I just voted and everyone here should do the same. Tell your friends, too. Bird's the word!

It's a tough call. As a basketball fan I tend towards Bird over Brady. Both mean a lot to their respective franchises. I say Bird gets the edge because of how important he was for the sport as a whole, beyond Boston.

I pick Brady. Bird is part of a great winning tradition with the Celtics, there is NO winning history for The Patriots if not for Tom Brady.

Little admission:  I can't stand Tom Brady.  At all.

I loved the guy when he first stepped up and was all about team, humble and hungry.  Not only is the humility gone, but I have to put up with seeing his pretty boy face all over the place in fashion poses and stuff.  Frankly, I want to hit him, and I'm generally a peaceful person.

Bird is it, the ultimate sports competitor.  SI wants a cover?  No thanks, got to practice...

There's no way I vote for a guy who wears a Yankee hat. A SF Giants hat or an Oakland A's hat I could have understood. But not a Yankees hat. What next? A Montreal Canadians hat? A Lakers hat?

piece of cake.  I'm a C's fan and a Skins fan.  no contest here  ;D

Although looking at the voting through the rounds it seems based on legend and recency.

By all rights, I would have expected Bird vs Orr in the finals as probably to 2 biggest Boston icons in my life.

Tom Brady got married to a model... that's literally why you hate him.
