We get 15 roster spots, plus two two-way deals.

Guaranteed contracts:

1.  Kemba
2.  Tatum
3.  Brown
4.  Smart
5.  Langford
6.  G. Williams
7.  R. Williams
8.  Poirier
9.  Edwards

Non-guaranteed:

1. Theis
2. Green

Team option:

1. Ojeleye

Player option:

1. Kanter
2. Hayward

Two-way:

1. Tacko
2. Waters

Draft picks:

17th
27th
30th
46th

Poirier, Green, Ojeleye, and Wanamaker are probably all gone.

Tacko and Waters should get four year contracts.

Theis and Gordon will be back. Hopefully Kanter will stay.

If all of that happens, that leaves us two slots to fit in our first rounders and free agents.

How do you see it playing out?

Gotta keep Semi. He is about as good as a 9th/10th man as you can hope to have. Good defender with a three point shot.

Wannamaker is a keeper too. Solid backup guard.

Poirier should leave. He hasn't made the cut.
Tacko should go. He is a novelty act.

Those draft picks are a problem. The bench is already so young. Little room for more youth. I'd love to trade 2 of the 3 picks (two firsts, early 2nd).

Javonte Green is only a keeper if he can add a three point shot otherwise he is a victim of all those draft picks.

Theis is a keeper. Kanter can stay or be replaced with MLE.

Not sure there is much value in the MLE market otherwise. Romeo Langford will be expected to take a step forward next year. That should shore up the backup wing minutes. Hard to see the value in a backup guard with Smart taking so many of those minutes. They'll likely let lower contract guys duke it out for remaining playing time (like Wannamaker, C.Edwards, draft picks).

So I reckon the MLE is Kanter or some other replacement big man. Or no MLE at all. Keep cap flexibility for Hayward's & Tatum's impending contracts.

I guess with Wanamaker it would come down to a choice between him or Waters. Right now Wanamaker is clearly the better player, but Waters has an entire future around him while Brad would be 31. Who do those third point guard minutes go to? Personally, I think that Wana and Javonte find homes on other teams.

Conflicted on Tacko, right now if he was signed on the roster he would definitely be a very specific use type player. I doubt he would win any rotation minutes unless the situation called for a rim protector.

I think Theis stays for sure. He's a steal at $5m. As for Poirier I think he's gone. Kanter will probably stay.

I don't mind Ojeleye staying as long as it's for the right money. He could also be used as a tradeable contract.

I think Gordon stays. He'll have plenty of suitors but I think he knows he's got a good situation here in Boston. If he restructures his deal so he's no longer getting paid $30m a year it will probably shut up some of the detractors who think a max player should be scoring 25-30ppg.

I think Danny will consolidate some of those draft picks in a draft day deal.

My hope is Danny targets a cheap team that has a good young center for a consolidation trade.
Indiana makes most sense as they are approaching luxury tax territory. They have miles turner.
We send them Poitier plus Timelord plus the 3 first rounders
And get turner ... I hope he has something like that in the works ... worst case scenario other GMs just dare him make more draft choices and we have to make tough choices

I'd exercise Semi's option (7/1?)
I'd pencil in Waters.

Gordon's decision drives everything else.

Obviously, we never know when Danny will make a surprising move, or if anybody unexpected will earn a spot in late season or the playoffs, or where the picks land and who we draft (if the C's draft 3 centers, maybe they plan to part ways with Time Lord, 3 PG's would obviously hurt Edwards and Waters chances of returning) but this is how I see it:

Returning:

1. Kemba
2. Tatum
3. Brown
4. Smart
5. Langford
6. G. Williams
7. R. Williams
8. Theis - team option picked up
9. Ojeleye - kept
10. Hayward - either opts in or extends
11. Waters - given Wanamaker's spot

??. Kanter - opts out, will test market, maybe gets full mid-level for 1 year, but open to returning if Danny matches money

TW. Tacko - either offered another 2way or someone else gives him guaranteed minimum contract.

Out - Poirier, cut or traded away for a non-guaranteed contract or top-55 protected pick + cash, like how the C's got rid of Bird, Nader, Melo, etc.
Out - Edwards, same as Porier
Out - Green, cut
Out - Wanamaker, not re-signed, maybe gets a slightly better offer than 1 year min that Danny might again offer from another team.

If it plays out like this, the C's will have 3-4 spots open depending on what Kanter's market is, which leaves options with the draft picks. The C's can draft 4 guys (2nd rounder gets a TW) and see who sticks, or can try to consolidate 2-3 picks to move up a couple of spots, trade 1-2 firsts for a future first, draft-and-stash, etc.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

Very intriguing that Danny will have ~$8M in non-guaranteed contracts come draft day (Theis/Semi/Green).

I don't want to see Theis gone personally, but if you add Poirier in with those three you're at ~$10M in matchable salaries for a trade, definitely something on Danny's radar.

The non-guaranteed salary doesn’t mean as much anymore, as only guaranteed salary counts for matching purposes.

I’m surprised so many are on board for keeping Semi.  I think we can do better for the vet minimum.  I can see us picking up his option because he is so cheap and tradeable, but I’m really hoping that we can bring in some superior talent.

I think Tacko gets a four year development deal.  He’s shown more than just being a novelty.

Darn, didn't know this, TP.

Probably best, gave a quick look through basketballreference at players making $10-$12M for next season and, aside from young stars on rookie deals, I wasn't terribly impressed. Jusuf Nurkic would be nice but I don't think Portland is dying to get rid of him @ $12M per year, especially without seeing how he comes back from his injury.

Really hoping DA can consolidate draft picks, would rather have 1 powerball ticket instead of 4 scratchers.

The big factor that may force change is Hayward's contract. It is the team's major inflection point. This could go a lot of different ways. The next draft also will force one or more trades. We can't just play those out without wasting resources. Those two factors will drive most of the change in the team's roster.

If Hayward stays, we are probably just hunting for a complimentary rotation piece.

If he wants to go for a larger role or more money, almost anything might happen.

The rest of the decisions are fairly minor:

Langford and Waters - They are worth developing, so Wanamaker is probably out despite playing well, unless larger changes result in other minutes being available.

Robert Williams - will his health issues resolve?

Kanter - will he stay? He and the C's will likely decide they like each other.

Tatum and Brown - The team will need to allow them to continue to take over a larger share of the team's identity, and everyone else will have to fit that.

- due to Brown contact kicking in, GH likely picking up his player option and projected salary cap dropping... something will have to give

-  I think Kanter will sign elsewhere for more money.  He has already proven he is worth more than 5 million per season

-  Poirier and Edwards could be traded to alleviate the cap situation

-  Good chance Theis and Semi team options are picked up. I dont think Wannamaker returns for a minimal contract again

- Not sure what will happen on draft night.  Need to be mindful of the cap, so trade one or two 1st for futures picks or draft and stash.  But also if Kanter leaves etc.  need to fill roster

-  One thing for sure, looks like the Celts will have one of the highest team payroll next season and Wyc will need to pay tax. Something he has been able to avoid for nearly a decade

If GH is willing to restructure his contract for next season, drop his option and resign a 4 year 100 million dollars extension ... without needing to trade Smart for example

This can be done correct?

The reality is

I think next season is the last season you can keep the big 4

Otherwise with Tatum up for the max extension for 2021-2022...

Celts top 4(plus Smart) would stanglehold the team cap with barely any wiggle room to even be able to fill out the roster
