Doubt that's binding but they might be trying to tamp down concerns.

well, this thread suddenly became far less exciting, didn't it?  ;D
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Certainly not binding, but they try not to miss by much because doing so opens complaints from the players association.

Not totally. By expanding on keeevsnick's point, you both reminded me that I had forgotten about how the repeater tax worked (3 out of 4 years). For some reason, I was under the impression that by dropping below the tax this season, the clock would re-start.

This goes to fwf's other thread about Hayward, but if we are truly planning on keeping him beyond next year, I would think Danny would be doing everything in his power to get him signed to a longer term contract worth less per season than the $34M he is owed next season. I would think getting under the tax one more year would be pretty huge for this team moving forward since it all goes out the window in 2021-22 when Tatum's max extension kicks in. Also, it would be nice to be able to utilize the full MLE (and LLE) if possible.
