I can't get over how overrated Jaylen Brown is.

Marcus is sorta, but at least he's been here for so long and has paid his dues.

Brown is a good player, but his game still has weaknesses and he has some growing up to do.

He's also not as talented as Tatum or Hayward.

This may sound weird, but I think it is still too early to say whether or not he is over-rated.  His rookie year he got little PT. 2nd season, he took a big leap in minutes, productivity, 3 point shooting, capped off with a stellar 18 PPG average in the playoffs.  Last year started off poorly, but after being benched, showed great mental toughness and turned lemons into lemonade, including in playoffs.  His value will depend on the extent to which the Celtics employ a more uptempo style offense. His scoring average increases A LOT with transition buckets, where he is pretty incredible.

If we run an uptempo style offense this season, I expect to say Jaylen scoring average to climb to about 18 ppg.  If we end up with a lot of half court sets, he will remain in the 12-14 PPG range.

In terms of athletic physical talent he is way better than Tatum or Hayward.   He can jump higher, is faster.  Don't confuse skill level with athletic talent.

Brown's career is going to eclipse Sabonis' career by a landslide....you're welcome for the nature references.

No

I like Sabonis but Celts already got a player like him in Gwilliams

Celts need a different frontcourt player now.  With much more length and legit size

So many questions about how he’ll be used when Kemba, Tatum, and Hayward are all going to want shots and the ball in their hands.

I think he wants to grow him game, develop a handle that lets him create in half court sets. I don’t blame him; and I don’t think it’s  beyond him, though it may take a few years. I expect him to keep putting in work and to show up this fall with another skill or two. Be cool if he improved his finishing off a dribble handoff and kept honing his post jumper.

If I were going to trade Brown, it wouldn't be for Sabonis and a mid/late 1st.  Good wings are more valuable then good bigs and Brown is better than Sabonis.  I'd expect great interest in Brown if he were put on the market.

Seeing some of these contracts including Murray’s absurd contract, I’m worried about what Brown will get.  And we still don’t have a starting caliber big.  Brown for Sabonis is starting to sound pretty good.

I understand if you are against the trade, so am I. But Grant Williams is not like Sabonis at all. Sabonis is a legit big guy who plays the center position, Grant is far away from that. Not a good comparison. We don't have a player like Sabonis on the roster

Brown is a crazy number of times better than Sabonis.

It like someone suggested PG13 for Kanter trade, stating that PG is a burden for cap space more than Kanter is.
While true it has no anchorage in team building sanity.

I think we overrate Brown.  After three years in the league, he's still a 65% free throw shooter, can't dribble through traffic, and has yet to average 2 assists per game.

Lol, what? This hyperbole is especially funny because Sabonis is better than Kanter, while Brown is worse than PG by a massive amount. Brown has higher potential, but Sabonis is probably better right now and is at our most shallow position
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)

SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

I don't even know if Brown has higher potential.  I think he at best caps out as a Paul Pierce like career and player, while I think Sabonis can at best cap out as a Chris Webber like career and player.  In other words, pretty darn similar at their peak.  I do know that unlike Brown, Sabonis has continued to progress in all facets of the game in all 3 seasons and he out performed Brown last year in very similar roles for their teams.

As I've said many times, I'd trade Brown for Sabonis straight up as I do think that is just overall a better fit for the team with Sabonis playing a position of need and Brown being very redundant with Hayward, Tatum, and Smart.  Perhaps Brown ends up with a better career, but I can't see it so much better that I wouldn't make the trade to improve the team in the near term.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Sabonis is also eligible for a new deal next summer, so such a swap wouldn’t eliminate the huge contract problem.

Brown is getting the max next summer, and Sabonis is getting north of $20 million a year.

I think we underrate Brown if anything. People love to point at his stats this season, but it's hard to look like a world beater when your coach refuses to play you more than 20MPG in your hot streak to close out the season unless you absolutely set the court on fire, and even if you do refuses to draw up any plays for you in favour of a mercurial guard who's now left us, a forward coming off a broken ankle who frankly has been **** when we needed him the most, and an iso heavy youngster who's good but not great atm.

If we are talking about trading Brown for a big, I would rather target someone like JJJ or Markkanen.  Not sure what the interest level would be for Mem or Chi though.
