If the Nets decide the Kyrie situation isn't salvageable and Ben Simmons is a lost cause and decide to throw in the towel is there anyone on that team you want on the Celtics?

Should the Celtics make a run at Kevin Durant?

Is Nic Claxton as Timelord insurance a good idea?

Someone on this board has already floated going after Ben Simmons.

Anyone else?

Assuming they decided to blow it up, I think the question becomes, who would we be able to afford that would be a net gain for us?

Here's the salary cap situation for the Nets. They are currently at $194m, with a cap space of -$70m and a luxury tax bill of $100m. So if they did decide to blow it up they'd want to at least get under the luxury tax of $150m.

Maybe we can afford Claxton by packaging Gallo and Griffin, or maybe we use our $6.9m trade exception...I'm not sure how we get Simmons without sending a lot of salary back out in exchange. In any case I don't know if I want Simmons, he's been in the league 5 years and has not improved, in fact he's gotten worse. Everyone raves about his potential but at some point it becomes a question if that potential will ever be realized, especially if the player himself doesn't seem to have that drive to improve.

Claxton maybe.

Definitely definitely not Simmons. No trust in him for a deep playoff run, and which players would you give up?

I'd take Sharpe and Cam Thomas into the trade exceptions...

I like the Nic Claxton as Timelord insurance idea.
I like Claxton because of how much he bothers me whenever the Celtics have played Brooklyn. He seems to have good instincts, very athletic, and room to grow.

He makes $8.5 mil so I don't think Gallo alone can get it done. Gallo + Kornet or Vonleh would. Throw in a 2nd round pick. I don't know if they'd get a better offer from someone else but it doesn't seem like other teams are thirsty for center who can't shoot so that might get it done.

He can't be traded until January and I kind of feel bad about putting Gallo into a trade given how excited he seemed to be to be coming to Boston but Claxton is really the only guy on their roster I'd care about.

I like Claxton but seems if Nets were to rebuild young talented guys like Claxton you build around, don't trade. Why on earth would they trade him for a 2nd round pick and players worse and older than he?

What about Gallo and Pritchard for Claxton and Mills (TE)?

They would get a potential player in Pritchard and cut 6 million.   Could attach 2nd round picks because when everyone is healthy, Claxton isn't playing enough time to warrant a 1st round pick.

I would be all in on Claxton. He reminds me of Jarrett Allen before he got shipped to the Cavs.
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

Claxton is the only one that really interests me that would be financially feasible.  wouldn't mind Durant at all but the cost would be prohibitive.

If anyone doesn’t think Ben Simmons is on a terrible contract right now I really don’t know what to say. A team like the rockets could take a high risk flier on him but not a contender like us.
