Close enough to draft time to open this thing up for discussion/analysis/pick talk/etc.
I'll try to stay on top of the draft board as much as I can tonight (at least for the 1st round). Sometimes blog traffic gets pretty nuts around here (especially near Celtics picks) so it's not the easiest.
Enjoy tonight and remember we can all look back at this thread in a couple of years and look at how stupid some of us were! ;)
-
Ive put far too much energy into this draft for it to be disappointing. C'mon Danny!
-
Does anyone know when the picks start? I saw that it begins at 7 pm but I assume that is just the ESPN coverage and not the actual picks.
The only thing I know for sure about this draft night is that I will miss Bill Simmons. Other than that I have no idea what will happen.

I forgot Bill Simmons wont be there! Thats a hughe bummer :( No one else on the ESPN crew can match him comedicaly!

I'm not sure but if I remember correctly the picks from the draft last year started around 8 pm ;D!

Yeah. Can't wait until we draft RHJ at 16 and I can stop paying attention to the Celtics until next June..

going to be a wild ride after the third pick. I hope we don't have to hear Kenny and Barkley talk
Simmons will be missed

I think you're the only one tipping it back. Nobody else on here would post words like "intellectual faculties" without being drunk, high, or from another planet.

i hope this thread doesnt turn into a royal p---ing contest like so many other threads today.
geez, for something that is supposed to be fun some folks are really angry. ???
-
So, I asked this elsewhere but never got an answer:
I'm curious as to how trades regarding draft position work--specifically when they are announced. Say, for instance, hypothetically in dreamland, the Celtics trade 16,28,33 and 45 for the Knicks 4th pick. When would I, as a viewer, be made aware of said transaction? Would I only find out after the Knicks picked someone at 4? Or would I have to wait until the Celtics made their selection at 16? I wouldn't have to wait all the way to 45 to find out about the trade, will I?
Frankly, I just want to know when I can expect the news that we've traded ___X___ for ___higher pick___. If we get all the way through the first round and there's no news of a trade, does that mean a trade (up) isn't happening?
Draft Experts! Assist me!

Fair warning for anyone wanting to be surprised by the official announcements:
Twitter will have the picks 2-3 minutes before they actually happen, which means they'll show up here too.
Happy drafting folks!

For the record, I will be drinking some Baxter Brewing Company IPA once it's cold enough.

Fingers crossed for 7:30. on watchESPN there are separate links for the draft at 730 and 7 so Im hoping that means the pregame if you will is at 7 and the picks start rolling in at 730. I would think 745 is probably more realistic.

The trades are usually announced 10-15 minutes after the player is picked ;D!
Here is an example with Shabazz Napier from the draft last year! The trade was announced some minutes after he got drafted ;D;

Sometimes you know before the pick is even announced. You'll know on twitter pretty much immediately after. For example, someone will say, this is the Celtics pick at No 9..
-

Yep. IDK about a name but some undersized PF or dime-a-dozen wing isn't going to do it. Need a Mudiay or Russell or an exciting big like Porzingas, Turner, WCS..
-
As long as we pick Upshaw or Jonathan Holmes, in any position in the draft, I'd be happy. Anything else will be extra sundae.

Sounds like the Hornets would rather draft Kaminsky than trade that pick for Sullinger.
I can't disagree with them on that one.

An onscreen countdown indicates that the draft "starts" in 22 minutes. I'm not sure whether that means the first pick will come then or just the NBA self-congratulation.

Nobody wants fatty Sully..
But Kaminsky is going to bust. Guy is going to get torched defensively in the league
-

I can. Chances are high that Kaminsky doesn't become as good as Sully. Plenty of decent options at #16 as well.

Me too! Keeping my hope and excitement in check. Bracing for us to pick Oubre or Dekker at 16
-
I bet there will be no major trades..every year we hear that there will be a lot of trades and u may get minor players or 2nd round draft picks traded
-
I'm getting this is going to be like two years ago when I had to watch Olynyk videos over and over to convince myself that he'd be alright.....only this time substitute Dekker.

I want to see Ainge trade up with the Knicks and take Winslow.
-
I'm hoping for a new car ...
But I ll settle for a new pair of socks
After all ......we are at 16 ........it's what it is.
-
I miss Bill Simmons!
-
I feel like the Lakers are throwing smoke bombs out there :-\ Danny should definitely do his best to get Okafor if he drops to #3
-
I want to see Ainge trade up with the Knicks and take Winslow.
That's my new car grand prize too....
;)

Just like every year, watching the heads talk on mute is much more entertaining.

I'm getting ready to run around naked and get a shamrock tattoo. Or cry.

Myles Turner was not in the top 14 in chad ford's newest mock. It would be crazy if he fell to us!
Yeah, that would be fantastic. The middle of the round is where you take chances on boom-bust types.
-
Anyone else thinks that NBA free agent period should start before the NBA draft? I think Free Agency should start on july 1st then maybe July 20th, the draft...works well for the NFL
-
Please don't stand pat....

Dang I hate watching the draft from Europe. It's frickin 1:30 in the night and the draft hasn't even started yet :'(!!!

The Lakers have made their decision for the No. 2 pick in the draft, but won't reveal their choice.

I would be hella p---ed if Twolves select Porzingis at #1.
Just pick Karl-Anthony Towns and get it over with! I don't want no Lakers picking Towns if he's available at #2 lol.

I´m really rooting for Kristaps to go as high as possible!
Kaminsky sounds a little dumb btw.
-
At least 1-2 high ceiling guys will slip to 16. I have a good feeling about the draft and I'm having a really lucky day already. I'm seeing either a favorable trade or a steal at 16.

Guys, just start psyching yourselves up for Kelly Oubre or Bobby Portis or Hollis-Jefferson.
We're gonna get another a couple role players tonight, maybe a Euro stash, and a project.

And with the first pick in the NBA draft the Boston Celtics select....
God what I would pay to hear that.

Rich Gotham on TSH: Ainge still on the phones trying to move up but it takes two to tango. But if it doesn't happen we like players in our current range. Looking for BPA on the board. Wheels are turning.

It depends on the conditions of the trade. If the Celtics want the player who the Knicks would have taken anyways without a trade, the trade may be contingent upon a certain player being available at #16, so the trigger wouldn't be pulled until after #15.
Since the Knicks don't have a 2016 first-round pick, they can't make a deal until after they make a selection.
Once there is a trade agreed upon, it still has to go through appropriate procedures before it becomes official. The waiting time might be affected by how many other deals are in the queue and awaiting approval.
The news will be broken before beginning the process of making the trade official. If you pay attention to relevant online sources, you'll know within a pick or two of the trade being agreed upon. If you just watch TV, it will take longer because I think they might not acknowledge it until it is official.

Not the best public speaker, Adam Silver. But fair play to him. That Warriors piece was a nice idea. Showing how later picks can lead a team to a title. Not just the #1 picks.

yup. This isn't our draft. We opted out and made the playoffs. We have to sit this one out. But we will always have those 4 games against Bron to remember.
-
what is up with all the clock waste of time.
-
God I hate Reece Davis such a tool and annoying voice >:(
-
What is really the point of the NBA Draft broadcast now that Twitter exists?
Twitter makes me think that the draft could be over in roughly 45 minutes, if it weren't for all of the over the top production and commercials and Knicks fans booing.

Surpriiiiise!!!!

Come on Lakers, muddy the waters and take Russell.

Keep an eye on Boston and Charlotte. Strong rumbles out there about a potential pick swap. Hornets currently at No. 9, Celtics at No. 16
That sully deal might happen
I like Sully, I really do. But that is a great deal if we can grab Stanley Johnson.
-
Lakers no pick lol
-
Does the "chat" no longer work?

Why would Russell go over Okafor? That would be crazy
that's the rumor.

Is this thread spoiler free?
I doubt it.

Why would Russell go over Okafor? That would be crazy
The talking heads say that they believe they can get a quality big (Aldridge) through free agency.
-
Is this thread spoiler free?
Yes (as of now) ;D!
-
I wont say it

if we move up and draft WCS....what a mistake that'll be.
Get ready

Yes.

holy crap... that's insane.

And now it gets interesting...
Mike
Very... not only because Philly now has 3 franchise bigs... but because the Knicks are probably trading down or out.
-
oh crap okafor in play for c's......
-
Oh boy! We could get Okafor possibly!
At least one of Philly's bigs will now be available!
-
wow okafor falling
-
We get WCS after all...
-
Good for LAL. Glad they took a risk and passed on Okafor.
I think Okafor is only the 4th/5th best player in draft.
-
What happened if time expired?
Would move to next team on the clock. In theory.
-
Seeing the name Russell on the back of a Lakers jersey makes me want to vomit.
-
wow
-
lost to zona. Edited. Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline. you russell.
-
What happened if time expired?
Jalen Rose head explode. I'm calling Russell will be a bust
-
russell is a laker. i never did like him. ;D
Same here ....!
-
Wild guess: Okafor at #3, but Philly trades him to the Knicks for Mudiay and some extra assets.
-
Russell is a good pick for them. Honestly.
-
I hope Russell is a bust
-
What happened if time expired?
They wait. And wait some more. It has happened a few times in past years.
Seen teams milk it for another 1-2 minutes after time has expired.
-
LOL 76ers team needs: Identity

We get WCS after all...
Bingo
-
Russell/Bryant worst defensive backcourt in NBA now?
-
with russel in tow, rondo's chances of joining the lakers just plummeted. so much for all those predictions of rondo moving to lakerland.
-
russell is a laker. i never did like him. ;D
Same here ....!
I'm still going to be surprised if Russell is playing for the lakers on opening night. Wouldn't be shocked to see him traded down to the Knicks or something if Philly is dumb and takes Porzingus.

Gives them more time to negotiate a trade.

Philly likes Mudiay. I bet they get him before this is over. One of the bigs will be shipped out.

Very... not only because Philly now has 3 franchise bigs... but because the Knicks are probably trading down or out.
It's like a rich man's version of Denver having Javale McGee, Kosta Koufos, and Timofey Mozgov all under contract at the same time.
How'd that work out for them?
-
Anybody else have the Knicks taking Upshaw at #4?
Mike
-
wow. philly takes okafor? i did not see that coming.
I'd argue that anyone surprised by this hasn't been paying attention to how Hinkie operates.

@WojYahooNBA: For now, the Sixers plan to keep Okafor -- not trade him, league source tells Yahoo Sports.
No way. They'll trade him or Joel or Noel before the season. They have to. You can't properly groom three of those guys who play the same position. They'll look horrible and start losing value.

Not the same situation as it was in Denver. They are going to play Noel at PF and Okafor/Embiid at C.
-
Does the "chat" not work anymore? I keep getting java errors and since java completely blows, I'm not sure if it's me, or the chat not working anymore.

Terrible place for Okafor, Noel and Embiid. Not committed to any of them. Survival of the strongest. The others will be dumped / traded.
Not what you want for your young player while developing.

I don't think they rate any one of them high enough above the other to pick one -- to prioritize their development and trade others.
I think they'll let it play out and see who develops the best over next year or two. Then decide who they want.
-
knicks picked porzingis.

hahahahahaha! The reactions from the Knicks fans are CLASS!!!
-
4zingis
-
Interesting pick. Going for broke. Admirable pick.
Biggest risk, biggest upside of the top picks.

Go get Winslow from the Kings!
-
Little boy in New York jersey crying is awesome!!!!

Just stick to that Triangle, Phil! Mudiay will be laughing at you in a couple of years.

I know nothing about him, but I'm wondering: can someone please compare and contrast Porzingis with a young Andrea Bargnani? Because I got flashbacks from that highlights clip.
-
I'm blown away by...

Is it going to be another one of "those" drafts?
-
Love the idea of Porzingis at center in the Triangle offense. Great offense for developing players. Gives the center a lot of touches. Keeps them involved and develop as an all-round offensive player.
Needs to develop his passing.

Trades usually don't start until later in the lottery when picks start to diverge from predictions and players who teams were targeting with their own pick are no longer there.

I don't know how the Russell pick makes sense if the Lakers want Cousins. The Kings already have a couple guard prospects in McLemore or Stauskas. Maybe it makes sense if they send Russell to Denver, Denver sends Lawson and Faried to Sacramento and Sac sends COusins to La... Denver builds around Russell and Nurkic... but, that probably is irrelevant now that they supposedly stripped George Karl of his powers. The Kings pick will be interesting.
-
Magic?
Winslow or Mario
-
Get Tobias Harris this summer ::)!
-
PG: E.Payton
SG: Oladpio
SF: Hezonja
PF: A.Gordon
C: Vucevic
I would've gone with Winslow over Hezonja.
-
There's a woj bomb out there that got me astonished...
This. Major spoiler.
I just closed Woj for the night.
Mike
-
Man. I really wanted Hezonja.
-
Magic?
Winslow or Mario
hezonja
-
Little boy in New York jersey crying is awesome!!!!
I thought that was funny til I noticed he was recording it with his phone at the same time. Then I just wanted to give him a swirlie, phone first.
-
with kings taking willie cauley stein at 6, perhaps that makes sense... Russell and Randle will end up in Sacramento for Cousins. Kings build around Russell, McLemore, Stauskas, Randle and WCS
-
There's a woj bomb out there that got me astonished...
Yeah, my Facebook news feed tells me everything lol.
-
No more Woj for me. Didn't need to see that Kings pick.
If you're a slow typer, Woj lets you post your reactions in a more timely fashion so that you aren't relegated to throwing out a one-sentence hot take to get your word in before the next pick.
-
Woahhhhh. WCS to Sactown and Mudiay to the Nuggets.
Winslow is going to slip to at least #8. In range for the Celtics. This would be AMAZING.
-
The Kings have to take Mudiay.
-
Karl wants a run and gun offense... this is all making sense now.
Russell + Randle for Cousins
PG - Russell, SG - McLemore, SF - Stauskas, PF - Randle, C - WCS
NOt bad
-
The Kings have to take Mudiay.
They're taking WCS, which means Cousins is likely gone. Mudiay is going #7th, meaning Winslow is getting into reasonable trade range for the Celtics!
-
Surprised how far Winslow is falling. Danny!!!!
-
I shouldn't be surprised they took WCS but I am considering Mudiay was on the board.
no way Sac could seriously be considering Cousins and replacing him with this kid.
-
Mudiay sliding! I thought he was the 3rd best player. He's gonna be a load for someone.
Woah WCS to Sacramento?? Huh.
If the Celtics have indeed traded into the 9th pick, I am excited. There are 9 extremely good players in this draft.
-
Good tired of guys with bad hair on the celtics lol
-
Thats gotta be a pick to please Boogie
-
Don't like the WCS pick. Don't like Cousins + WCS together.
I'd rather see Cousins play with a true PF. Someone who can make his life easier on offense.
-
Id love to get Winslow.
-
Karl wants a run and gun offense... this is all making sense now.
Russell + Randle for Cousins
PG - Russell, SG - McLemore, SF - Stauskas, PF - Randle, C - WCS
NOt bad
And then Lakers will sign Rondo at PG and Love/Alrdige at PF...
Makes sense.
-
Johnson/Winslow still on play for the CHA pick. go get 'em Danny!
-
WCS picked way too high. I guess that Boogie trade is happening
-
stunned may be a strong term but I can't believe Mudiay is still on the board considering all the hype around the kid. really surprised both euros went so early too
-
Karl wants a run and gun offense... this is all making sense now.
Russell + Randle for Cousins
PG - Russell, SG - McLemore, SF - Stauskas, PF - Randle, C - WCS
NOt bad
Well, Cousins also wanted Stein himself... so who knows what this means. Could be seen as an appeasing move for Cousins.
-
Ranadive placating his star by picking the guy that Cousins wanted.
-
However, WCS would be a good replacement for Cousins at center for Sacramento.
Surprised to see Divac take a non-skilled big man.
-
They're taking WCS, which means Cousins is likely gone.
WCS has been linked to Sacramento long before the recent Cousins trade rumors. They plan on playing the two together. I don't love it, but that's seemingly the plan.
-
I feel that Danny is pulling of a trade now. GET WINSLOW DANNY!!!
-
Glad we didn't get Stein!!! and im a UK fan!!
-
Id love to get Winslow.
Trade Danny
Dump,Sully
-
WCS picked way too high. I guess that Boogie trade is happening
Everything I read said that Boogie wanted WCS....why would it mean a trade??
-
Johnson/Winslow still on play for the CHA pick. go get 'em Danny!

-
Lakers remain very confident in landing LaMarcus Aldridge after selecting D'Angelo Russell.
-
So much for the rumors of WCS injuries scaring teams off and him falling to late teens....
-
Johnson/Winslow still on play for the CHA pick. go get 'em Danny!
+ 1
Detroit already picked Johnson. Winslow is the dude at #9. Danny NEEDS to get aggressive for the #9.
-
WCS is the perfect type of defensive center for George Karl's defense. Loves bigs who are mobile who can switch, hedge, trap. Defensive quickness and range.
-
Karl wants a run and gun offense... this is all making sense now.
Russell + Randle for Cousins
PG - Russell, SG - McLemore, SF - Stauskas, PF - Randle, C - WCS
NOt bad
you're right, that's down right criminal undersell of Cousins.
-
Winslow is nearly possible!! Danny please get #9 ;D!
-
Mudiay is a phenomenal pickup for Denver. Denver very lucky to get him.
Mudiay and Nurkic is a nice base to build a new team.
-
Boston and Phoenix making strong plays for #9.
-
Woj just reported that the Hornets are negotiating a trade right now. This is BIG.
-
WCS picked way too high. I guess that Boogie trade is happening
didn't Cousins say he wanted them to draft WCS?
-
Pistons are going to screw this up
-
please trade up for winslow!!!!
-
I'm guessing Charlotte has to reevaluate because they didn't expect Winslow to be there at #9.
-

-
Johnson/Winslow still on play for the CHA pick. go get 'em Danny!

how are you getting this info? ESPN still has Detroit on the clock. is there another channel broadcasting?

Winslow must have been terrible in workouts to drop this far. I've seen multiple reports of lousy jump-shooting during workouts. He must have been really awful to scare teams off so badly.
-
WCS picked way too high. I guess that Boogie trade is happening
didn't Cousins say he wanted them to draft WCS?
/sarcasm
-
I like Stanley Johnson in Detroit. I think the Pistons have a big, strong athletic defensive minded base to build their team from.
PG: Reggie Jackson
SG: Kentavious Caldwell-Pope
SF: Stanley Johnson
PF:
C: Andre Drummond
-
Cant believe Winslow still available
-
Here we go
-
Woj still hasn't dropped the bomb at #9! Trade talks MUST be serious!!
-
Need to move up!
-
People claim that Winslow is falling due to being overrated... Lol...
Did he fall due to WCS being overrated?
-
I hope Winslow drops to Miami. I'd like to see them get a top talent.

Kaminksy #9 to Charlotte.

Heat just got Justise Winslow.

Well, if not move up can be had, i hope we don't overpay for a marginal move for a player we didn't really want. Turner is still there, as is Winslow.
-
Dang Danny!! There goes our chance of drafting a star :-\
-
Yup we're staying at 16
-
I'll be livid if we trade for this pick now. Kaminsky? What a waste.
-
God I hope we didn't just trade up for ****ing kaminsky
tells me there's no trade with Charlotte for the C's dependent on who's at 16.
-
Well, if not move up can be had, i hope we don't overpay for a marginal move for a player we didn't really want. Turner is still there, as is Winslow.
Heat took Winslow and Pacers are likely taking Turner.
-
Winslow must not have impressed to slide this far.
How much better of a player is Kaminsky compared to Olynyk?
-
Do not like the Kaminsky pick by Charlotte. Not convinced by him at PF. It'll be interesting to see how he does there. It'll be tough playing alongside a deficient defensive center like Big Al as well.
On the bright side, this frees up Winslow to go to Miami.
-
Winslow to Heat is a done deal and they're not trading it
-
I dont understand how KO + 16 wouldnt have gotten us Justice Winslow
-
That playoff run killed us :'(
-
Anti tankers? You mad bro? Winslow to MIA teaches you a lesson. Once again the only way to get a star in this league is the draft when you're in a undesirable place. Tank hard in 2016 and it will work out. How did beating the heat work out for the C's?
-
Bye, Bye Myles Turner...sigh...

I wonder how much Winslow can drop
Heat to take Turner i think

Ainge and his bs assets. What a wimp.

Yeah but we're a free agent destination now! Look at all the stars we just picked up today ::)

Well that's that. So glad we made the playoffs ::)
-
winslow to the Heat. never would have predicted that. can only hope these slides will result in turner falling to us at 16
-
I wanted to see discussions while not seeing spoilers, looks like Im gonna have to turn off CB as well. Turned off my twitter coz of woj, now some spoilers are making its way here.
-
I'd love to see Miami manage to trade Whiteside + Deng to get a good big man alongside Bosh.
-

If Winslow or Turner turn into players, and we end up with another 7th or 8th man with our pick at #16, it will have hopefully put a little perspective on "tanking" around here.
-
Bye, Bye Myles Turner...sigh...
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO... but I take Portis or Lyles
-
Blah turning off the tv goodnight
-
I dont understand how KO + 16 wouldnt have gotten us Justice Winslow
Overpay. Danny would never offer that.
-
welp, this draft is all down hill from here... both in terms of talent available and Boston's role in this. Looks like we'll take a role player and get geared up for free agency.
Hinkie holds all the cards... he'd be smart to hang onto the three phenom bigs and then just trade one of them for an all-star at a different position. If I'm Hinkie, I'm not trading any of those guys for a Boston package of middling picks and Smart.
-
Ainge and his bs assets. What a wimp.
Being able to trade up is generally contingent upon players like Winslow not falling.
-
Turner to Pacers. Haha. Did you anti tankers learn your lesson yet? I'll love watching Banks 2.0 throwing fresh passes to Sam Dekker. God Ainge needs to get canned. No guts!
-
What an atrocious draft so far. YUCK!!!
-
That playoff run killed us :'(

I'm with you it made me sick to read people here happy to be sub .500 and make the playoffs to get destroyed, I don't get it.
-
A lot of good prospects fell to #10.... Paul Pierce.
Danny should have got the 9th pick from Hornets :-\
-
Turner to Pacers. Haha. Did you anti tankers learn your lesson yet? I'll love watching Banks 2.0 throwing fresh passes to Sam Dekker. God Ainge needs to get canned. No guts!
Yeah, like that time he didn't trade the city's beloved stars for picks that no one could immediately see the value in!
Oh wait.

Give it a break! I think your last 19 post sums up your thoughts about tanking. You win, you're the greatest! Stand in front of the mirror and repeat "I am the greatest, I am the greatest...I know more than everyone else".....smh ::) ::)
-
A lot of good prospects fell to #10.... Paul Pierce.
Danny should have got the 9th pick from Hornets :-\
Who knows what the Hornets wanted? Evidently the asking price was too high for both the Celtics and Suns.
-
well, looks like the prizes are gone. looking at a SG or another PF. surprised another shooter or 2 hasn't gone yet
-
Yeah staying put :/
-
My prediction is on the right track unfortunately. Picking #28 is an awful spot to pick they should just give that pick away. Guaranteed contract with second round talent. :-X
-
Well, there goes the last prospect that I was excited about.
-
So what are we doing with Sullinger now that he deleted all mention of the Celtics off all his accounts?
-
There could still have been a trade with a team like the Kings for WCS that gets announced later. Happens every year. Let's just wait until the end of the night at least.
-
Looks like we will end up with Bobby Portis... What a bummer that we couldn't get Winslow :'(
-
Turner to Pacers. Haha. Did you anti tankers learn your lesson yet? I'll love watching Banks 2.0 throwing fresh passes to Sam Dekker. God Ainge needs to get canned. No guts!
Pro-tank fans had exactly the same amount of influence on the Celtics draft position as anti-tankers.
Absolutely none.
-
Well hopefully one of Booker or Oubre falls to 16....
-
I really hope we didn't trade for Kaminsky.
I like the big wings available around 16.
Give me Hunter, Oubre, Booker or Dekker.
Looney and Lyles are also really intersting big forwards.
-
This reminds me of the early 90s when everyone was frantically collecting comic books and there was this perceived value of all these holographic covers... and then people tried to sell the comicbooks and realized they were worthless. Danny's collected this stockpile of "assets"... and now he's learning that nobody wants them. They are only worth what someone will pay for them... and nobody wants them.
Free agency is our only hope.
-
Welp disappointing we didn't move up but i bet danny doesn't to overpay. well let's swing for the fences and draft Upshaw at 16. :D
-
This is going soooo slow! It's already 3 in the night here... #EuropeProblems
-
welp, this draft is all down hill from here... both in terms of talent available and Boston's role in this. Looks like we'll take a role player and get geared up for free agency.
I think getting the biggest addition to the roster via free agency has always been plan A
-
???This draft is a bustWinslow at 9 was a dream. 16 28 Sullinger. KO.
Wow. Haven't been this upset since the Celtics took Fab Melo.
Free Agency is only going to get worse.
Might as well deal all of our picks and get out of this draft.
Charlie Brown.
-
If Payne is there do we take him?
-
If Payne is there do we take him?
Yes. Smart is not a PG

Play for the sweep! The Celtics are less respected by the league than they would have been if they tanked. Now we are praying Portis or Dekker falls to us...awful

zero excitement about our draft picks right now.

Suns pick Booker.
One of the following will be available for the Celtics: RHJ, Portis, Oubre, Dekker, Hunter, Vaughn
-
This reminds me of the early 90s when everyone was frantically collecting comic books and there was this perceived value of all these holographic covers... and then people tried to sell the comicbooks and realized they were worthless. Danny's collected this stockpile of "assets"... and now he's learning that nobody wants them. They are only worth what someone will pay for them... and nobody wants them.
Free agency is our only hope.
There are some GMs whose opinion is worthless to me. I really don't care what the Sixers would or would not pay for something. They couldn't beat Kentucky until they drafted Okafor tonight.
-
I am so glad danny is stockpiling worthless picks
-

Yep. Danny's full of ****. Fans eat it up too.
No need to panic. Plenty of time to use our assets properly. No need to give them away to overpay if Ainge doesn't consider the players available good enough to trade up for. If he wanted to trade up, he had all the assets needed to do so.
-
If they pick Portis what an absolute waste of a pick
-
I am so glad danny is stockpiling worthless picks
It's sad. Welcome to the treadmill baby! Danny deserves to be fired for that playoff series. Cost us Winslow or potentially higher. Don't worry though Dekker Portis or Oubre will be there ton comfort us!!! Bahahaha

Patience my friend.
Those 3 upcoming Brooklyn picks are gold. No need to trade them now, unless a star were coming back.
-
Draft much full of excel player, until green men pick then much turds Mr. Ange choose among
-
I am so glad danny is stockpiling worthless picks
Lol. And true.
-
C's are going to have all this cap space and another team full of role players again next season.
The trade rumors are a joke. Nobody is going to make a trade.
-
dekker or anderson for c's? i say dekker
-
If they pick Portis what an absolute waste of a pick
SEC POTY, what a waste.
-
no trades so far :(
zero excitement about our draft picks right now.
I said it before the draft that there would be no trades...reporters just start all these talks to get attention...u may get 2nd round trades with Euro players...If we get Dekker, u will hear me holler NOOOOOO
-

To be fair Danny is the buyer here, not the seller. If he called the Hornets and asked what they wanted for the 9 pick and they said Marcus Smart it would have been perfectly legit for him to start laughing uncontrollably and say "No really though".

Yeah. People are going to be celebrating when the Celtics are in the playoffs but have high lottery picks every year.
-
Nothing more nauseating than listening to the pro-tanking brigade whining about not getting their binkie
-
Take Dekker. Please no portis
-

Yeah, Portis is pretty nasty. I'd be happy with him or Rashad Vaughn, who I think is better than Devin Booker.

I genuinely don't think the Brooklyn picks will be all that hot. 12-17 most likely. I'm not banking my franchise's future on the idea that a team has made the playoffs two years in a row is going to end up at the bottom.
-

Somehow I just know Larry Legend is thinking "hey, that's not a bad offer..."
-
Take Dekker. Please no portis
No Dekker!
-
If Payne is there do we take him?
Yes. Smart is not a PG
I figure Philly needs a PG we could hope and pray they would take one of ours and all our other picks for one of their bigs.
-
Come on, Oubre! Anyone else and I'm fairly upset with this draft.
-
So much p---ing and moaning about Danny and his lack of activity tonight but NOBODY knows what Danny offered (of didn't offer). At worst, the C's will end up making the picks they started the night with. Everyone needs to stop all the whining about the draft. Shut off your computer, turn off your TV and go cry yourself to sleep. :'(
-
So depressing. Don't know how anyone can argue we shouldn't have tanked.
-
Nothing more nauseating than listening to the pro-tanking brigade whining about not getting their binkie
Whining? Oh no we are gloating! We were right about this. The anti tank crowd needs to stop it's denial and accept that the only way to do this correct is a proper tank like Philadelphia
-
Let's put together Splash Bros lite at the 2/3 with Oubre/Young.
-
Come on, Oubre! Anyone else and I'm fairly upset with this draft.
It'll be him or Portis at this point

Thinking about it ;D
-
Getting excited!
I rank the next four:
Looney
Hunter
Oubre
Dekker
-
I'm so upset Payne was the last guy worth the 16th pick...
16 RHJ
28 Anderson
33 Cliff
45 Upshaw

No, we expect championships here. Nobody wants to be the Hawks.

There is no right or wrong (except Philly is wrong) just opinions but you're definitely whining
-
People are p---ed about picking 16. So losing a few more games and pick 12-15 would have made everyone happy?
-
I'm really hoping oubre. Id love to somehow send out a package around Sullinger to Indy for lyles. I really wanted him.
-

Yes
-

No. People are mad because the C's couldn't get into the top 10.
-
Oubre to washington at #15
-
dekker please
-
PLEASE DONT PICK DEKKER
-
OMG
My nitemare
Please not Dekker :(
-
Is Portis a sure thing or could Danny be considering Hunter?
NO DEKKER!!!
-
Take Looney...
-
Portis wanted by Scal.
-
Please not dekker I will smash my tv if that happens >:(
-
Please not dekker I will smash my tv if that happens >:(
LoL TP !
-
Dekker please.
-
Just trade out.
-
I want dekkker
-
yaaaaawwnn...
So sick of hearing about all our great "assets". It's a hill of beans.
-
Terry Rozier?????
-
Terry Rozier...what an awful pick
-
Who the heck is
JaJuan Johnson, I mean Terry Rozier?
-
Oh no...no dekker
-
First reaction... I don't get it
-
WHAT???
-
who?
-
Hahahah ha lol omg!
-
At least it's not Dekker
-
Could have traded down for him - no?
-
Ugh. I hope it means we already traded Bradley or Smart
-
whatever.
The only thing that can salvage this draft at this point is trading for Anthony Bennett. Bennett or bust. Lulz.
-
We needed another guard
A small guard
Who
Can't shoot
-
No. No, no, no.
This can't be happening.
Who the bloody heck is Rozier? I haven't even heard of this guy!
And a point guard?!? This is terrible.
-
Setting up for a Smart trade?? ???
-
Why?
Why did we draft a point guard?!!!?
-
Love the kid, but would much rather have had him at 28. IT, Smart, AB, now Rozier. 3 really good defenders could this mean one of Smart, IT, Ab is gone?
I remember watching Louisville and thinking to myself wow that kids a stud. I didnt even know he was such a legit defender. I think we could do worse just dont understand why so early.
-
Could have traded down for him - no?
Got to figure it's either a pick for another team or AB is being traded. Can't see the reason for keeping him without a follow up move
-
Edited. Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline. I sat around for this? Another midget SG this is a terrible pick. I hate this stock piling of midget gunners. >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(
-
This has to mean a trade is in the works, right?
Bradley
Smart
Thomas
Rozier
Seems like 4 guys who don't really compliment each other really well.
-
Everyone owes Labrrd an apology. Dude was spot on.
-
I don't get it. Unless he is traded, we basically took a flyer on an undersized combo guard who can't shoot. mini-smart. great.
I am shocked. Our biggest need was either a wing scorer or a def big that could stop the bleeding inside. So we draft a 6'-1" combo guard who can't shoot. Smh...
-
Is that rozier talking about bow ties?
-
can we draft the bow tie kid at #28? We need another undersized guard.
-
This has to mean a trade is in the works, right?
Bradley
Smart
Thomas
Rozier

5
Don't forget midget #5 .....Pressey
-
Rozier wasn't even on the board....jjj, melo, now rozier, what the heck is danny looking at!?
-
I can't believe I came to the Barclays Center for this...hopefully somebody we actually want drops to 28.
I am really hoping this was a selection for another team. How is Danny going to explain this one?
-
Cant wait to hear Ainge's explanation for this pick.
-
God awful. Unmitigated disaster.
Well at least I can forget about the Celtics until next June..
-
Boston is building the greatest team of 6-10 rotation guys ever.
-
Wyc: Tried really hard to get into top 10.
The playoff run destroyed this draft for the C's. It's not over for the C's making use of their assets and cap space (obviously), but a golden chance for a serious prospect in this draft gone in favor of a 1st round sweep.
Meanwhile, Lakers pick up a player with star potential.
-
Wow ....and I thought the Mello and JJJ would be our biggest busts .....
Danny shooting for the epic bust of all time ...smh
Wow ....wasted pick on a miget guard .....OMG ......
I'm losing faith .....real fast
-
Everyone owes Labrrd an apology. Dude was spot on.
I was dead wrong about Okafor. I thought he was definitely going 2nd... but I have a feeling this the RUssell pick sets up a Russell + Randle for Cousins trade... That would give the Kings a run-and-gun offense built around PG - Russell, SG - McLemore, SF - Stauskas, PF - Randle and C - WCS...
Then Lakers sign Rondo and Love to fill out the roster.
Philly situation will be interesting. I could see HInkie hanging onto all 3 and waiting for someone to give him a godfather offer for one of the franchise bigs. And by "Godfather offer" i don't mean a bunch of middling draft picks... I mean something built around a star at a different position. Like they could probably move one of those guys for a guy like DeMarr Derozan pretty easily, right? Smarter move than trading it for a pu-pu-platter of weak draft picks.
-
Y'all read twitter too much. Relax.
-
Could have traded down for him - no?
Got to figure it's either a pick for another team or AB is being traded. Can't see the reason for keeping him without a follow up move
No, I think this is Ainge was not able to trade up to #3, #6 or #9 for players that were falling (or at least wasnt able to trade up with a package he deemed reasonable), so he selected the player he viewed as BPA. Time will tell. But not what I was expecting, that's for sure...
-

I'm guessing that Ainge plans to address those positions via free agency.
Maybe the board's resident Bradley haters can convince themselves this means Bradley will be traded.
-
I can't believe we made the worse pick in the draft I'm so angry right now. A player we have no need, use for. The NBA is getting smaller but it's not going to be a 6'5" and under league. WOW this is as bad as Juwaun Johnson I'm sure he will rip up the D-league ::) ::) >:(
-
Front office is all talk. Backcourt replete with midgets.
-
can we draft the bow tie kid at #28? We need another undersized guard.
First time I have ever agreed with you.
A bewildering pick at best.
-
Must be some VERY advanced analytics on him. Also when you have so many picks like we do guess it doesn't matter where you draft whom.
-
Front office is all talk. Backcourt replete with midgets.
The frontcourt is pretty small too
-
Maybe we'll take another pg that can't shoot at 28. I'm livid. What do they have against guys that can shoot block shots or rebound?
-
I like the pick.
Rozier is an insane athlete with a super high ceiling on the offensive end, whilst also being a great defender.
Danny realizes he needs to swing big by skipping these role player types like Portis, Dekker etc...just sucks he couldn't get Winslow.
This guy wont help us win games next year and we'll stink...without Bass and an Evan Turner trade, we should pick top 8 next year.
-
I liked Portis, I did like Rozier too but thought he might still be there at #28. If you watched the draft combine games, he was pretty good. He stood out, along with Mickey.
-
Im actually rooting for Roziers career to be a disaster. Danny needs to know what he did wrong.

Let's wait until the end of the season until we jump into conclusions
-
Ugggggggghhhhhhh can someone trade anyone to us for rozier so I can get this disbelief out of my head >:(
-
Ainge is in love with drafting guards.
This pick makes no sense to me.
We have plenty of undersized guards who can't shoot.
-
I like the pick.

For what its worth, nbadraft.net had an article a couple days ago listing Rozier as a "top 5 underrated" player.
http://www.nbadraft.net/nba-draft-top-5-underrated-prospects
Also, instant analysis by the same website called this a "tremendous pick" by the Celtics. Again, take it for what its worth...
-
Well do not be surprised if Ainge is out of a job next year. Can not believe this is happening. Promises to make sparks then does this Edited. Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.. I don't think he even had a plan if he didn't make it into the top 10. He just expected it with all his middling first round picks. After not making it into the top 10 he was shell shocked and passed up on the BPA at 16 of Portis and Dekker. He traded for Thomas which contributed to us making the playoffs and missing on talent and taking away minutes from Smart. You want to know Ainge's plan? He has no Edited. Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.ing plan. He's just running around hoping that something will end up on his doorstep. He's alienated all the players on his roster and made them believe that they weren't going to get traded then doesn't do it and makes no improvements to make the roster better as far as trades and draft picks. He is terrible at drafting. His son readily admits that Smart had a god awful workout with the Celtics last year, but they still took him over Randle. He openly questions Sullinger, but instead of addressing in the draft and taking Randle he just complains about it when it's all said in done. He makes Avery Bradley untouchable?? Avery Bradley?? This man should not be a GM. He brought us a championship and it's time to move on to the future.

Bill Simmons
1h1 hour ago
Bill Simmons @BillSimmons
I take back everything I said about trying for the 8th playoff spot over getting a top-10 pick. Winslow is a stud. Miami does it again.
Lol... yeh
-
Wow. This is just shockingly disheartening.
Unless this is just part of a bigger plan Danny has.
But if not ... wowzah. Terrible.
It's amazing how many non-point-guard point guards we have. Guys who can't dribble, can't score. Jeepers.
So, I'm guessing that Danny will use the No. 28 pick to grab another undersized power forward? Because apparently that's all the team likes—small PFs, and "combo guards" who can't score or dribble?
-
You take a guy that you can get at 28...you take another small guard...Pressey, Bradley, Rozier, Smart, Thomas
You have no wings that can shoot...
Tired of hearing about how smart Danny Ainge is...this falls in like with Giddens, Johnson, Fab Melo...dumb pick.
-
Ya'll think we could get Nik Stauskas or Anthony Bennett for this Hozier kid? I don't...
Lol
-
I liked Portis, I did like Rozier too but thought he might still be there at #28. If you watched the draft combine games, he was pretty good. He stood out, along with Mickey.
My suspicion is that he wasn't going to be there at 28, that he may have had a draft promise from a team like the Bulls or Spurs, and that Ainge couldn't find a deal to move back a few spots, so he bit the bullet and went ahead and drafted the player that he liked the most.
-
Looks like out best pick this year is James Young.
I'll say this Danny has balls he's going to look like a genius or run out of town by an angry mob.
-
Ya'll think we could get Philly to take on the Wallace contract if we give them Hozier? I have my doubts... PHilly prob wants to use their cap space to fill in the roster around the 3 phenom towers.
-
Im actually rooting for Roziers career to be a disaster. Danny needs to know what he did wrong.
I'm rooting for an outcome that makes this thread's biggest crybabies look like losers.
-
I love draft night! Just reading all of the comments of despair and whining put a huge smile on my face.
Don't know much about Rozier. But he sounds just like Avery Bradley coming out of college. Maybe he's Avery Bradley's replacement. Who knows?!?!
-

Who would you have taken at that position?
I like the balls it took to take this guy. Have you seen Rozier play?
He's swinging for the fences with pick#16
You may not agree with my top 8 pick in 2016 sentiment, but you don't know what you're talking about to call Terry Rozier a 'horrid pick' with #16. It's a great pick. High risk, very high reward.
Think of a point guard version of Monta Ellis (slightly smaller, but stronger and even more athletic), but who plays NBA caliber defense and plays hard on every play.
-
(http://i.ytimg.com/vi/_ttXhBgnQns/maxresdefault.jpg)
fireworks...
-
I am still waiting for the Celtics to actually do something other than waste and collect these picks and cap space. Right now, this team is full of undersized role players. Rozier...I hope he never plays a minute in Boston.
-
6'2 , 6'8 wingspan and 38 max vertical.
Looking at how the draft is unfolding , looks like good pgs are a premium.
Rozier has a higher upside than grant, wright.
-
Ya'll think we could get Philly to take on the Wallace contract if we give them Hozier? I have my doubts... PHilly prob wants to use their cap space to fill in the roster around the 3 phenom towers.
Noel. Okeafor. Who's the 3rd one?
-
When you consider it within context this is my vote for the worst pick Danny ever made. Fab at least was a 7 foot rim protector as was JuJuan Johnson on draft night.
This explains why Ainge was trying so hard to move up and why it didn't happen
The worst part is going to be the moaning and wailing and gnashing of teeth that we made the playoffs because we could have had the 9th pick (whoop de doo.) But Ainge probably would have fudged up that pick too. Kaminsky isn't making this team a championship team folks.
-
I guess Pressey time as a Celtic has come to an end. Good kid
-

You know. The one that hasn't made it to the court yet

I can't fathom how he would think this kid was BPA at any point before the mid-20's. someone's got to be on the way out in the backcourt before the season starts
-
Wow!!! My mouth flew open..could got him with 28th...Does Ainge know that u can draft players over 6-4???
-
Can't wait for the stash the Euro trash pick at 28. What an epic failure this has been.
What is the point in having 4 or 5 guys that are the same? This bum, bradley, smart are the same players...
What about addressing the wing?
-
One thing I'm sure of after seeing us pick Rozier, there aint no trade involving 16 that has yet to be announced. That guy was not chosen for any other team, he's all Danny's.
-
Think of a point guard version of Monta Ellis (slightly smaller, but stronger and even more athletic), but who plays NBA caliber defense and plays hard on every play.
So, think of a player I'd rather have instead of Monta Ellis?
-
Cant believe Portis is still out there after 21 picks
-
People are p---ed about picking 16. So losing a few more games and pick 12-15 would have made everyone happy?
Yes
What kind of real fan picks the name tank city?
Says all it needs to say about you.

But we could have had him at #28. He's a borderline second rounder.
You want a high risk high reward player? We were probably better off taking Upshaw at #16. He's also high risk, big reward, but at least he fills a need. Rozier is coming in on a log jam. If we do trade any of our guards, he has to be really impressive to take time away from Smart, Bradley and Thomas. If you think he can be much more special than those three, then please convince us why, because he's not getting time on the court with those three in the court, which makes this pick a total waste.
-
Well I have a new least favorite Celtic. Didn't think anyone would beat KO.
Anyway I hope Danny doesn't compound the mistake and trade Rozier for Embiid. At least Rozier can play basketball on a court.
If Portis falls to us it doesn't excuse this at all. Not at all

TP.......put very eloquent ........it has to be the worst un orthodox ever ........Fab and JJJ were needs , just awful busts.
Complete waste of time
-
I just don't get it I'm trying to look at this pick from every angle but it doesn't make sense.
Unless avery is traded or the kings wanted rozier in a miracle cousins deal I don't know what were gonna do with him :-\
-
It is obvious by Danny's inept drafting skills that the only way this team will make any strides is through free agency...which looks almost as bleak.
-
Marc D’Amico: Brad Stevens on Terry Rozier: “He’s a favorite of Danny’s. We think he’s a really special talent. I’m excited about Terry. You’ll enjoy watching him.”

I guess Maine roster needs more players is the only reason why Ainge pick Rozier
-
Im actually rooting for Roziers career to be a disaster. Danny needs to know what he did wrong.

Tough choice on who the biggest crybabies are....there are a TON of them on here tonight.

Watch Ainge pick Tyus Jones next. Just go full on Kahn

One thing I'm sure of after seeing us pick Rozier, there aint no trade involving 16 that has yet to be announced. That guy was not chosen for any other team, he's all Danny's.
This means we're picking all four, at the original positions. 4 rolls of the dice, limited roster spots.
Yuck.
-
Marc D’Amico: Brad Stevens on Terry Rozier: “He’s a favorite of Danny’s. We think he’s a really special talent. I’m excited about Terry. You’ll enjoy watching him.”
Yeah.....if you live in Maine :P
-
LOL, watch him take Montrezl Harrell!
Yep, that's my hope. But I'm betting Cleveland snags him first.
-
Im actually rooting for Roziers career to be a disaster. Danny needs to know what he did wrong.
I'm rooting for an outcome that makes this thread's biggest crybabies look like losers.
Tough choice on who the biggest crybabies are....there are a TON of them on here tonight.
Hope they all plan on jumping off the bridge! #justdoit

Seriously. What are we going to do with all these young players?
-
I don't think we have enough guards yet. Let's trade up for Tyus!
-
Must be some VERY advanced analytics on him. Also when you have so many picks like we do guess it doesn't matter where you draft whom.
Apparently he blew away the competition in workouts. C's brass said he was better at escaping the trap in a 2-on-1 drill, and also defending the PG bringing up the ball.
-
I like the pick.
Whatever helps you sleep at nite ::). It's a horrid pick. Period.
But we could have had him at #28. He's a borderline second rounder.
You want a high risk high reward player? Were probe my better off taking Upshaw at #16. At least he fills a need. Rozier is coming in on a log jam. If we do trade any of our guards, he has to be really impressive to take time away from Smart, Bradley and Thomas. If you think he can be much more special than those three, then please convince us why, because he's not getting time on the court with those three in the court, which makes this pick a total waste.
hes a combo guard with incredible hops and an enormous wingspan (like 6'8" wingspan?)
do you really think we are keeping all those guards?
is avery bradley the long term answer for us?
id say he wasnt available at 28 either.
nbadraft.net had him as the 4th best pg in the draft....
im saying its not a horrible pick as many of the impulsive reactions here are making it out to be...

Ainge has compiled a lot of picks this year and so far hasn't been able to to trade them for anything. And to make this worst, he drafted a player that plays in our must log-jammed position.
I think the Celtics might be this year's Pheonix Suns.
-
I guess Danny wanted another E'Twan Moore on the roster. So glad we are adding value to an already average roster. This pick is going to surely attract free agents
-
anyone think we took Rozier to exchange with Dallas for Anderson? I could understand that but can't imagine what we'd get from them in addition to Anderson. fingers crossed there's a reason behind this befuddling pick. hope to god this kid blows our minds in summer league in a couple of weeks
so, on pick 23 with Hunter, RHJ and Looney still possible at 28. I would have preferred any of them to Rozier.
-
I like the pick...I think it means Delusional Danny finally figured out the importance of tanking.
-

So another Pressey
Com on Danny Celtics can't play a decade without a REAL center........smh .....

You seem pretty bitter. Maybe being a sports fan isn't good for you. Try Yoga maybe.

When reached for comment Celtics guards had the following to say
Marcus Smart: "Can't talk. Too busy shooting and working on defense."
Avery Bradley: 'I heard can play defense. Whatever. I got a contract"
Isaiah Thomas: "That's not going to make it easier to recruit various stars I know at all"
Phil Pressy: "Yeah I'm pretty sure I could have done fine at Louisville last year. Welcome to the NBA Terry Rozier"
James Young: "Can't talk. If I stop working on my shot to talk Marcus Smart will kick my azz. OW! MARCUS! I was TELLIN EM I can't TALK!"
-
I am really hoping this was a selection for another team. How is Danny going to explain this one?
I don't think so, based on these quotes:
Stevens on Rozier:
"He's a vavourite of Danny's. We think he's a really special talent. I'm excited about Terry. You'll enjoy watching him."
Mark Murphy:
C's rep - "Rozier is the fastest guard in the draft. Gets to the rim. Worked him out twice. Voracious defender."
Source:

Sounds like they legitimately like him.
But looking at the guys draft express profile (there's not much else to go off on him haha) I see the following:
Physical
* 6'2" and 6'8" Wingspan
* 190 lbs @ < 6% body fat
* 33" no step vertical, 38" max vertical
Quite a physical specimen with a wingspan-to-height ratio almost as good as Rajon Rondo - partially makes up for his lack of outright height.
Explosive athlete from what I can see - guy looks like he has a devastating first step, and an crazy vertical.
Skills and talents - Strengths
* Good ball handler
* Good at changing speeds
* Loves to attack the basket
* Capable jump shot and very capable scorer
* Elite defensive player
* Good rebounder for the position
* Low turnover rate
* Great motor - plays hard and doesn't give up on plays
Skills and talents - Weakenesses
* Jump shot lacks consistency
* Not anything special as a passer
* Questionable shot selection
* So-so 'feel for the game'
* Generally perceived a more of a natural SG rather than a PG or combo guard
Looking at all this (plus seeing videos of how he plays / moves) I can certainly see why Ainge could see potential in this kid. He reminds me of a smaller Dwyane Wade in a lot of ways in terms of the way he moves, the way he shoots, the way he attacks the basket, physical strength, etc.
But...the fit seems questionable (given we already have three modest sized guards, two of whom are defensive / energy guys) and as others have said, I would have to think this kid would have still been available either at #28 of by moving up a couple of slots from #28.
Ainge must have liked him a LOT to take him that high up.
Another thing this makes me think is that guy (to me) basically looks like a total clone of Avery Bradley but with better physical strength, better ball handling and better rebounding. Could this indicate that Ainge has a trade planned that would include Avery Bradley?
I would have to think so...
-
I don't think we have enough guards yet. Let's trade up for Tyus!
I expect a combo forward. Kevon Looney is a guy who was once projected to be a possible top five pick, so he seems like a potential buy-low candidate with star potential who might be available at #28.
-
At this point, may as well go Mickey, Upshaw, and A. N. Other
-
Danny will take a Euro at 28...
This pick does not fit the needs of this team. Team need wing scoring in the worst way..not an undersized PG that has no outside shot whatsoever
-
Prepare yourselves for Jordan Mickey next, the undersized party will continue. Rozier is a solid player but there aren't enough minutes to go around unless someone gets traded.
-
I guess Danny wanted another E'Twan Moore on the roster. So glad we are adding value to an already average roster. This pick is going to surely attract free agents
You seem pretty bitter. Maybe being a sports fan isn't good for you. Try Yoga maybe.
Nope. Just tired of collecting picks that don't make the team any better.

8:29 PM - 25 Jun 2015
well, no one at 16 was a star anyway, so ainge went with bpa. the kid is athletic and plays like a bull dog. putting smart and rozier together might be fun to watch.
but i do no see how AB can stay on this team. they must be planning to peddle him someplace.

I will not prepare myself for that. I won't I won't I won't.

The only stat I am seeing is 41% shooting and 30% from 3 averaging 35 min a game in college.
Those are some seriously bad #s. Literally it is a mini-Smart, just a bit smaller and faster. Not a point guard, and not a shooter. It just seems like a huge stretch. We need more size with our guards, and we need guards who can shoot. I am at a loss for how this helps us.
If you liked this guy as BPA, trade back for him, or if he is going get snagged up at 26 or 27 shouldn't we be really thinking about why we are drafting him at 16? I like DA but this is head scratching material. I hope I am wrong.
-
Getting so tired of the phrase "wing span". What do they DO with that wing span!?
-
Danny might be dreaming of Westbrook when he drafted Rozier. Rozier is pretty explosive but not electric explosive like Westbrook. The upside is there if he can put it all together.
-
I like the pick.

Would love to get RJ Hunter at 28..but expect it to be Mickey or a Euro
-
Arturas Gudaitis at 28 is my prediction
Or Osman or the Guillermo guy.
I predict another Syracuse loser
-
If you look at him athletically, you have to like what he brings to the court. This is Ainge once again showing a weird indifference to shooting.
He's certainly the end of Pressey's days as a Celtic and may be the most out-of-the-box pick Ainge has ever made, but it sounds like everybody in the brain trust was in love with him.
Mike
-
Regarding Mickey, he had 12 blocks combined in his two games at the combine scrimmages. He, Rozier, and Connaughton with his shooting kind of stood out from most everyone else. Tokoto was kind of a jack of all trades. Rozier had 8 rebounds in 1 game and Mickey had 8 blocks.

I'm with you on this one, Chambers. I'll guarantee that at least half of the people whining about this pick have never seen this Rozier kid play. He gets all of his own offense, plays great d, is athletic and doesn't turn the ball over. He's nothing like E'twaun Moore or Phil Pressey.
The summer isn't over. No need to panic.

Pick is terrible. Indefensible.
But frankly I stopped caring after the Pacers picked Turner because I knew we utterly failed at that point. If we don't do something in FA, then I won't watch next year..

I'm not sure what numbers are worse for this kid that doesn't fit on the roster:
FG%; 41
3 pt%: 30
Assists per game: 3
This is a great PG?
-
I'd be happy enough with R.J. Hunter, Kevon Looney or Montrezl Harrell at #28
There really isn't that much talent around, and all of these guys look like they could be useful NBA players.
Hunter in particular fills a major need for us with his shooting, and looks to have decent potential as a defender too (wingspan, reasonable athleticism).

this is a swing for the fences pick for sure. ha, ha...now let's see how many threads call for ainge's firing. ;D
-
I just want the Celts to take a big man next.
Spurs take RJ Hunter. Lakers I think take Richuan Holmes
-
interesting deal for Cleveland to get those 2 high seconds. gives them a chance to pick up two possible bench guys for next year including a possible flyer on Upshaw
-
28 is fast approaching. I'm one of the Robert Upshaw fans. Do you take him at 28, or is the 1st too big a gamble with his problems? Will he be there at 35?
If not Hunter is intriquing. As are the two top Euro big men who's names I won't try to type. The M & G guys.
Nevermind. There goes the M guy, Mutinov to the Spurs.
-
We need someone with tremendous upside potential at this point.

true on the lack of talent in the 20s. ainge does better than most GMs in that range. if he gets a player at 28 who even plays in the nba, its a success.
-
well, 4 guards now, not counting Pressey. as much as Hunter's shooting would seem like a good addition, I'm wondering if even if he's BPA at that point, should we go big instead.
-
Getting so tired of the phrase "wing span". What do they DO with that wing span!?
Look up all of the best defensive players from the past 10 years or so.
I would say that you'll find around 70% - 75% of those guys have impressive wingspan.
Three examples are guys we've had ourselves - Rajon Rondo (6'1", 6'9" wingspan), Avery Bradley (6'2", 6'7" wingspan) and Marcus Smart (6'4", 6.9" wingspan).
If you look at shorter centers from the past who became elite shot blockers (e.g. Alonzo Mouring) often those guys had an insane wingspan. Mourning for example was 6'10" only, but he had a wingspan of around 7'6". Same with Dwight Howard.
Combine long wingspan with an impressive vertical leap and a high motor, and the result is often a high caliber defensive player.
A guy like this, despite being only 6'2", would be able to contest jumpers at an impressive rate because of his length, quickness and leaping ability - these allow him to theoretical cover a lot of three dimensional ground very quickly.
Wingspan essentially allows a player to 'play' bigger than their height.
-
Looney, Herrell, Alexander, Hunter all in play. I doubt we would grab another guard though.
-
Lakers take RJ hunter imo
-
Not happy with the pick, but I hope he turns out to be like Eric Bledsoe...
-
Hunter and Looney still available. Pick one of of these guys Ainge and I will be extremely happy!
-
I want Upshaw.
-
This is literally the worse day of my life! :'(
-
Here's the argument for Rozier. In an era when there are more scoring point guards than maybe ever, Boston may have just put together the best defensive bunch of pgs in the league.
Mike Bunge
-
We'll have a shot to take RJ Hunter or Montrezl Harrell at 28, which are both very good value.
-
well, 4 guards now, not counting Pressey. as much as Hunter's shooting would seem like a good addition, I'm wondering if even if he's BPA at that point, should we go big instead.
yeah, some one needs to pack their bags because they will be leaving the celtics. my bet is AB will be moving.
at 28? i hope it is looney. he was highly ranked at one point.
-
I just watched the Rozier story. Wow, touching. Im all in to trade Avery.
-
We need someone with tremendous upside potential at this point.
This was a wasted pick
We could have traded way the heck back to get this scrub.......probably at 28 th
I can't recall a worse draft night ....... I was at least pleased with Fab Melo the night he was picked anyway.
This seems like a bad dream

TP for the positivity
-
Please take Hunter with this pick
-
Hunter, Harrell and Looney available at 28. Not too bad, but could pick anyone at this point.
-
Omg please rj hunter for the bad taste to go away
-
Wow, Larry Nance jr. in the first round. Way to go Lakers.
-
I want Upshaw.
Me too. Do it Danny.
-
Getting so tired of the phrase "wing span".
Yeah but all those guys could play
-
Lakers take Nance jr? didn't see that coming

i understand your point, but it is not accurate. chicago wanted rozier at #22 i read. what is the point of trying to trade back 3-5 spots?
let's wait and see on rozier, at least until the summer. i saw this tweet about him:
Alex Kennedy ?@AlexKennedyNBA
Many of the top point guard prospects in the draft refused to work out against Terry Rozier, which is partially why he didn't get more hype.

Man, there's a bunch of nice players who have fallen to us at 28. There's at least 4 guys who everyone projected to be picked before this.
And the fact that the Lakers just picked Larry Nance Jr. makes you question taking Russell at 2.
Mike
-
If we dont get Looney or Harrell ill scream.
Rj hunter is an absolute clown.
-
No more undersized players for their position please. We have a team full of them. I'd rather a stash big man here than another redundant undersized PF or tweener.
-
Its got to be Hunter since we still have KO and Sully at the 4
-
Must be some VERY advanced analytics on him. Also when you have so many picks like we do guess it doesn't matter where you draft whom.
Apparently he blew away the competition in workouts. C's brass said he was better at escaping the trap in a 2-on-1 drill, and also defending the PG bringing up the ball.
This 100%. I hate those shooting #s. He'll be 22 mid-season, probably not making a leap as a shooter. No risk in trading back if this is the player Ainge had to have even if just for cap space and more 2nd round picks.
But I'm excited to get excited for Looney?
-
I like the pick.
Whatever helps you sleep at nite ::). It's a horrid pick. Period.
If you think he can be much more special than those three, then please convince us why, because he's not getting time on the court with those three in the court, which makes this pick a total waste.
hes a combo guard with incredible hops and an enormous wingspan (like 6'8" wingspan?)
do you really think we are keeping all those guards?
is avery bradley the long term answer for us?
id say he wasnt available at 28 either.
nbadraft.net had him as the 4th best pg in the draft....
im saying its not a horrible pick as many of the impulsive reactions here are making it out to be...
http://www.nbadraft.net/ranking/positional
I'm with you on this one, Chambers. I'll guarantee that at least half of the people whining about this pick have never seen this Rozier kid play. He gets all of his own offense, plays great d, is athletic and doesn't turn the ball over. He's nothing like E'twaun Moore or Phil Pressey.
The summer isn't over. No need to panic.
i read that chicago wanted rozier at #22. so ainge took him at 16. he seems better than i thought.
this is a swing for the fences pick for sure. ha, ha...now let's see how many threads call for ainge's firing. ;D
It's not who he picked, it's where he licked and our personell.
We have a ton of guards. For him to develop, he needs court time, you think he can get court time with Bradley, Smart and Thomas? Of course thy could still be traded, but so far, we have log jam unless it gets fixed.
And then, the #16. He's slotted in the late lottery. He could still be available at #20. Danny could easily acquire a future second or some money for the #20 moving down.
It's not the player, it's the fit and the slot he was picked in. So far, it's dumb.
-
NO SYRACUSE BIGS!!!!
-
I can barely look.
The great part is we upgraded at coach and got the 28th pick for it. Maybe we can get a euro stash
-
Well do not be surprised if Ainge is out of a job next year. Can not believe this is happening. Promises to make sparks then does this ****. He has no ****ing plan.
Good rant, TP. I hope you feel better bro. Could have replaced Sully with Portis. Rozier is an OK player but W T F we just don't need him.
-
If we dont get Looney or Harrell ill scream.
Rj hunter is an absolute clown.
yeah, either of those two would make me happy. both were once ranked in the top 10 draft picks, then dropped like rocks. at 28, go for it!
-
NO SYRACUSE BIGS!!!!
They aren't even that big by nba standards
-
Ugh..another Louisville kid? Might as well go back and rehire Pitino
-
Please let this be Looney here
-
I want Upshaw.
Me too. Do it Danny.
#33 for Upshaw. Non-guaranteed. I like Looney here.

Pick is Hunter! Thank God

That makes me feel better. I'm reading some better opinions on the Rozier pick.
-
Yes!
-
I want Upshaw.
Me too. Do it Danny.
#33 for Upshaw. Non-guaranteed. I like Looney here.
#45 for Upshaw or better yet a camp invite when he goes undrafted. guess the people pushing for Upshaw at 16 need to rethink the evaluations. still wouldn't take him over Rozier
-
We're the Celtics and we have guards
-
Hahahahaha who needs anybody but guards. All the guards.
God what a horrible draft.
-
Well, he's a great shooter and we like shooting 3's.
-
PG: Isiah Thomas
SG: Terry Rozier
SF: Marcus Smart
PF: Avery Bradley
C: RJ Hunter
Next level small ball incoming.

Love this pick!
-
Nice pick with Hunter at #28 - very happy with that one.
-
The newest Celtic...

nice pick. steal
-
Another guard?
-
Hunter. Ok, another guard but I get picking this kid
-
WOO ANOTHER GUARD!
DIDN'T YOU HEAR? THE NBA IS GOING SMALLLLLLlllllll
(tonight sucks)
-
Hunter at 28 is a steal ;)
-
Good pick, a 6'6 guard who can really spread the floor....also could be a trade asset.
-
Two guards in the first round 2 years in a row....
Watch harrell and looney become stars
-
I like this pick at 28. They have to trade a guard though. There are still some big guys on the board. Gulatis (sp?), Wood, Upshaw, Guillermo, etc.
-
Yeah, Ainge has no choice but to ship out multiple guys. Don't get too attached to Smart, Thomas, or Bradley or any of the new guys.
-
This kid fills a need. 3 point shooting and outside shooting. Good pick at 28. But Rozier at 16 was not.
I hope with the pick of Rozier, Bradley's days as a Celtic are coming to an end.
-
Good. Its atleast water taming away the burning from the mouth.
You know what they say, it's a guard driven league, and we have plenty now. At least we got a guy who can shoot.
-
Good pick, a 6'6 guard who can really spread the floor....also could be a trade asset.
could be. kid was considered a possible late lottery option for teams that needed shooters so I'm happy with him as the pick. C's still have good options left for a big man and only have 4 teams picking before them again.
-
Two guards in the first round 2 years in a row....

what say we wait and see who is available at 33? you never know. ;D

PG: Isiah Thomas
SG: Terry Rozier
SF: Marcus Smart
PF: Avery Bradley
C: RJ Hunter
Next level small ball incoming.
This is insane .......mini ball .........
I have list faith ...this draft makes zero sense.
We need 7 foot plus centers ....not tiny 6 ft guards that can't shoot
-
RJ Hunter is 6ft 6 and weighs 185 pounds so I assume he ate a meal once in 2007.
-
I'd like for us to swing for the fences in the 2nd round with Christmas and Upshaw given the non-guaranteed deals.
-
PG: Isiah Thomas
SG: Terry Rozier

Jalen was just making fun of them. Probably trying to get Bill worked up at home.
-
saw something posted by ESPN that Looney has a hip issue. anyone have info on that? would it make it a concern to take him with 33 if he's there?
-
If the Cavs get their greasy paws on Harrell ill be livid.
-
PG: Isiah Thomas
SG: Terry Rozier
SF: Marcus Smart

****!!! Sad part its true..one of worst draft ever..both players be out of NBA in 5 years..hope im wrong...any guards left in 2nd round? if not, Ainge will go nuts!!
-
Maybe Ainge had some trades available for one of our guards if he got the guards he wanted in the draft. There are some bigs rumored to be available, from Cousins to Favors to Noah, to Gibson, and on and on. You have to keep first round picks so there must be a deal in the works.
-
RJ Hunter is 6ft 6 and weighs 185 pounds so I assume he ate a meal once in 2007.
Danny will make him McSullys little brother. He will bulk up quickly.
-
PG Smart, Rozier
SG Thomas, Young, Hunter
Trade Avery Bradley, cut Pressey
-
Why has Looney dropped so far? Perhaps we can take chances with him and Upshaw in the 2nd round.
I agree, we're going to be shipping out some of our guards.
-
almost back on the clock. ;D if harrell is there, ainge grabs him. if not, maybe guillermo gets picked.
-
Yeah, Ainge has no choice but to ship out multiple guys. Don't get too attached to Smart, Thomas, or Bradley or any of the new guys.
The Celtics trade Marcus Smart, Avery Bradley, Isaiah Thomas, Jared Sullinger, Tyler Zeller, and both future Brooklyn firsts for Demarcus Cousins and Carl Landry, giving Karl an instant starting lineup that made the playoffs, subbing in Rudy Gay for Evan Turner.
Team is:
Rozier/Pressey
Hunter/Young
Turner/Crowder/Wallace
Bass/Jerebko/Olynyk
Cousins
-
PG Smart, Rozier
SG Thomas, Young, Hunter
Trade Avery Bradley, cut Pressey
One guard almost has to be traded... and of course Pressey is doomed.
-
Dannyr must be brewing something. We already have tons of undersized guards. I like the Young/Hunter duo though. They can be the east version of splash brothers. I say trade Bradley, cut Babb and Pressey then keep Terry whoever he is. His skillset intrigued me.
-
almost back on the clock. ;D if harrell is there, ainge grabs him. if not, maybe guillermo gets picked.
I've got to think it's Harrell or Wood at 33
-
wow. hard to believe looney dropped so far. GS can use him.
EDIT: i just read looney has a degenerative back and hip problem. poor guy. but this explains the drop.
-

If you think Cousins is unhappy now, he'd go nuts being traded to a team with those players. a completely inexperienced backcourt and a set of mediocre forwards
-
If Celtics select Dakari Johnson, this will no doubt be worst draft in history..he is worst than Fab Melo and im a UK fan
-
Here is why I like the Rozier pick
It's not his talent, what he's done in high school and college, or what he may do for the Cs.
It's the acknowledgement that the Cs are not close. We're not at a place where we should take a player that "fits a role"
Instead this pick is a best player available move. That's where the Cs have to be right now if we aren't able to make trades. I don't know if I agree with the talent evaluation, but I completely agree with the assessment of where the team is and the strategy to take the best player on the board.
I also like the message to the players, the fans, and the league that no one is unavailable. i think the Cs have to be willing to move any of their current roster to improve including Smart, even though I am a HUGE fan.
So while I may not like the player, I like what it seems to indicate about the front offices perspective on where the Cs are, where they need to be, and how they are going to get there.
-

Harrell would be good...
-
nm
-
Looney good pick
-
I really like Cedi Osman as a draft and stash. I started a thread about it the other day. Bummer.
-
Ugh. I was hoping the Cs would come away with M. Harrell. Houston! Darn you!
-
Pick is Mickey..no real surprise. Danny took the two secret workout guys
-
ok, Harrell off the board. Wood or does Triboy get his dream with Mickey?
-
mickey, holmes or christmas. Please no more guards
-
Roy Hibbert opted in with Indy. They are likely to move him. Not sure if there is a match, or a want, here in Boston.
Celtics on the clock! Take Upshaw or Wood Danny.
-
I want the pick to be christian wood but itll be a stupid draft n stash pick
-
Was hoping we'd fill that gaping hole we have at Guard here in the 2nd.
-
Pick has been made and it is Mickey

Biggest holes on the roster: Center and Small Forward.
Danny selects: Point guard, shooting guard, and power forward

anyone else irritated the league doesn't make the picks on the right schedule? need to get these picks in every 2 minutes. need to see #45 and get to bed for work early in the morning

mickey it is.
woo hoo!! this kid is a steal

I might have preferred Wood, and definitely prefer Upshaw, but...

YES!
you're now legally obligated to do a Toni Basil imitation singing "Mickey". ;) Hope he's all you say he is Triboy

Upshaw, anyone?

He looks thrilled...
he wanted to go in the 1st round.
We finally get a shot blocker/above the rim presence

triboy is dancing tonight. ;D
mickey it is.
I really hope he pans out. I have no choice, but to root for him now.
Hoping for Upshaw at 45

Jordan Mickey, continuing the tradition of LSU PFs becoming Celtics, after Glen Davis and Brandon Bass.
-
Stevens on picks: "We thought Mickey would be gone by 33. We thought Hunter would be gone when we picked at 28."

sixers with another center. we're going small ball and Philly is starting the over 7'0" league

So what does this roster look like going forward?? Boston has a lot of players before free agency...gotta think Bass is not going to be resigned
1. Bradley

This is turning out to be a very good draft.
-
International player with the 45th pick is my guess
-
so far this draft has been surprising for me.
rozier was a surprise, but as i learned more about him i can see why ainge choose him at #16. no game changers were on the board, so go with a superior athlete with speed. those are nba skills.
hunter? a win there.
mickey? another win.
no if he gets upshaw at 45, this is a good draft. ;D and by the way, i, for one, am glad ainge didnt pick upshaw at 16.

Of Pearl Harbor
The draft night Danny tanked the team with a bunch of lousy picks, no FA , just pike of medium level draft picks ......and lost his job
With a roster of ten 6 ft players ....maybe the team will lose 60 games

Absolutely must take a chance on Upshaw at 45. Please none of that international bull crap.

hoping for Upshaw with our last pick

Celtics with Rozier and Mickey add explosiveness the team was lacking.
RJ Hunter adds 3 pt shooting. James Young better get it together
Zeller
Sully
Turner

If you're the Celtics, do you just go with all these young guys next year, if you can't land a top dog like Aldridge or Love? Or do you still try to sign a second tier guy like Monroe, and get incrementally better?
Keep in mind that signing Monroe means less minutes for your alleged "assets" to get better. By the same token Monroe is a good young player that gets you a step closer to relevance. I might opt for the go big (as in sign a big dog) or play with what you got if you don't. Thoughts? Might be better to spend a season letting these guys play.
-
Wow!!! My mouth flew open..could got him with 28th...Does Ainge know that u can draft players over 6-4???
Oh, he does—all those 6-8 "bigs." ;D
-
If Mickey is anywhere near Taj Gibson in his game...then he can be an important piece of the front court..I personally think they resign Crowder

would have to believe that roster ends up deep in the lottery next year. quite possibly 3 lotto picks and a possibility of getting Minny's first as well since they could do much better next year if 2-3 of their prospects make "the leap"
-
maybe if the draft went
16- Hunter
28- Rozier
33- Mickey
ppl wouldn't be taking out the pitch fork right now. Who cares who went where. In the end it's who we got
Hunter is a 16th pick worthy level prospect. Best shooter of the draft
-
Dakari Johnson still available... will he make it to 45?
-
Upshaw is a must for us at 45 and wow, the medical and drug issues must be extreme. I am willing for us to take a chance unless he was dealing the drugs :P
Maybe if we combine 2 guards together on our roster, it will equal one center.

ppl wouldn't be taking out the pitch fork right now. Who cares who went where. In the end it's who we got
Hunter is a 16th pick worthy level prospect. Best shooter of the draft
fair point. Hunter wasn't a stretch at 16. I still think the Rozier pick would have gotten roasted because there were still decent bigs available at 28

Come on Upshaw!
-
Adrian Wojnarowski ?@WojYahooNBA 1m1 minute ago
Brooklyn will send Mason Plumlee and Pat Connaughton to the Blazers for Hollis-Jefferson and Blake, league sources tell Yahoo.
Really? Seems sort of light for Plumlee no?
BTw, Celtics on the clock. Upshaw Danny!!!
-
C'mon, Boston. Snag Upshaw here.
-
Please be Upshaw!
-
Who goes at 45? Euro?
-
Dakari Johnson still available... will he make it to 45?
Either he or Upshaw will at this point.
though Dakari could be a decent option earlier this season but now concerned he couldn't get to Perk's level. Upshaw, at this point, sure. not much else there that catches my eye as a better option
-
C'mon.... Upshaw. Upshaw! Upshaw! Upshaw!
I will feel sooo much better about this draft if we take Upshaw with the 45th pick.
-
Dakari Johnson still available... will he make it to 45?
u
Either he or Upshaw will at this point.
And it's... another guard! Didn't we trade away Marcus Thornton this year? ;)
-
did they just pick another PG?
-
Danny Ainge has lost his darn mind.
-
and marcus thornton it is. that should cure the celtics' shortage of guards. ::)
-
Ahahahahahaha....another tiny guard....ahahahahaha....good night!
-
I'm FURIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!
WE NEEDED A CENTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
wow i'm lost
-
Wow. Another PG? Not following this line of thinking....
-
Honestly I don't know what Ainge's thought process is here.
-
Despicable. Ainge needs to go into the witness protection program. Passing on Wood AND upshaw? Terrible.
-
and marcus thornton it is. that should cure the celtics' shortage of guards. ::)
maybe danny is looking for another IT to trade this guy.lol
-
Blah. I guess if Ainge thinks he can become a decent NBA player then whatever. Upshaw must really not have checked out.
-
He has the dreads of Crowder, but he's under the Celtics' maximum height of 6'4".
Man, Jae was sure expendable. I thought his hair was hard to replace, but we managed to replace him with someone shorter! Score!!
-
i swear, what ever it is that upshaw is doing, it must truly be horrific. does he regularly participate in human sacrifices or something like that?
wow.
-
Marcus Thornton is electric! nice pick
Thornton and Rozier can battle it out in the summer league/practice
Thornton will be sent down in the d league or play in europe probably. But he is as explosive as they come in this draft
-
Welp...hope they try to address the swing and big position in free agency
-
So tonight the Celts drafted, like ... Cory Joseph, Elliot Williams, and Jeremy Evans.
Hooray.
-
ang philly picks another C.lol
-
ang philly picks another C.lol
maybe philly and the celtics plan on merging?
-
Despicable. Ainge needs to go into the witness protection program. Passing on Wood AND upshaw? Terrible.
yeah, don't get passing on Wood. that's just mind boggling
-
I think Danny and Hinkie got their brains switched
Danny's only choosing guards and Hinkie's only choosing Centers
Do you guys not realize that you're drafting players in your deepest positions!?!?!?!?!
-
Ugh, another guard. I am beyond excited now. Please remind me why I stayed up for this? Maybe Upshaw after draft is over?
Well, if we ever play a game of hide and seek with the Sixers, I am betting on our team.
-
from SoSH...
Thornton, can shoot. 39% from 3, he had the 2nd highest max vertical, 4th quickest shuttle eun at the combine (Rozier was 3rd), fastest combine sprint, and he's short.
-
As a collection, I don't love the Celtics picks, but individually, I'm fine with all of them. I guess that's what happens with BPA. I was hoping for Thornton at 33, and we got him at 45, I love Hunter at 28, and if Ainge was really excited about what he saw on Rozier, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt (I think he intended to pick Oubre but for the trade that jumped ahead of him). I'm not a huge Mickey fan, but he's got length, even if the top of his head isn't that tall.
Really there weren't many players who were going to make a difference next year outside the first few picks anyway, so we've got four guys to develop for a year. If two pan out, that's perfectly fine.
-
Just a horrible, unbelievable night. Hopefully Danny knows of some potential trades that he's got planned, because right now we have one mess of a backcourt jam.
And I cannot believe he didn't take a chance and draft Upshaw with his last pick. I mean, why not?
-
Here is why I like the Rozier pick
So while I may not like the player, I like what it seems to indicate about the front offices perspective on where the Cs are, where they need to be, and how they are going to get there.
great post

All right Colton Iverson, here's your chance at a roster spot...

well stated. not being to move up was disappointing, but ainge doesnt control that all by himself.
as for the picks, i am fine given the spots open. only quibble is at 45 where i wanted upshaw. but ainge knows more on that situation than i do.

should we have taken upshaw at 16?
-
should we have taken upshaw at 16?
Why 16? We could have had him at 45.
-
Not sure about this logic...

Ainge says Celts probably don't have room for all four picks. Adds that they may be buying another pick before draft is over.

That was a shout out to a few vocal posters who advocated for Upshaw at 16 because he'd be gone by 28.
-
How are they not even mentioning Upshaw? Theyre avoiding him like the plague.

it was a tongue in cheek comment to our friends insisting he wouldn't last to 28...

Thornton is probably a Euro stash like Iverson. The bought pick would probably be as well.
-
funny if PHI also takes Upshaw.
-
they just listed upshaw as the 10th best player now!
-

I understand Upshaw not getting drafted but what did Wood do?
-
With the 60th pick in the NBA draft the Philadelphia 76ers select... Robert Upshaw Center out of Washington

Exactly what I was thinking. Plus, there could be a guy still there (Wood, Upshaw, Alexander) that we'd like to get a closer look at and can do so in Summer League.
-

He stayed out on the perimeter alot. On the defensive end got pushed around. He is literally a stick and there are concerns he won't be able to put on weight. If he does, might slow him down. His shot selection at times were horrible (taking 3's with a full clock). Things like this scares teams away.
-
Well there you go Upshaw goes undrafted. Must be serious cocaine issues which caused his heart problems, or he works for ISIS.
-
I think Upshaw not getting drafted should be the final piece of evidence that his problems really were as serious as reports mentioned, and not merely draft smokescreen.
Most surprised about Cliff Alexander not getting drafted of all the top names to miss out.
-
well, let's see who the celtics bring to camp. maybe upshaw will get an invite.
oh, and a final note, who was the poster who kept swearing up and down that if the celtics did not take upshaw at 16, he would be gone? guess he was off the mark a bit on this one.
-

surprised about Alexander also. He will get an invite to play in the summer league. So will Wood.
Alexander went from being one of the top ranked hs players to going undrafted a year later. Kind of a sad story

That would be Yoki. Future Celtics Owner was also on board with that idea, but Yoki led the charge.
-
complete draft fail sans hunter. Here's to another year of mediocrity!
-
I love Chicago getting Bobby Portis at 22. That is a great pick for them. Shades of Jimmy Butler as dependable college guy turning into high quality pro over time.
Pity they are already loaded at PF with Pau Gasol, Taj Gibson and Nikola Mirotic. I'd love to see Chicago move on from Taj Gibson and maybe Pau Gasol as well.
PG: D-Rose
SG: J.Butler
SF: (major need)
PF: Mirotic, Portis
C: Noah
Bring in a high quality SF who can score a bit and that is an impressive new look Bulls team. A lot more quickness on the floor. They became too slow-footed last season with Pau Gasol in the lineup, with D-Rose returning from injury and old guards like Hinrich. Improving team speed should be a priority for them.
I think moving away from the Noah-Pau dynamic will be important to them fixing their defense and opening up their offense. I'd chose Noah over Pau. Younger & better defensively. Noah has been the single largest factor in creating that team's identity over last few years. Rare to have players who can do that.

I still can't believe that people in here legitimately wanted to draft this guy at 16 because of "potential." Him going undrafted says a lot.

This is a really interesting article on Porzingis, but I think it highlights how much better the Spanish League training staffs have gotten. Here is one of the more notable parts:
Rocky Jarana: “We were first approached about possibly signing Kristaps Porzingis by Salva Mendez, who works for U1st agency these days. We gave him a tryout in Seville in May/June 2010. He was roughly 6-foot-7 and super skinny. We saw he was super coordinated for his size and at the same time was far away from full maturation from a physical standpoint. It looked like he had to grow a lot more. We took a gamble on him. When he returned for preseason three months later, he was 6-foot-9 already, but still super skinny. He weighed around 150 pounds. It was a mess.”
He was a quick learner. I worked with him on his point guard skills and we fixed his shooting mechanic, which was a little off. He was very coachable and made quick progress from a technical standpoint. The big problem was his lack of stamina and strength. He would take 15 shots in a row and we had to stop because his shoulder couldn’t take it. It was like that his first three months with us and we had no idea what was going on. I really got upset with him once, asking him how in the world was it possible that he couldn’t take 15 shots in a row and keep going. I told him I just couldn’t believe it and he started crying.
Eventually we put him through some tests and our nutritionist found out he was dealing with anemia due to an enzyme deficiency. He underwent treatment and in one month it was like night and day. Both his body and his character changed. He went from being a shy kid who stayed away from people to becoming a jokester and one of the guys.”
It must be so Edited. Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.n hard to scout these guys, but at least with Porzingis, you had a full year of decent play. I don't know how you scout Bender, because he's just so young.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned Ben Bentil of the Providence College Friars. He's a Soph. 6-9 235, and very much over shadowed by potential top 5 pick Chris Dunn.
I've seen the friars twice this year live, and a handful of times on TV and it was Bentil that got my attention. Bentil is leading the Big East in scoring by half dozen points. He's physical, and rebounds well, and his game is really expanding beyond the 3 point line.
I don't know if he's coming out this year, or where he be ranked...but the kids real good.

This is the thread for last year's draft, so no one would have mentioned him.

Once the draft order is finalized, I start putting it together. Hence, the draft board, It's like a game day thread, though and won't get unlocked until draft day.
