The Celts hired a private law firm to conduct an investigation. They won't be saying much of anything at all due to "privacy" (i.e., legal) reasons.
Players are "very concerned".
Suspension is through June 30, 2023. Ime's future hasn't been determined beyond that.
Brad: Nothing to add. Long, thorough process. It's been a hard time.
It's been hard on women in organization.
Wyc: Found out about the situation over the summer. Investigation had some "twists and turns". Wrapped up 2 days ago. Can't disclose details of investigation.
Suspension is "well-warranted" and backed by substantial facts.
Brad: No way to control twitter narratives, but it's "unfair" to female employees. Messaging and support is being provided.
Wyc: Have enforced similar team policies in the past. No other employees are being disciplined. Concerns with culture don't go more broadly than Ime.
Brad: A lot of people (players) weren't aware that there would be a change. There's a real relationship there. A personal connection. "Human beings are human beings". Players / coaches can't walk back on the court and pretend that everything is fine. There are "human emotions all over the place".
Wyc: There are no clear guidelines in terms of how they came to one year versus a firing. It was clear that "something substantial needed to be done".
Brad: Ime was vetted. There was nothing in his past to suggest a history.
The timing is hard on Mazzula and the rest of the staff, but Brad believes in him.
Brad: Declined to answer whether he considered stepping in (Wyc says they did talk about it). "Joe's the best choice by a long shot". Brad: "Absolutely not" in terms of stepping in this season.
Wyc: "There were a couple of violations, at least".
Won't say if it's an unpaid suspension, but it's a "significant financial penalty".
Wyc: "Our hands are basically tied... there's going to be a consequence".
Brad: You need to have empathy for everybody involved. "It's a really tough time".
Brad: There could be an addition to the staff, but it hasn't been discussed a lot yet. Believes in current staff, thinks that multiple guys could become future head coaches.
Won't go into the specifics of suspension, what contact is / is not allowed.
Brad: Has fully vetted Joe Mazzulla about college incidents. Has known him a long time. Brad believes strongly in Joe's character.
