  • Signature move: Punch to the jejunum
☑️ LeBron James re-signing
☑️ Trading away Talen Horton-Tucker (youth)
☑️ Brought in Patrick Beverley (point guard replacement)

All these signs point to a win now move by the Lakers front office.

—————————

Lakers: Myles Turner, Buddy Hield

Pacers: Russell Westbrook (immediately waived), Austin Reaves, 2027 Lakers 1st round pick, 2029 Lakers 1st round pick.

—————————

Los Angeles Lakers

Beverley
Hield
James
Davis
Turner

Walkers IV, Thomas, Nunn, Toscano-Anderson

—————————

Why would the Indiana Pacers do this trade? The same reason the Spurs & Jazz are trading away their prime talent for future assets, the 2023 NBA draft.

All three are small market franchises who struggle to bring in star free agents.

Obviously Victor Wembanyama is the jewel of the upcoming draft, but let’s not forget guys like Scoot Henderson, Nick Smith Jr. & Dariq Whitehead.
5' 10" former point guard

Career highlight: 1973-74 championship, Boston Celtics

Career lowlight: traded for a washing machine

I doubt they’d give up Reaves, but otherwise the framework makes sense.

There’s also a rumor that if the Knicks and Jazz make a deal for Mitchell, the Lakers could get involved as a third team.  Utah would take Westbrook and send out decent players to LA for draft compensation.

Lakers talk.  Great.  They obviously should go ‘win now’ because they never really have much to lose. If they blow it over the remaining Lebron years it will only be a short time till the next top 3 guy makes his way there.  Laker talk is irritating. They’ll be relevant.  It’s the one organization in professional sports that I wouldn’t destroy if I were GM.
