https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/34303384/greatest-nfl-players-ever-every-defensive-special-teams-position-picking-goat-edge-rusher-linebacker-cornerback-kicker

Quarterback - Brady (44 of 50 votes)
Running Back - Brown (23)
Wide Receiver - Rice (45)
Tight End - Gronkowski (23 - Gonzalez had 21 so right there)
Offensive Tackle - Munoz (27)
Offensive Guard - Allen (21)
Center - Webster (15 - Otto had 13, Bednarik 11)
Edge Rusher - Taylor (40)
Defensive Tackle - Donald (39)
Linebacker - Lewis (23)
Cornerback - Sanders (32)
Safety - Lott (27)
Kicker/Punter - Vinatieri (22 - though Tucker got 21 so will likely pass him)
Returner/Special Teamer - Hester (29)

Some of the voting was very strange.  Like 2 people went for Manning and frankly even Montana getting 4 at this point is hard to fathom.  Lewis not even getting half of the votes at LB was a bit of surprise for me, especially since he was still 10 clear of Butkus (same with Jim Brown as he seems like the clear choice at RB to me and Faulk, Tomlinson, and Dickerson got 4 votes between them which is just strange).  Tucker nearly being the GOAT kicker when he may not even be half way through his career at this point was also a bit of surprise.

Brady 2nd most offense
Taylor 1st most defense
Vinitieri 2nd most special teams

The voters are all Belichick shills.

I don't disagree, but LT is my defensive GOAT.

LT was a linebacker. Maybe if they specified OLB vs ILB it would make sense for Lewis to be there.
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

Offense gets it right with 7 positions: QB, RB, WR, TE, T, G, C

But defense should not have just 5 positions. There are 7: DE, DT, NG, ILB, OLB, CB, S. Maybe they combine DT and NG but there should be at least 6 positions on the defensive side and I think 7 would be better. But how dear you give those defensive lineman so much run.  ::) Lol.

Why they didn't separate the defensive positions like they did the offense makes little sense.

I don't love that they don't have 11 offense, 11 defense, and 4 special teams. I know they are going best ever at a general position, but they could have literally done that and still stayed true to the criteria (slot receiver, left guard, strong safety, free safety, etc).

It gets tricky quick.

Vince Wilfork the nose guard doesn't line up over the center, someone else does, that makes him a DT, but he is the outside guy in a 3-4 which makes him the DE. Except the OLB on that side is really the DE. Then that makes the ILB on that side an OLB.
While this is going on the deep safety (free) rotates down making him the OLB, but blitzes making him the DE.
The weakside cornerback drops deep middle making him the free safety. The strong safety covers the WR making him a CB.

The offensive line false starts and we try again.

Kicker/punter combined is weird.

I think its an offense/defense thing. Punters won't get the respect.
Same thing for returner/special teamer.
Hester deservedly gets the glory, but what about a guy who blocks kicks, blocks punts, scoops and scores, causes fumbles tackling on returns, like our own Troy Brown or Don Beebe.

They did get lazy on this.  No reason they couldn't have just done every position i.e. QB, WR, RB, FB, TE, RT, LT, LG, RG, C and DE, DT, OLB, ILB, CB, S, K, P, Returner, Special Teamer
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip
