I asked in the Knicks game thread..Tatum for Randle who says no. I think the answer is clear now.
This is just as much an overreaction as the trade proposal

Who says no, Goukki? I honestly really don’t know. I think it’s a toss up at this point because Tatum has so much promise but Randle is performing now.

Boston says no. Tatum has a much higher ceiling than Randle, is younger, and Randle is an expiring contract.
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

Keeping Tatum and Brown just seems short-sighted. Brown and Randle is a better fit or even Tatum and Randle than Brown and Tatum. This forced match reminds me of how in my opinion Houston wrecked Ralph Samson’s career by matching him with Olajuwon.

It certainly could be a problematic, I'm not too sure. I think KAT would be a near-ideal target alongside either of the Jays personally.

Having Tatum and Brown isn't the problem. How you use them is.

Brad did not play them together as much as he should have. They were the duo with the third most minutes played together in minutes per game. So far through 2 games, the duo is 6th on the team in minutes played together.

And under both coaches, the Jays don't play in unison or off each other at all. One will have the ball and the other stands in the corner. This is two years in a row under two different coaches.

This isn't rocket science. MJ and Pippen played with and off each other. Lebron and Wade did. Isiah Thomas and Joe Dumas did. There are tons of examples of players that played similar positions playing in tandem to amazing success. But the Celtics last two coaches, when they have both on the floor together uses one as a decoy in the corner while the other does what he does with the ball.

That's all on the coaching. It has nothing to do with the players.

Indeed. Something has to change. Either the coaching has to wake up and figure it out, or the playing group has to change

Randle just signed a 4 year extension.

But I would never trade Tatum for him.  I think Randle is having an outlier portion of his career.

So if we don’t think Tatum is a winner we trade for Ben “pass instead of dunking, shoot a three coward” Simmons? What am I missing here.

Ah yeah, forgot about that. Almost $30m a year for someone like Randle is a lot.

If Lillard goes on the market, the Sixers are going to go after him themselves not help us get him.
Portland trading both Lillard and McCollum makes little sense and they could get a better return for them if they did.
I didn't even read the trade proposal itself. Having done so... wow. Why on earth do Portland give up Lillard (currently better than Tatum) and McCollum (better than Horford)? If they got Tatum and Simmons in return, maybe.

I agree they wouldn’t do the deal but Tatum definitely has more trade value for just about all teams than lillard at 31 making 10-12 million more a year.

In a vacuum, maybe. I would say they're of equal value myself - it's the McCollum for Horford swap that makes the balance completely off

Why would you build around the far less valuable of the two players?
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

The idea rests on the presumption that Lillard and McCollum both want out. If that’s the case, we all know how much Simmons’ value has gone down. If Portland really wanted to rebuild around Tatum, with a friendly smile in Horford to ease the transition, perhaps we can turn Tatum into a definite, albeit 31 years old, superstar (Lillard) and a potential superstar (Simmons). Maybe the 76ers are forced to come to the table and deal Simmons to us because Portland agreed to Tatum/Horford/1st for Lillard/McCollum otherwise. Frankly, moving Simmons for McCollum (probably an all-star if he played for Philly) and a first at this point would be a stroke of enormous luck for the 76ers. Heck, I’m 50/50 on whether I’d rather have McCollum or Simmons, giving the nod to the latter simply because of his age and the hopes this ordeal will light a fire under his butt to finally up his FT and FG shooting.

Unlikely to happen, but clearly there’s no other way to turn any of our assets into two incoming all-stars to pair with one of our two all-stars. And perhaps the JB fans are right, the guy is just going to keep climbing and ultimately be better than JT…
