That’s another guy to cross off the list to coach the Celtics when Brad gets fired for incompetence next month  :-\

Always felt he talked and acted like a great coach, but lacked the ability to prove it in wins and losses.

Which is why he is not a great coach.

Dear lord the Pelicans are absolute morons. What an awful hire. "You know what our roster that is full of young, exciting players needs? A re-retread that hasn't been a decent head coach in over a decade." With the young team the Pels have, you swing for the fences on an exciting unknown who has a chance to offer something new. Should have just kept Gentry if this is what they were gonna do.

For gods sake New Orleans why!

I take back all those Kemba for Jrue trade ideas. Would never do such a ghastly thing to Kemba

Stan is the kind of coach that makes the players so tired of listening to him that the next coach has it easy.

Eh. I don't mind it as a hire. He understands players' strengths and builds offenses around it. When he had Dwight in Orlando, he maximized Dwight's ability to draw defenses in as a roller. It was Dwight who believed he was a back to the basket offensive center.

Kinda what I was thinking. I gotta admit, it's a great gig being a halfway decent pro coach, because teams keep giving you chances, even though you never really prove worthwhile.

SVG is fine as a coach.  It was the dual role that killed him in Detroit.  I mean seriously, look at how awful Detroit is within 2 years (with basically the same core) and with the reigning Coach of the Year that followed SVG.  He got a bum rap in Miami.  I mean they won 59 games and took the defending champs to game 7 in ECF, and then 20 games into the next season Riley fired him so he could get all the credit and after there was mass roster turnover (basically only Wade, Shaq, and Haslem came back).  He went to Orlando and took over a 40 win team had them winning 50+ games for 4 straight seasons (now they did add Lewis his 1st season which helped) and took a fairly weak team to the Finals (DHoward is pretty flawed as #1 players go and Lewis isn't exactly a solid #2).  He had his spat with Howard who essentially got him fired before everyone realized Howard was just a nut case.  Goes to a Detroit team that hadn't won more than 30 games in 5 seasons, and within 2 years has them winning 44 and making the playoffs.

SVG the coach is fine.  It was his GM stint in Detroit that was atrocious.  No one can really do both jobs simultaneously, but especially not someone that has no experience in the front office.  It is just too hard.

I like him screaming and yelling at his players during huddles.

He was a fine coach with that Orlando team.

At least he will be out of the broadcast booth for awhile.  I really thought he was a drag in that role.

Good point - small victories!

Just need someone to hire Mark Jackson
