I'm sure there will be more soon. I forget where (ESPN?), but I recall seeing a list of players who have non-guaranteed contracts that become guaranteed if they are not waived over the course of the next week. Michael Ruffin and Jake Voskuhl are among those on that list, I believe.

You can add Bobby Jones and DJ Mbenga to the list so far.

Austin Croshere wouldn't be a bad fit here, he's certainly an upgrade on Big Baby.

I don't think Croshere is a better option than BBD, especially defensively.  People have been on BBD's case, but as I had said before, he plays well when there is more than one starter on the floor (as would most bench players).  Doc finally got the message the last two games and mixed in 2 starters (one of them Rondo) with the bench and the bench did much better.

I think we should sign Fred Jones and split Tony's minutes between Jones and Pruitt.  Then sign Marbury when he's available and try to trade for Joe Smith.  Then we'd be back in business.

I don't think Baby needs replacing. He needs augmenting, or potentially trading. It's not his fault he's 6'7", even if he is 300lbs. We need 15 minutes of hieght, which is why i'm perplexed we didn't make an offer to Deke (there must a story there -- like, 'if we give you x, will you sign?' 'well, i owe it to houston to go back to them' or whatever).

He is who he is, and he's a valuable role guy. Not like he's getting any help from the rest of the 2nd unit....

No, he's not. There's an entire topic about him:

None of those players are good enough to be in our rotation.

I disagree.  I think Fred Jones is good enough to replace Tony Allen.  Tony takes away every good thing he does on defense by doing 2 or 3 bad things on offense.  Fred Jones is a smarter player than Tony, imo.

Smarter he may be, but he's also a worse player. He aged very prematurely. Besides that, he's too small to be a backup wing, he's shorter than Pruitt.

Are any of these marginal upgrades worth the moralle impact a roster cut would have?

you honestly think morale would take a hit if they cut POB or sam?

I dont.

Actually, that's the list Henry Abbott compiled last season.

Bite your tongue - POB is the most beloved Celtic since Waltah

I posted this information in another thread, I thought it might be useful here since Lucky17 mentioned the thread and since it's a sticky thread covering these players over the next few days, so I re-posted it here.

Here's the list ESPN made on their weekend dime of players with non-guaranteed contracts.

Quote
All contracts are guaranteed for the rest of the season if a player is on a roster as of Jan. 10 or has not cleared waivers before 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan 9.

Teams will thus be required to shed any player deemed surplus to requirements by 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The 25 players facing the greatest risk over the next few days, all of whom are working on minimum deals:

Mario West (Atlanta); Juwan Howard (Charlotte); Lindsey Hunter and Michael Ruffin (Chicago); Jawad Williams (Cleveland); Rob Kurz, Anthony Morrow, DeMarcus Nelson and C.J. Watson (Golden State); Von Wafer (Houston); Paul Davis and Fred Jones (Los Angeles Clippers); Josh Powell (Los Angeles Lakers); Darius Miles (Memphis); Shaun Livingston and Jamaal Magloire (Miami); Austin Croshere (Milwaukee); Kevin Ollie (Minnesota); Sean Marks (New Orleans); Jeremy Richardson (Orlando); Dee Brown (Phoenix); Malik Hairston and Anthony Tolliver (San Antonio); Jake Voskuhl (Toronto); Juan Dixon (Washington).
