Playoffs start up this weekend and might be a welcome distraction for many from the current Celtic doldrums.
Thoughts? Predictions? Analysis?
My Wild Card Picks are HOU, GB, BAL, SEA
Only ones I feel totally comfortable on are the NFC picks. Could certainly see the AFC matchups swinging the other way.

Redskins, Baby!!
Don't sleep on em'!
Ask DAL, PHI, NYG, etc, etc....

My Wild Card Picks concurs with your predictions:

Baltimore beating Indianapolis 19-16 OT
Seattle beating Washington 24-20

I really don't know who I want to win this Bengals/Texans game.
Defensive battle so far although HOU driving now.
-
Teams have been throwing the ball all over the place against the Texans, but Cincy and Dalton can barely complete a pass. Maybe the Bengals should put their cornerbacks on offense.
-
Joe Webb doesn't look like the type of QB that can lead his team back from a double digit deficit right now. He did not look good in the 1st half (or the moments I saw channel surfing between the game & the Celtics).

Saw him throw a couple of times tonight. Looks awful. GB appears to be about to (virtually) put this one away.

Would set up a heckuva Green Bay/San Francisco matchup next week.

wow
that was a horrible penalty

Yeah, from what I've seen out of the Vikings O so far, that G score might've put a nail in it.

Vinatieri is so good

Ditto. If they let kickers into the hall of fame, he'd be a shoe-in.

I think Vinatieri's got to make it into the Hall. There are some transcendent kickers who are in there aren't there?

I am so psyched for the battle next week between P manning and Ray Lew. The battle of the one ring legends. Maybe they can get Brett Farve to commentate.
It all comes down to preparation this week. Will Ray Lewis' dancing practice take up more time than the commercial Peyton will make for Hebrew National Franks?
-
Best game of the weekend going on right now (SEA-WSH)
-
Looks like its Kirk Cousins time from here on out.
-
RG3 gonna have problems lasting playing the way he does
-
Divisional playoffs set. Pretty sick set of games.
Bal @ Den
GB @ SF
Sea @ Atl
Hou @ NE
Really looking forward to the Packers/Niners game and the Pats.
-
Great season, WAS....looking forward to next year!
Congrats to SEA for moving on...I'm picking them to win next week.
Get well, RGIII...and Orakpo, for that matter.
Getting Orakpo back will shore up our defense.
What a ride, though....I ain't mad, at all :).

Yeah, I echo that.
I'm a Pats fan, but of the NFC teams in the playoffs I like watching the Seahawks (though it was brutal to watch RG3 basically shred his knee all over again).
Also, I can't tell you how happy I am that there is NOT a Colts-Broncos playoff game. I couldn't have stomached all the lame story angles that would have been written this week.

It was brutal to see Shanahan leave him in for so long. Kid couldn't run or make a throw.

I like Green Bay and Atlanta.
I like the experience at QB for both those teams at this point. It is time for Matt Ryan to win a playoff game.
-
Much tougher this weekend for me to predict.
-Denver
-Green Bay (Not going against Rodgers especially when Kapernick is on the other side)
-Atlanta (I've been so back & forth on this. Tough one. I think the Clemons injury is significant)
-New England
-
My prediction for the Conf Championship games is New England @ Denver in the AFC. Green Bay will be @ Atlanta in the NFC.
Super Bowl will be Denver vs Green Bay.
Seattle could be the spoiler. I expect they will end up as the 1st wild card. If they have to go to Washington, I think they lose. If Dallas wins tonight, Seattle would probably beat Dallas. If Seattle could get one win, they could cause problems.
I did think Cincy and Wash would win in the wild card round, but so far, my conf champ matchups are still alive.
Seattle has me worried about my Atlanta pick, though. Atlanta needs to put up or shut up.

I had a New England-Green Bay Super Bowl (I think the 3rd straight year I predicted that) Maybe third time is the charm.
Sticking with it. I think whoever wins GB/SF is winning the NFC.

I'm just really looking forward to the potential Den/NE matchup. Not a fan of either team, but Manning/Brady is always good theater, especially now that this can be said about two different Mannings. Pats fans must hate that name-ha!

Yeah, its basically Brady owns Peyton who owns Eli who owns Brady.

I don't think it's luck. he's performed well but I attribute those Giant wins to better coaching by the Giants staff and their defense stepping up in the big game. If the Pats had a decent defense (no, I don't think they're as good as their in-season rankings) in those years, they'd have won both those bowl games.
I also think their D will be their undoing again this year.

The Tyree catch was lucky. That was a prayer of a throw. I don't think Eli himself would deny that.

See, if I think they have an undoing this year it'll be because of the offensive line and not the D.
Its simple. If teams can get the pressure up the middle, then the Pats offense is greatly altered. If they get protection for Brady then 9 times out of 10, they're winning.

Probably not the start that Baltimore wanted.
7-0 DEN

Nice. Huge interference call. Without that, Denver has it up 7-0 and in Raven territory off the punt. Go Ravens.

Wow. Pick six.
14-7 BALT

The refs have certainly made their presence know. Big missed interference call on that pick.

Yes, lucky there. Should have been 6.
-
Absolute laser beam by Flacco.
I did not see a 21-21 tie at the half. Figured it'd be a much low scoring game.
-
Ravens getting out-played for 75% of this game so far but have made 3 really big plays and the game is tied.
Crazy.
-
This game is ridiculous
-
knew this game be close
-
I could've sworn they were going to rule that Tuck Rule.
Shocking it didn't,.
-
Ravens D getting to Manning this half. Tide definitely moving in their direction right now.

But not now.

How does Denver's D possibly give up the deep ball there?
-
Wow. Wow. OT.
-
Could Flacco truly be elite? :o
-
Wow indeed.
-
OH yes. Cannot believe this one. Ravens pull out miracles today. Go Pats.
-
8 "one & dones" and a sub .500 record for Manning in the playoffs.
Unbelievable game.
-
Congratulation Peyton. You won less playoff games with the Bronocs than Tebow.
-
I like Manning but does he have more failures in the playoffs than any other all time great QB?

It's so hard to choose. Zero rings, vs one ring against Bledsoe with a ton of absolutely clutch ints and really refining the prima-donna thing, vs one ring against Rex Grossman, a Super Bowl losing int, all sorts of playoff losing ints (like today).
I mean how do you decide between that? Plus you gotta factor in that the whole time Peyton was losing so many playoff games he was making so many commercials. I mean I think he might have just made a toaster commercial and a commercial for Korean Airlines. I mean if you blinked at any time in the last 15 years Peyton made a commercial. At least Brett just stuck with the wrangler jeans.
-
Joe Flacco and his 5 career playoff ROAD victories now stands alone in first place all time. Stabler, Dawson, and Sanchez all have 4. Even more amazing is his 7 total victories has him tied with Stabler for 18th all time and he is just 1 playoff victory behind Dan Marino, Steve Young, Eli Manning, and Jim Plunkett.
Brady and Montana both have 16 victories in the playoffs, Bradshaw and Elway are tied for 3rd with 14.
-
Congratulation Peyton. You won less playoff games with the Bronocs than Tebow.
LOL..was just going to post something along those lines.
Peyton Manning will no doubt lead Denver deep into the playoffs during his time there. I have no doubt about that.
But as for now? Tim Tebow has lead DEN farther than Peyton Manning.
Wow.
And as for Tebow? Rex Ryan basically lied to that man..I hope Tebow finds a football home where his leadership and abilities can be best utilized and appreciated.
He deserves that.
He's been a good soldier in the Circus called the NY Jets...after Bart Scott's "Can't Wait" comment, The Jets haven't waited long to go down in flames each season since then.
Get outta there, Tebow! Let that sinking ship go down without you!
A tattoo of your likeness is NOT on someone's arm, LOL. Get outta there if you can. ;D

In fairness, Tebow and Manning both lost in the Divisional Round. The difference is that Manning earned the bye week by having the best record in the league and Tebow won a Wild Card game. The distance was the same.
And Manning was actually competitive in the Divisional Round. Tebow was pitiful and woefully overmatched.
-
Colin Kaepernick, wow.
-
What a game(Ravens/Broncos). The way they were playing it was going to come down to one mistake and who thought Manning would be the one. But I've always felt he was overrated.
-
3rd year in a row, my Pats/Packers SB pick is out the window. Oh well, Pats still alive going into tomm.
-
Kaepernick with 444 total yards and 4 touchdowns?
:o :o

That int was awful. He didn't even look that rushed when he ran out of the pocket. Then to throw on the run across the field? Just bad.

"Elite" QBs always have one mistake in the playoffs and when that happens, it's up to another part of the team to nullify the error. Too bad Denver couldn't cover Manning's flop.

Yeah. He looked really competitive throwing that game losing int.
How about Tebow lost on the road the Pats in his first year starting. Veteran genius Peyton lost at home to the Ravens. So young guy lost to Brady on the road. Vet lost to Flacco at home after a bye week.
And vet didn't have to take over a 1-4 team.
He needs to make another commercial.

That was a terrible interception, but Denver's secondary cost them that game. I don't think I've ever seen any team repeatedly get beat so badly on long bombs.

Baltimore was the better team. They won every statistical category except time of possession. More passing yards, more rushing yards, more yards per play, less sacks, less turnovers, less penalties, etc. If Denver didn't get those 2 kick returns, that game isn't even close.

I wonder whether we should be worried about the Ravens potentially coming to Foxborough. Does anyone feel the Broncos at Mile-High would have been an easier matchup?
-

If the Patriots beat the Texans today, than I expect a close game like all the others against the Ravens. I think this is a good matchup for the Patriots given they already played them this year and most likely won't allow Rice to dominate like week 3 matchup. The most important part is the PTriots will be at home this time, than traveling to Denver at Mile-high were historically the Patriots aren't too good at.
This is all doesn't happen if the Patriots don't take care of business today. Go Patriots!!!
-

Yeah, but Manning didn't look particularly comfortable either. The guy played his entire career in a dome, and threw with gloves. I don't think I've ever seen Brady with a glove on his throwing hand.

Tebow was also playing against the second worst pass defense in football last year. You can bend the story and stats any way you want.
Peyton's team was 13-3 and actually had a chance to win (the game went into double OT, it seems that you missed the actual game). Tebow's team went 8-8, lost in the same round, and wasn't even close.
I guess because Tom Brady plays on offense, Tebow had such a hard time scoring against the Patriots defense? That makes plenty of sense.
I'd point out the game losing play Tebow made last year, but that was every single play in his playoff game, so it seems like overkill.
9/26 for 136 yards for a QB that zero teams in the league want as their starter, what a monster game. Passing for 136 yards against the #31 pass defense and completing about 30% of your passes. Wow.
-
Gonna be a tall order for today's games to match yesterday's. Ravens/Broncos game was one for the ages.
Still back & forth on the SEA/ATL game.
Wouldn't mind seeing some vintage Brady today.
-
I wonder whether we should be worried about the Ravens potentially coming to Foxborough. Does anyone feel the Broncos at Mile-High would have been an easier matchup?
I think the patriots beat both teams but if i had to pick Id rather face the ravens without question. Ill take playing at home against anyone over playing on the road against denver.
-
My Niners sent Green Bay Packing!!!
What a way to Kaep off Colin's first playoff game. Unbelievable.

I'm a Ravens fan and would rather play the patriots over the texans. Houston is a horrible matchup for Baltimore, New England is not. And I know New England would be at home against B-More and on the road against Denver, but if I'm New England, I would have rather played Denver. New England just matches up better against Denver than they do against Baltimore.

Joe Flacco with the two highest passer ratings in the postseason and by a lot. Matt Ryan at least looks like he may challenge him today.

What a game this is turnign out to be. Not sure who I want. Who can beat SF?

Can't believe this one. Unbelievable how Atlanta has blown this. Now a 12-men penalty.

that's a td, game over

Worst sports cliche of all-time (IMO) = "team of destiny". You never hear about the so-called destiny teams that didn't end up winning. There have been many.
Didn't the Pats fumble into the end zone and recovered against Houston? Not sure but that's my memory. Tell me about the rule. Maybe the guy who fumbled was the recoverer -- can't recall.
-
I thought Atl might've turned a corner... boy was I wrong. They choked that lead away and now Seattle is right in this game and can take this (probably will).
And now it's over.
-
Matt Ryan was not going to lose.
-
Holy cow. Atlanta does it. Good for them.
-
What a game!
-
Not over... Again.
-
Worst sports cliche of all-time (IMO) = "team of destiny". You never hear about the so-called destiny teams that didn't end up winning. There have been many.
Didn't the Pats fumble into the end zone and recovered against Houston? Not sure but that's my memory. Tell me about the rule. Maybe the guy who fumbled was the recoverer -- can't recall.
The Team of Destiny lost. But then, they must not have been a true team of destiny.
-
Wow the Falcons stunned me because I thought it was over.
-
Nice to see Atlanta pull out a win.
-
Matty Ice not so cool today, but his kicker made up for it.
I think they'll get creamed in the NFC Championship but we'll see. The Seahawks and 49ers are similar teams.
-
94 yard return for houston and they can only gain 3 yards on 3 plays, dropping a td and missing a wide open Johnson for a td .
Pats are going to kill them.....
-
Why didn't Ridley get the start, is he injured?
-

Don't know but I think they just said Woodhead is hurt and questionable return. Woodhead and Gronk hurt in 1st 10 minutes of the game.
-
ugh looks like Gronkowski is done. Maybe I should stop making predictions. First I said the atlanta game was over when lynch scored for the seahawks
-
I am a little disturbed by how easily Gronk seems to have re-injured the forearm. Yes, he landed on it, but if it was that susceptible to re-injury, why is he out there, and if out there, why is he doing anything other than decoy.
Yes Vareen!
-
Boring game thus far. The highlight of the game is this

Get ready for the HarBowl.
Don't see the Falcons beating the much more well-rounded Niners (best defense in the league), or the Pats having enough weapons to down the Ravens, who are playing with tons of emotion. Pats are playing without Gronk or Edelman, and perhaps without Woodhead as well.

I'm buying some of this.
BUY, BUY, BUY!
-
Picks:
49ers over Hawks in a very close game.
Pats over Ravens in a game that is tight until the 4th qtr before Pats pull away decisively. don't bet against Brady, folks, he is very dialed in right now.
-
Picks:
Niners
Patriots
One game will be close, one will not. Just not sure which will be which.
-
Ravens will win
-
Sharing my weekly Patriots preview show here! GO PATS!

NINERS ALL THE WAY!
This time Kyle Wilkiams will not fumble!
-
Pretty easy touchdown for Atlanta. 49ers not dominating so far.
-
Pats better win, or the Superbowl Party is going to be pretty sad! That said, Go Flacco, go Pats, ha.
Did Atlanta celebrate too soon (their quick touchdown) and jinx themselves? I think it is always a mistake to celebrate anything before the final buzzer.

Nice to see that this is likely to be a game. Would mostly like to see this get physical and grueling. Not really the Falcons type of game, but Pats/Ravens is sure to be very physical.
Geez -- looked like a fumble, then looked like an interception. Atlanta with early momentum for sure. But that will probably change.
-
ATL is killing my NIners right now.
Darn! Let's go NINERS!!! We can do this!
-
Matty Ice & the Falcons locked in right now.
Both sides of the ball.
-
Road favorites and lock to represent the NFC Niners seem impotent so far.
Looks like 1st half against Seattle. Dominating this game right now. I think it will be important to get in the end zone on this drive -- make it a 3-score lead and put some early pressure on Colin to make things happen.
Hope they learned their lesson about getting too comfortable.
-
Wow. :o
Matty Ice doing this BC alum proud.
-
My boys are in trouble.
Matt Ryan is killing us. BAD.
Actually, Julio Jones is as well.
-
I'm getting this feeling that Sn Fran might use their draft picks for defensive guys this draft
-
This game looks like it is over before it even barely gets into the 2nd quarter.
Hawks versus Pats seems like a good Superbowl, much like Pats-Eagles and Pats-Panthers did.

DOn't say that NICK.
Franky is running good right now. We'll get back on track...
-
Not over yet.
Smart that '9ers not panicking and sticking to game plan by running the ball.
Rooting for Matty Ice, but '9ers still in it.

Sorry Yoki, but either team will be falling to the soon to be four time Superbowl champion Patriots anyway.
Ooh, look. Niners have some life after all.
DOn't say that NICK.

-
We got ourselves a ball game.
-
Inch by inch, we can get back.
Thank you LaMichael for calming me down for a bit. (and also all the Niners rooters in here, if there's any)
-
Kaep is as cool as Matty Ice right now.
Lets go Niners!
-
Wow, what a drive by Atlanta.
-
Terrific job by the Falcons to nullify Niners last TD.
But... Atlanta needs to find an answer for the Niners offense as they have just plowed through the Falcons the last 2 drives. Opening drives of the 2nd half will be huge.
-
Huge TD for ATL right before the half to grab back momentum.
-
That drive killed me.
I don't think the Niners' secondary will be able to stop those two giant receivers.
Let's go Niners. Ain't over yet.
-
I'd still bet on the Niners based on what I saw last week and their last 2 drives. Atlanta has been containing CK pretty well, but that appeared to be breaking down in the 2nd quarter.
That said, if Ryan can continue his awesome play, Atlanta will continue to put points up. I am very glad this looks like it's going to be a close one. Pats can learn a lot either way (if the Pats face 1 of these teams).
-
Matty Ice got PICKED.
Here's our chance Niners!
-
Akers is killing... the Niners this season. What happened to him...
-

Just happy I'm not an NFL kicker.
-
Bad turnover by the Falcons there.
-
Tragic play there. That could spell defeat for Atlanta.
-
Unreal huge roughing penalty.
-
Wow. Gut wrenching turnover by the Niners.
Right on the 1 yd line.
-
Huge turnover, but also a huge 3rd down upcoming
-
Feels like Falcons just delayed the inevitable.
1 first down there would have made a difference. Falcons in big trouble I think.
-
Atlanta is big time on the ropes now.
-
Good thing Atlanta celebrated early, because they probably wont get a chance later.
-
Wow -- If no slip there, he was gone.
-
This is a tough one. Ball definitely moved.
Is it enough to overturn, though?
-
Wow -- If no slip there, he was gone.
What a potential turnaround. Guy slips (or slightly overthrown) but wide open with lots of YAC possibility. And now it may get overturned.
Tough call but I think it's incomplete -- ball dislodged by the ground I think.
Glad I was wrong.
-
I think the Niners got screwed on that call, at least as it's always been described.
-
Gonna be a heckuva finish here
-
Ballgame
-
Got to hand it to SF. D comes through. Huge bat down on 3rd down.
-
There was a lot of contact on that last play.
-
What a weird final play. Why not throw it into the end zone?
-
Please allow me to celebrate this win for my hometown Niners!
Who's got it better than us? NOBODY!
-
What a weird final play. Why not throw it into the end zone?
Yeah, that was hard to explain.
-
Matty Ice still has "clutch" questions in big games, turning the ball over as much as he does.
Having a better run game and a credible pass rush would certainly help him look better, though.
-
Pats or Baltimore will have their hands full v. the 49ers and neither is likely to get spotted a 17-0 lead.
Atlanta did contain CK throughout and I think gave a blueprint to how to play them. Atlanta got a nice break on the challenged play on their final drive but could not deliver when it mattered. Atlanta was shut out in the 2nd half by a defense that seemed somewhat vulnerable.
Congrats to the Niners. Go Pats!
-
God I hope we don't get the HarBowl. Don't want to think how boring that game would be.
-
What a weird final play. Why not throw it into the end zone?
Yeah, that was hard to explain.
it might have had something to do with Ryan injuring his shoulder on the previous possesion
-
Go wind. Wish Ravens were receiving first.
