OK don't see him so....
with the #29 pick the Toronto Raptors select Brook Lopez
Brook is tough to build around but that's a lot of talent and scoring this late.
So is Rubio though
True, though not to the same degree, IMO. Rubio has major deficiencies as a scorer and shooter but he's a remarkable player in every other category. Lopez is an excellent scorer but has major deficiencies elsewhere (in just about every area).
Just got home. Thank you commish for your help. I gave him a list of 20 guys (approximately how many picks before mine) and Brook Lopez was #4 on the list. I love the pick as my BPA, and getting out of the NBA abyss that is Brooklyn will help Lopez. I love having a 30 pt scorer and a 20 pt scorer with my first two picks. It helps that one of them is 7 ft tall.
Brook Lopez is not a great defensive player. He has, however, averaged over 18 points, 7.5 rebounds, and almost two blocks per game over his career playing on mediocre-to-bad teams. He has never had anything close to Steph Curry on his team. Lopez benefits more than almost any other player with a change of scenery.
Tough to build around? If he was my best player, I could see that (my team would be the Nets). However, I picked the player who has won the last 2 MVPs as my best player.
I imagine you're not building around Rubio either. That's why you drafted Durant. Rubio reminds me of a less-athletic, less competitive Rondo.
I was hoping he would fall to me, great pick!
I had season tickets for the Nets' first three seasons in Brooklyn and have long considered Lopez underrated. He's the best value pick of the round. (I don't know how to rate Bosh...) He's put his injury troubles behind him and was a nightly threat for 20 despite drawing heavy attention while playing
without an starting caliber point guard for most of the year. He's a threat from anywhere inside the arc, works the offensive glass (13th) and draws fouls at a high rate (23rd). He ranked top 40 in real +/- ahead of Anthony Davis, LMA, Blake, and Melo last season. There's also a successful blue print for pairing Curry with a traditional big man.
