Dunkirk today...  one of the worst war movies I have seen.  one of the worst Nolan movie I have seen.   Nolan + War movies = overdone

Nolan hasn't directed any other war movies:

2017 Dunkirk
2014 Interstellar
2012 The Dark Knight Rises
2010 Inception
2008 The Dark Knight
2006 The Prestige
2005 Batman Begins
2002 Insomnia
2000 Memento
1998 Following

Dunkirk has a 92 rating on Rotten Tomatoes, 94 on Metacritic, and 8.8 on IMDB,

Go watch it and get back to me... The sound score is what ruined it for me

Im a big nolan fan...but this one was steak well done

Have you seen his first two films, "Following" and "Memento?"  Two ingenious and masterfully crafted affairs!  "Inception" is in my all-time top 10 film list, and I'm greatly looking forward to viewing this latest epic.

You're telling me to go see the movie I reviewed before you did?

USA Today:

Quote
"Dunkirk is also one of the best-scored films in recent memory, and Hans Zimmer’s music plays as important a role as any character. With shades of Edward Elgar’s Enigma Variations, the melodies are glorious, yet Zimmer also creates an instrumental ticking-clock soundtrack that’s a propulsive force in the action scenes."

In any case, based on its Metacritic scores, it's the clubhouse leader for Best Picture.

idk. some films i'm compelled to watch bcs I love the genre. some others are just too good to miss.

but i try not to put too much faith in reviews. one of my fave movies is dismissed by its single Rotten Tomatoes reviewer as "almost unbearable, overlong and empty melodrama."

oh who cares

A Monster Calls.  very sad movie.  can pretty much see how the whole story will play out but still worth seeing.

I haven't been to the theater in a bit but I did watch Urban Cowboy last night. It's a pretty fascinating time capsule for 1980.
1957, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1968, 1969, 1974, 1976, 1981, 1984, 1986, 2008

Watched "Over the Top" on Netflix last night while doing a fantasy draft.

What an amazing, terrible, awful movie.

That killed me.  That was the last movie I saw in theaters too.  I'm a big Alien guy and that movie had so much potential and then it just devolved into a generic action movie in the 2nd half of the film.   Ugh....  Such a disappointment.

Oh yeah. I watched that a couple of years ago with a buddy when we were drinking and didn't quite know what it was. To be honest, I still don't quite know what that movie is.

Wow, I specifically mentioned to my girlfriend while watching it how great the score was in that movie, and that's not something I generally comment on.  I thought it added a ton to the intensity of the movie.
