Having taken Fultz

Danny ran a knife through their back with that one

which will ultimately now cost them to start from near scratch , and adding to he huge trash pile of first round picks they have burned .

Wasted months and years trying to fix Fultz then giving up , Embiid is now near the middle of his career and he has barely played .  26 years old .....Tatum done more at 20 already

There's no "All of the above" selection lol.

Granted - Markell may win only one game vs MIL but that is one more than PHI.

I think sixers has the right idea with Hinkie but they / him failed to get correct advise on how to pretend that they are not trying to lose. For instance lakers were trying to lose but were also spending a third Of their cap on Kobe and his farewell tour. He shot them out of games most night since he was taking 25 shots a night at very low efficiency.
On the other hand Hinkie and sixers owners were going about meeting their cap floor in a sleazy way:
They would be at 40% of cap till trading deadline then acquire a bunch of overpaid expiring contracts to meet the 90% floor and get second rounders in the process. Doing this was not against the rules and was actually smart but it was depraving some nba free agents of deserved contracts and were hurting relationships between owners and players union.
They were financial champs but also a constant PR disaster.
Now Adam silver who forced their hand to fire Hinkie and bring Colangelo is a public enemy #1 in sixers land .
Here's the thing, though: we have no evidence that Hinkie actually knows how to build a roster. The only thing he knew was that tanking for better draft picks was a smart idea. He made some awful decisions (drafting MCW and Okafor, trading Jrue Holiday for Noel, etc.).

So we don't know for sure how Hinkie staying around would have panned out.

Yeah, some of those drafts (and then giving up on them while they were still on their rookie contracts) were shockers. Abandoning Noel (they could have had Adams, or of course Giannis) and MCW (could have had McCollum or Schroder) was very premature. Then the drafting of Okafor over KP, abandoning Fultz after a year who has hilariously gone on to being solid in Orlando. Add on the $280m they have locked up in Tobi Harris & Horford as well.

Man, hilariously inadequate

In large part because of Jimmy Butler and JJ Reddick. Butler hit alot of big shots in those playoffs. Both those guys averaged like 18 points per game and provided scoring/3point shooting

one of their biggest mistakes was moving on from those guys and deciding to pay big $$ to Al Horford/tobias harris. Now those guys are eating up their cap and it will be tough to improve.

They squandered most of their picks from "the process" now look at Jimmy Butler leading Miami..

Reddick was a big loss for them. I had forgotten about him, but he was an ideal fit for their roster.

Yes to all this. The Harris and Horford contracts are a disaster for that team. Yikes. No idea what they do til they can drop those anchors.

They would've still had to play OT.

And they would've still had to play Milwaukee Bucks, and maybe it could've been the Milwaukee Bucks going into the Finals lol.

The Horford and Harris signings are the death knell for the Process.

Instead of resigning 2 crucial pieces in Butler and Reddick or arraning to sign another UFA (Kemba would’ve been a perfect fit on the Sixers), they allocated their resources to Harris and Horford. Those moves put the Sixers in disrepair.

Side note: Ainge would not have traded the #1 if his intel reported that Tatum was the Sixers top prospect. Also, giving up on Fultz before his rookie contract ended was another terrible move among many others.

What sucks the most is that the miscalculations have all added up.

Philly overestimated the fit between Embiid and Simmons. Maybe this duo could have worked 15 years ago but not in the modern NBA
Philly underestimated how much JJ Redick's shooting benefited them because it negated Embiid/Simmons' clunky fit together
Philly underestimated the edge that Jimmy Butler's go-to scoring in the clutch gave them. With him off the team, they lacked a go-to scorer
Philly overestimated Al's abilities, thinking his presence could help them and hurt Boston, neither of which happened
Philly overestimated Tobias Harris' scoring prowess because he can only thrive as a scorer if he has more scorers who can space the floor
And as always, there will always be the infamous Fultz for Tatum trade. No elaboration needed.

The only addition that really worked out for them was Josh Richardson. He was their second-best player in this series. If Josh Richardson is your second-best player, then pretty much everything has blown up in your face.

Really, it all went wrong in 2018 when they had a stronger campaign than they anticipated. Getting the third seed and winning a playoff series convinced them that they needed to become a contender ASAP when really they had all the time in the world. They jumped the gun when they cashed in their assets and tied their cap around Harris and Horford. Now they're locked into this dysfunctional group for the foreseeable future.

Sixers salary cap looks pretty ugly.
