Anybody dumb enough to do this?

I'm standing in a line of 300+ people, in the snow, at Toys R Us. I'm hoping to save a whopping $35.

Haha that is awesome. You're a savage. I hope your kids appreciate this commitment. Also, I hope you get the right toy.

Standing in line because you are desperate to get a Hatchimal would make more sense.

Never done Black Friday, hopefully never will. Madness.

lol wow.  Just watched the video on it.  http://www.hatchimals.com/ ...  Intense.

I'd never stand in line for Black Friday deals.  Aren't most of them BS?  Aren't there tons of examples of them raising the prices significantly before Black Friday and then lowering them to normal price as the "discount"?

I might check out some of the online deals, though.  There's a subreddit dedicated to it https://www.reddit.com/r/blackfriday/

I did it exactly once. I didn't have anything I wanted to buy, but I had never done it before and was curious as to what all the fuss was about.

And now, I have no interest in ever doing it again.

in all honestly, why? even your post implies that $35 is not a large amount.

in any case, hopefully you snagged your stuff and are home nice and cozy now.  ;D
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Second. I don't like shopping on a normal day. Zero chance of getting up early to deal with that kind of insanity.

I'm still young and healthy enough to do it, so why not, right?

The store was well-prepared for the most part, and the crowd was remarkably polite, so it worked out okay.

I'm not into it myself, but I give props to people that are sacrificing sleep for the kids.

Honestly, what is the major criticism with liking your kids?

It is not about the money for everyone. For some it is just an experience. There is also something about bargains that just makes you want to buy. It seems that winning is part of the human genetic code, and a bargain purchase is a win, even when you do not need the item. IN this case a win win, you get the bargain, the store sells you what you do not need. You hit PARETO (for those that are not economists look it up).

If there is one thing I'll never understand in American culture it's the appeal of crowded, stampeding, shopping on Black Friday.   My kids are older now, but when younger holiday shopping was always in moderation - so dealt with regular crowds but not the Black Friday craziness (saving a few dollars or making sure the kids had the latest thing never seemed worth it) .   From what I see on TV, seems to be worse every year.  Hopefully good for the retailers but not sure it's America's proudest tradition.  No offense meant to those who love it (or who do it to put a smile on your kids' faces), but it has no appeal for me at all.
