how about Markieff and C Wood from Detroit for the Williams "brothers"  :)

I would expand it and add Rose and Svi for Langford and Poirier

I hope New Orleans losing streak reaches 25-30 and Derrick Favors gets bought out so we could sign him with a promise of playing time. After a short adjustment period he could fit quite well into Theis' slot in the starting lineup and get a good 25-30 MPG. Favors helping the Celtics into a very deep playoff run could go a long way to helping him maximize the value on his next contract.

C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark

Going to throw out LaMarcus Aldridge's name.

He's under contract for the remainder of this season and next, so he wouldn't be a half-season rental.

He could be the missing piece to a trip to the finals.

Also, the Spurs are off to a lousy start, so they could be looking to sell at the trade deadline.
Heard a rumor on NBA Radio that he will be shopped.  I’ve never been a LMA fan...

This my current best case scenario given that the C's dont really have the salary  to trade for a better option with Hayward or Smart being n the deal.

I originally made this thread with the idea that Hayward if he underwhelmed could be matching salary, but thats pretty unlikely now.

Speaking of buyouts, not sure which teams have applied for a Disabled Player Exception and can outbid the C's...

Quick Google says these have been granted:

Blazers (Hood) $2.859 million
Lakers (Cousins) $1.75 million
Pelicans (Darius Miller) $3.625 million
Wizards (CJ Miles) $4.37 million

I was wondering whether there was a a jack of all trades power forward in the P.J. Brown mold in the league this season. I thought of Thaddeus Young but he is being paid 12m by the Bulls for some reason. If he were bought out I might take a flyer on him.

The buyout market is too risky, it's a bidding war.

Going the trade route is still the best option.

Guys like Poeltl, Noel, and WCS will only cost the Celts a player like Poirier and a draft pick.

Maybe Blake Griffin will get bought out. Seeing how much he struggles he has to be the worst contract in the nba right now.

According to nick, the Celts could feel that adding a guy like WCS, Noel, or Poeltl won't make a difference against the likes of Embiid and Giannis.

Here's the thing, although Kanter is better than all those 3 overall, those 3 Centers are also all better than Kanter on the defensive end.

If Kanter is only decent on defense, the Celtics' problem of needing a big man is solved.

Unfortunately Kanter is worse than Olynyk on defense.
That's why the Celts need someone like WCS, Noel, or Poeltl.
All 3 are better than Poirier and all 3 will do better on the defensive end than Kanter.

So why not upgrade if it will only cost the Celtics Poirier and a draft pick?

Joakim Noah played pretty well for the grizzlies end of last year.
Wonder if he’s following the  pj brown  route (sit out half a season, sign with a team headed to the playoffs)
Would be a great addition.

Right now the Celts are the #2 seed and Brooklyn is the #7 seed.

What a nightmare if the Celts have to play teams with quality big men from the 1st round to the east finals.

We all saw how Theis got dominated by Jarrett Allen and DeAndre in Brooklyn.

If the Sixers end up the #3 seed, that means the Celts will most likely face Embiid and Horford in the 2nd round.

In the east finals, it will most likely be the Bucks.
Celts will need another big body to help contain Giannis.

I think the Celts can get away without having a better Center than the what the Celts currently have if they face the likes of Miami and Toronto.

Both those teams also play small like the Celts.

It's just not a good idea to head into the playoffs and not doing something to improve the team when clearly everybody knows what the problem is.

I agree that any of the core 5 is untouchable.

But losing a draft pick, when the Celts have plenty, and a guy like Poirier is not worth an upgrade?

Ainge has stayed away from players with off the court issues.

Jay King brought up Markieff Morris as an option, and honestly, it's not that bad of an idea given that Boston has limited options financially.

He can play the 4/5, has been excellent shooting from three this season - shooting 41 percent on 4.3 attempts a game - and should bring similar tenacity that Mook did when he was in Boston. He's been productive on a really crappy Pistons team, so odds are, he'll probably be available.
