Sam Vecenie and John Hollinger on Game Theory Podcast speculating on Boston's 14th pick, thought that CLE (5), Detroit (7) or even NY (8) may be interested in trading their 1st round pick for Boston's 14, 26 and 30th. Since they need to develop their roster depth.

I would do that to get Killian Hayes or Deven Vassell, one of whom should be available there.   Point is there may be interest in teams wanting to trade down due to their need to fill roster space and lock in longer cheap contracts. Boston is in better position, draft pick wise, to trade up than any other team. Also motivated given our roster situation.

I’d do that for Wiseman in a heartbeat.

This is the draft to trade down. All the  talent seems mediocre so take a bunch of shots.
As a playoff team with limited development playing time you trade up if you have the assets.

I'd be shocked if 14/26/30 was enough to get us a top 5 pick.  Even 7 or 8 would be pretty surprising.

That said, if our first round picks this year are all it takes to trade up into the top 10, I'd do it without hesitation.  Wiseman, Okongwu, and Hayes would all be very intriguing to me.  Avdija is another guy I'm intrigued by, though wings probably shouldn't be a priority for us.

From a purely value standpoint 14+26 probably gets to you no higher than say pick 10. In 2018 PHO got the 10th for the 16th and a MIA 2021 first. in 2017 POR got 10 for 15 and 20.

After that adding the 30th pick probably doesn't get you anymore than 2 more slots up, so to about 8th, and thats probably close to the best case scenario. But really at that point you need some luck, because you need a team in that range to actually be okay with moving down and to want 3 rookies next year. But in this weird draft maybe you can find a team that would rather just take a few extra swings.

Avdija dropping to us at #14 would be insane, I don't see that many teams passing on his on/off-ball hybrid skillset.

Edit: Nvm lol. Thoughts on Okoro if we trade up?

Unfortunately for me, my brain has decided there is a drop off after pick 13.

The Top 10 is set, in no particular order:  Edwards, Wiseman, Ball, Okongwu, Okoro, Toppin, Halliburton, Hayes, Vassell, Avdija.  The only guy who has a chance to fall of top 10 from that group is Toppin IMO...being replaced by either Nesmith, Patrick Williams or Achiuwa, but unlikely.

So those latter three in some order are pick 11-13:  P. Williams, Nesmith, Achiuwa.   (very close scenario to draft.net before they fall of the rails with later part of mock....imo hehe).

So, at pick 14, we are left to draft IMO Saadiq Bey or one of the PG's.  I would think the PG at that spot would have to be Hampton.  Hampton being good size and the one who has a chance to be better than some of the picks ahead of him.  The rest to me just seem like good level starters (Kira Lewis Jr. for example...).

In other words, picking at 14 we are either getting solid Saadiq Bey or risking a bit on Hampton.

I guess with Bey (along with Hampton) we can hope he outperforms a couple guys in the top 13...can S. Bey be better all around than Nesmith for example?  Or all around end up better than even Toppin?

In any case, If Danny views Hampton and or Maledon has too risky at 14, I wouldn't be surprised to see him trade up even just one spot.  (though I'd rather trade up further for Okongwu)

The other option is to go specialist at 14.  Tyler Terry being the specialist.  He may never start due to size, but he may be a Celtic backup for 12 years or more....he's not that small though...one day, post Kemba, he could probably start...I assume he will gain a pound or three over time...

Was listening to Max Carlin, the draft guru on Celtics Blog.

He thinks the Celtics should really focus on getting a guard at 14, that guard is where the value depth is. He is very keen on the Celtics taking Tyrese Maxey at 14. Feels his mid range game will be a perfect complement to Tatum.

Surprisingly (to me), his second choice is Cole Anthony at 14.  Thinks his game will adjust well at the NBA level.

He would be okay with Hampton.

He likes Vassell alot if we were to take a wing, but doubts he will be available.

He was adamant that the Celtics should stay away from both Saddiq Bey and Aaron Nesmith. He feels they have no ability to penetrate, they are strictly outside shooters who can't create their own shot.

Carlin was a big fan of Grant Williams pre draft, so depending on how you feel about that whether or not that was a good pick by us (I think the jury is still out) may determine how you feel about Max' evaluations.  He puts a ton of time reviewing prospects and analyzing their film.  I respect him.

Just wish he wasn't so keen on Cole Anthony!!

There should be more volatility this year than ever, and predicting is tough in a normal year. Much like last year with Romeo, Danny will pick the guy that drops that he likes the most. One of the following will likely fall to us at 14.

Vassell (please)
Nesmith
Precious
Patrick Williams
S. Bey
Kira Lewis
Cole Anthony
Tyrell Terry
Jaden McDaniels

I'd trade the rest of the picks for future draft capital. We have enough young guys with limited ceilings.

If you hope to get one of the above guys, good news, you can get at least two of them with the current C's picks. Would you be happy with Achiuwa and Terry?

Which player in this draft has the biggest gap between their recruitment status coming out of high school and how they performed in college?

Danny seems to love going for guys who were seen as future top picks who then had rough seasons in college.

edit: just peeped the ESPN high school rankings from last year.

Candidates:

Vernon Carey
Cole Anthony
RJ Hampton
Jaden McDaniels

My guess would be Cole Anthony.

Attached list will help you determine.

Cole Anthony (ranked 2nd nationally), Stewart (ranked 3rd) and Hampton (ranked 5th) would be the strongest candidates under this theory.  Many are now speculating that we will take Anthony or Hampton with the 14th pick. Stewart would probably be available at the back of the first round.

Cole Anthony---1/2 please
Tyrell Terry----please  (the forever spark from bench)
Jaden McDaniels---1/2 please at 26.

Draft Express-ESPN’s Givony proposed Celt and Pistons swapping first round picks as well. We would move up to 7. This was mentioned on Vicenie-Hollinger podcast too. So the idea seems to have some traction. Will depend who is available at 7.

Whom we would have to be available at 7 for you to make that 3 for 1 trade ??
