GSW receive: Smart, 2020 14th pick, 2020 30th pick
Celtics receive: 2020 2nd pick

Personally I am not a huge Wiseman optimist but if Celtics get a good look at him and believe in his potential, this could be a trade that benefits both teams.

It's a swing for the fences move but one I'm glad I don't have to make. Wiseman is intriguing no doubt.

I cannot picture my favorite Celtic Smart in Golden State....

I can only picture him on Spurs or Dallas...not really Houston.  I think he and Pops were good at Olympics.

So if the C's want to trade Smart for Wiseman....they have to use the Spurs.

https://tradenba.com/trades/WyK-lEWTE

Aldridge, Derek White, Grant Williams and pick 11 to the Warriors. (Pick 11 is not a huge drop from 2 in this particular draft)

Smart, Wiggins, Kanter, Ojeleye, Edwards, Poirier, pick 26 and pick 30 to Spurs (expert late drafters in a very good late draft kind of draft).

Dejounte Murray, Rudy Gay and pick 2 to the C's.  (I personally wouldn't draft Wiseman I'd trade down a few spots...but this is a Wiseman thread)...(C's hang on to pick 14).

That’s my thought, as well.  But, I read this today (from the Bay Area) suggesting Danny would be the one to immediately say no:

Quote
Smart and the No. 14 overall pick in the upcoming 2020 NBA Draft for the second pick? If the Warriors called the Celtics with that proposal, they'd hear a few seconds of laughter and, then, the dial tone.

Why on Earth would the Celtics accept such a trade? Even if they're head over heels for a certain 2020 draft prospect, it's extremely hard to believe that they would view that as a good value proposition. Even if you remove the 14th pick from the equation, it still seems heavily weighted in the Warriors' favor.

Smart and Draymond on the same team would be such an absolute pain for LeBron to have to deal with out west.

I wouldn't do it though. I think Wiseman has some serious potential (not many guys his size have that fluidity ever really) but I love Smart too much

Only trade Smart if we are flipping the 2 pick plus other assets for a star otherwise makes little sense.

Everything I'm hearing on the rumor mill says that the 2nd overall pick is not sufficient to get an all-star.

All-defensive NBA players may not be all-stars, but their on-court impact is pretty similar or just less than an all-star level player. Most advanced stats bear this out and most contenders in the NBA know the value of all-defensive players.

I don't think we'd have to include the 14 and the 30 in that trade. Smart is on a great contract for a couple more years, fits securely into the Iggy trade exception this year, and can fill the Iggy/Livingston role at a high level. His havoc-style offensive and defensive game would fit perfect in their system.

I think the Warriors would do a trade of Smart for 2, or maybe Smart and 30 for 2.

I don't think the Celtics would, unless they really, really believed in the 2nd pick. Like, Ainge would have to be convinced like he was with Tatum to do that trade.

I don't trade Smart plus other picks for the #2.  At best it is a short term step back that maybe in the long term pays off (but no certainty).  We need to be taking steps forward right now, not backwards.

And wouldn't GSW need to send something back to match salaries?  They have Curry, Thompson, Wiggins, Green all making big money and then no one else over $5M.  They would have to send back at least two players (scrubs) and maybe 3.

Or is this based on doing it after the draft and trading the actual players.  I guess then there is some matching salary.

If we could somehow open it up so that we could get Paschall and #2 for Smart and one of our 1st rounders this year I would probably be tempted enough to pull the trigger. Huge fan of Paschall

Wiseman does seem to have the most upside, and none of us actually hear what teams want for these picks, but Okongwu is supposed to go 6-10 and he looks like a better fit to me. It should be possible to get there without giving up someone as valuable as Smart.

It always bugged me that Ainge didn't go after a big in 2018. Wendell Carter has had some nagging minor injuries, but he seemed ideal for this team. Ainge has not seemed to be willing to take a hit to consolidate picks.

This is a super important draft. I'll be pretty disappointed if he stands pat and drafts at 14. Please, please go get Okongwu, Halliburton, or both!

they have an even larger trade exception
