White better be worth it. Feel like other decent players were had for a lot less.

Who did you have in mind?

L.A. Clippers Receive: Robert Covington, Norman Powell
Portland Trail Blazers Receive: Eric Bledsoe, Keon Johnson, Justise Winslow, 2025 second-round pick (from L.A., via Detroit)

The Knicks sent forward Kevin Knox II and a 2022 first-round draft pick via the Charlotte Hornets to the Hawks for Reddish, Solomon Hill and a 2025 second-round pick (via Brooklyn).

Caris LeVert and a second-round pick to Cleveland and Ricky Rubio, a lottery-protected 2022 first-round pick and two future second-round picks to Indiana.

Kings receive: DiVincenzo (from Milwaukee), Josh Jackson (from Detroit), Trey Lyles (from Detroit)
Pistons receive: Bagley (from Sacramento)
Clippers receive: Rodney Hood (from Milwaukee), Semi Ojeleye (from Milwaukee)
Bucks receive: Serge Ibaka (from Los Angeles), two second-round picks, cash

Charlotte Hornets Receive: Montrezl Harrell
Washington Wizards Receive: Ish Smith, Vernon Carey Jr.

White is vastly superior to those players.  The only guy at his level who was traded was McCollum, who went for a little less but has a far inferior contract.

Come on...McCollum is a much better player. I would have preferred Norman Powell over White. Lavert and Divencenzo are on par with Derrick. Reddish may turn out to be a better player than White, shooting 36%+ from 3pt, is 6’8” and was a top 10 pick. Only 22 years old.

You are just unequivocally wrong here.

McCullom is a better scorer/shooter than White, but did you know that McCullom is only at 20.7points per 36 minutes this year and White is at 18.7 points per 36 minutes?

Did you know that White is averaging 5.6 assists per game compared to McCullom's 4.6? Meanwhile, White has less turnovers per game.

And that doesn't even begin to compare their defense, where CJ McCullom is not even in the same stratosphere as Derrick White, because CJ is one of the if not the worst defensive guards in the NBA.

And that doesn't begin to talk about McCullom's contract where he is owed 69 million dollars over the next two seasons after this one, which is 17 million more than White is owed over the next three seasons.

And, as I mentioned before, the Pelicans had to WAIVE CJ's physical to complete the trade! Doesn't that send up some red flags?

I advocated that CJ would be a great option for the Cs, but I think White on his contract is a better option for the Cs than McCullom on his contract.

McCollum is an all star caliber player. Career 3pt% of nearly 40%. White can’t shoot from the outside at all. He’s worse than Marcus Smart from deep this year. CJ is an elite scorer. There is a reason McCollum makes nearly double what White does, it’s because he’s a better player. If CJ was in Boston he would be starting. White is not. He isn’t even starting over Marcus Smart. Enough said.

He's not an all-star caliber player. He's never been an all-star and is on a downward trend over the last few years.

CJ makes nearly double because they couldn't figure out how to pair a legit all-star with Lillard for half a decade, and there was nothing else they could do. He's one of the worst contracts in the NBA today.

Doesn't it give you a little pause in your thinking when you realize that one of the worst run NBA franchises over the past 5-10 years just traded for him?

LeVert is reasonably comparable to White but if what we are hearing is true, White is a better defender, better all around player.  Still, they paid less for LeVert in that trade (not sure a lot less is accurate).  CLE did have a nice expiring contract though.  Overall, I am happier with White than I would have been with LeVert.

I wouldn't want Powell, very undersized.  And McCollum (also mentioned by someone) is a really very different deal, both in terms of accomplishments in the league and contract.

Powell is 6’4”, 215 lbs with a 6’11” wingspan. White is 6’4”, 190lbs with a 6’8” wingspan.

Powell is an undersized wing, would never play PG.  White is a good sized combo guard (PG/SG) but would be undersized as a wing.  Kind of like Grant Williams, 6'-6" would be fine if he was a wing but he isn't, he is an undersized PF.  Powell is an undersized wing.  I prefer White to Powell in any case.

“He checks a ton of boxes,” Boston coach Ime Udoka said of White on Zolak & Bertrand. “He’s a perfect fit on and off the court. Guy that’s going to come right in and be selfless, work hard, offensively and defensively. Does a lot of things for us. Another guy with good length that can add versatility with our group. He knows what I want. I know him well. Where he’s been brought up, we have a lot of similarities in our background.”

Tatum said he was thrilled to see guys he knows — especially because White should fit in seamlessly with the team.

“A really high IQ basketball player, very gifted offensively, a great defender, and somebody you just love to have on your team,” Tatum said of White. “So I think we’re very lucky to have him.”

The Nuggets just beat Toronto in a close game. We are now virtually tied with the Raptors for 6th place. We’re actually fighting for a top 6 finish!

We would move ahead with a win tomorrow, and then can get within a game of Philly with a win on Tuesday. Philly then plays the Bucks and we play Detroit, making it possible to be tied for 5th heading into all star weekend if everything breaks right. Let’s go C’s!
2023 Non-Active / Non-NBA75 Fantasy Draft, ChiBulls:

PG: Deron Williams 07-08 / M.R. Richardson 80-81 / J. Wall 16-17
SG: David Thompson 77-78 / Hersey Hawkins 96-97
SF: Tracy McGrady 02-03 / Tayshaun Prince 06-07
PF: Larry Nance Sr 91-92 / Blake Griffin 13-14
C: Bob Lanier 76-77 / Brad Daugherty 92-93 / M. Camby 06-07

Who would have thought that this was even possible a couple of weeks ago. What a turnaround.

Reporter: Marcus, How good can you and White be defensively as a tandem?

“We can be great.  Me and him, two of the best defensive players in the league. And on this team we can do some things with the lineup which we couldn’t over the past couple of years as teams would pick on a couple of our guys because of our size. Not now...

Hopefully JB is right about Smart’s ankle not being too bad...

“[Smart’s] temperament has been fantastic over the last 10-15 games or so, which has been great for us,” Jaylen Brown said. “So seeing him go down was tough. He seems to be alright, not too bad, but definitely got to find ways to step in for him in his absence, especially tomorrow.”

Taylow Snow: Doc Rivers: “You watch Boston play, and you can literally see the improvement of their ball movement. The old Boston is more isos. This Boston is driving and playing with each other. That’s what makes them so much tougher.”

What's he mean by "temperament", I wonder?  What changed in the past 10-15 games?

Now we wait and see on Smart. Ankle sprains come in three grades:

Grade 1: 1-2 week recovery, day to day for a mild sprain.
Grade 2: 3-6 week recovery. Ja Morant missed 24 days earlier this year with a grade 2.
Grade 3: 6+ weeks, usually requires surgery. Smart's was probably not this serious, people typically can't put any weight on it at all. He did manage to hobble off the court.

Luckily only 4 games in the next two weeks thanks to the break. vsDET, @BRK, @DET, @IND before a game at home vsATL on March 1st. Still after that the schedule in March gets a little tougher, so hopefully he back in more like 2 weeks than 4 weeks.

Man, if we could get out of this will him only missing four games -- three of which should be easy wins -- it would be awesome.
