How about this JKJB trade idea where we try to make Wiseman and/or Kuminga our future number three in a Big 3. We could execute this on January 30 at the earliest:
Trade 1
BOS In: Turner
IND In: BOS TPE, 2022 BOS 2nd, 2023 POR 2nd, 2023 HOU/DAL/MIA 2nd
Trade 2
BOS In: Wiseman, Kuminga, Moody, Mannion
IND In: Smart, Timelord, 2022 BOS 1st swap, 2023 BOS 1st swap, 2025 BOS 1st swap
GSW In: Sabonis, Schröder, BOS 2024 1st, BOS 2026 1st
So basically trade 1 is for taking Turner off their hands, which not any other team can do for them. We do not agree to do that unless Indiana and GSW agree to trade two (or Indiana agrees to deal Sabonis to us for what we send out above, sans those 2024 and 2026 1sts).
Here is the accounting:
IND In: Smart, Timelord, 2022 BOS 1st swap, 2022 BOS 2nd, 2023 POR 2nd, 2023 HOU/DAL/MIA 2nd, 2023 BOS 1st swap, 2025 BOS 1st swap
IND Out: Sabonis, Turner
GSW In: Sabonis, Schröder, BOS 2024 1st, BOS 2026 1st
GSW Out: Wiseman, Kuminga, Moody, Mannion
BOS In: Wiseman, Kuminga, Moody, Turner, Mannion (makes the GSW dollars work within $100K)
BOS Out: Smart, Timelord, Schröder, BOS 2024 1st, BOS 2026 1st, 2022 BOS 1st swap, 2023 BOS 1st swap, 2025 BOS 1st swap, 2022 BOS 2nd, 2023 POR 2nd, 2023 HOU/DAL/MIA 2nd,
Commentary: From our perspective, think of it has two firsts and then our three first-round swaps, Smart, Timelord and our three second-round picks for Wiseman, Kuminga and Moody, all of whom are under age 21 and recent lottery picks on cost-controlled rookie contracts. Taking on Turner is to make it happen. From the perspective of GSW, they’re upgrading Wiseman to Sabonis and replacing two recent first-round picks (who are not doing much in their rookie year) with two future first-round picks. Definitely a slight win for them now and probably into the future too. Finally, Indiana gets two solid players and a bunch of swaps/picks, with flexibility to build their frontcourt around Timelord, moving forward.
Our new ten-man rotation the rest of the year:
Pritchard/Mannion
Brown/Richardson
Tatum/Kuminga
Wiseman/G. Williams
Turner/Horford
We would have to hope we can find a PG with our 2022 1st and/or hope Pritchard grows. We’d have this roster in the off-season, assuming we can bring back Horford:
Pritchard
Brown/Richardson/Moody/Langford
Tatum/Kuminga/Nesmith
Wiseman/G. Williams/Hernangomez
Turner/Horford
Priority one would be turning our 2022 1st, Hernangomez, Langford and Nesmith into PG depth. Would not be against trading the first with them to get a starting PG if we’re not convinced an great prospect PG will be available in the draft. Ideally the latter happens and we can still turn those three players into a backup PG:
2022 1st PG/Backup PG/Pritchard
Brown/Richardson/Moody
Tatum/Kuminga
Wiseman/G. Williams
Turner/Horford
Add a couple ring-chasing bigs for slots 13-14.
