No way could we get Dejounte Murray for Jaylen Brown. The former is a leader and alpha who is helping the Spurs punch way above their weight…

This is … something. The Spurs would agree to that trade in a heartbeat.

Jaylen was top-ten in the NBA in scoring when he went down. Scores at all three levels at elite efficiency. Solid work ethic, plus defender. His playoff performances show a player who does not shrink from big moments.

Murray is a nice player and I’d be very happy to have him; he’s also a PG carrying a career 33.5% average from 3.

Kind of becoming clear we need a total rebuild around Tatum, especially since Brown is surely going home to CA after his current contract expires (when we really think about it, JKJB must be a JK). Just get us a clean slate for the whole darn thing, leaving all of this Ainge nonsense in the dustbin of history with the exception of Stevens and Tatum:

- Move Brown to OKC for as many first-round picks as they’ll give us, or try to facilitate Brown to LAC, Paul George back to OKC, plenty of picks to us
- Ship Smart to someone in the west for a matching, expiring contract(s), one first-round pick and one distant future (2026 or 2027) first-round swap (we get the better pick)
- Ship Schröder to a contender in the west for a first-round pick and matching, expiring contract (or TPE)
- Ship Timelord to a contender in the west for a first-round pick and matching, expiring contract (or TPE)
- Ship Freedom to a contender in the west for a second-round pick and matching, expiring contract (or TPE)
- Ship Richardson to a contender in the west for an expiring contract even if it requires giving up or swapping a second
- Ship GWill to someone in the west for expiring contract(s) and a second-round pick or swap
- Ship Hernangomez somewhere for an expiring contract
- After Tatum secures his all-star nod, sit him with a *wink, wink* injury so we can have a shot at the top pick in the lottery and he can relax. Tell him we’ll have plenty of cap room if someone like *wink, wink* wants to join forces and help rebuild a new tour de force.
- Make Pritchard and Nesmith starters so we can see if they’re worth keeping come off-season (or ship them if we can somehow get a first-round pick in return, which is doubtful).

Off-season:
- Cut Horford if there’s no way to turn him and picks into a solid young player
- Decline the option for hot garbage AKA Romeo Langford
- If Pritchard and Nesmith did not impress after being starters for about half a year and there’s no way to turn them into a pick(s), do not pick up their options

All of the above leaves us with Tatum, a ton of cap space for someone like Beal in 2022/2023 or Jokic in 2023, and a ton of picks to use to possibly build a contender around Tatum and a future max free agent. If we do not bag a big free agent in 2022, sign a bunch of one year hungry guys to fill out the roster in addition to our rookies and Tatum (2014/2015 type model).

If Udoka isn’t working after 2022-2023, not pulling off the type of results CBS had with a ragtag band in his second season, fire him and go with coach/GM Brad Stevens in 2023-2024. No more bad personalities will show up on Stevens’ roster in the future, or they’ll be on the trade block.

It’s basically a huge vote of confidence in Tatum and Stevens, and gives us a lot of potential paths towards building another dynasty. It’s probably not happening any other way, folks…

Handing the whole team to Tatum and the allure of becoming the highest paid player in the NBA someday (can only be achieved by sticking with your original team for a long time) will keep Tatum here even if we struggle the next 2-3 seasons (and Tatum will still only be 26 at that time). This utter mediocrity, the challenge from JB of JT’s alpha status, and no obvious path forward are the things most likely to result in him leaving or demanding a trade.

With so many draft picks, if we draft smartly and have some luck, we could have a young Big 3 or even Big 4 by the middle of this decade. That’s exciting!

Brown is clearly going home to California, huh? Where did you get that since his hometown is actually Marietta, Georgia, right outside Atlanta? He very famously drove the 15 hours from Boston to his hometown of Atlanta during Covid to protest at racial rallies there last year. You must have missed that

His shoes were very Park Avenue. So New York must be his new home.

He chose to go to UC-Berkeley, about as far away from Georgia as you can get in the US.

It’s beyond obvious that this no-team-ball, pad-my-stats, my-biggest-competition-is-Jayson, be-an-all-star is one big try-out for one of the CA teams. Not dealing with that sooner than later is going to result in losing JB and then JT right after that. No assets. Garbage for years.

Best to instead hand the whole team to JT with three years left on his contract, especially if it can be timed with “Happy Early 24th birthday, Jayson - you’re the man now, dawg, and let us know which friend you want joining us in the next year or two.”

I went to school in Cleveland. That didn't make it my home. And I was there for 4 years, not 1, like JB was at UC Berkeley.

Nothing like reading these ideas to ‚improve‘ the team after a rough stretch. Really helps you calm down and realize that the team could actually be in the hands of much more incompetent folks who would be determined to ruin it for decades…

I’ve spent many nights thinking of a way to turn us into instant title contenders and this is probably the only viable way given the hot mess that Portland has become this month:

BOS In: Lillard, McCollum
BOS Out: Brown, Smart, Horford, Hernangomez, whatever combination of picks/swaps in first-round of 2022-2027 it takes (and leave it to Portland whether to keep or move these players for picks in their rebuild…presumably they’ll rebuild around JB, the best young player they can possibly get for their aging superstars)

Could be executed as early as January 25.

Our rotation with two guys in their prime who, given medical advancements and clean living could play well into their late 30s (look at TB12 and CP3):

McCollum/Schröder
Lillard/Schröder
Richardson/Nesmith
Tatum/G. Williams
Timelord/Freedom

Next off-season we try to recruit ring-chasing vets with this decent foundation:

McCollum/Pritchard
Lillard/Langford/Begarin
Richardson/Nesmith
Tatum/G. Williams
Timelord

Jordan/Pippen were winning titles in their mid 30s against Stockton/Malone in their mid 30s, so really believe this Big 3 could compete for 5-6 years and, with luck in the draft, perhaps beyond given Tatum’s youth.

Greenly, this is the latest trade idea you came up with on NBA2k was it? And you want three small guards in the backcourt?

Also good luck convincing whoever replaces Olshey to pull the trigger on this and damage their own career prospects while they're at it  :police:

What about this idea:

Trade 1
BOS In: Bledsoe
LAC In: BOS TPE, Protected 2nd

Trade 2
BOS In: Ibaka
LAC In: BOS TPE, Schröder

In other words, leverage the TPEs to move Schröder for Bledsoe and Ibaka, which hopefully gives LAC space to re-sign Schröder come off-season (although they’ll want him for a push this season).

Trade 3
BOS In: Conley
UTA In: Bledsoe, BOS 2023 1st

In other words, turn our 2023 pick and Schröder into Conley, so we finally have the pass-first PG we want. Conley is 34, so Utah decides to start Jordan Clarkson with Bledsoe coming off the bench, plus an extra first for next year. Yeah, Conley is 34, but he’s still really good and can be our poor man’s version of Chris Paul.

Our nine-man rotation - if they click, who knows what we could do:

Conley/Smart
Smart/Richardson
Brown/Nesmith
Tatum/G. Williams
Horford/Timelord

Six-man depth for injuries:

Pritchard
Langford
Hernangomez
Ibaka
Freedom/Fernando

Come off-season, just pay Al and try to add to this core with our 2022 picks and one key MLE veteran:

Conley/Pritchard
Smart/Richardson/Langford
Brown/Nesmith/Begarin (or dump for 2022 2nd)
Tatum/G. Williams/Ibaka
Horford/Timelord

As this thread demonstrates, it’s really hard to improve our team without moving JB or JT…but perhaps this is one way. Definitely loved Conley’s game for years and, who knows, maybe he can be elite another 4-5 years.

so Clips give up 2 productive players (Bledsoe will be considered productive for the sake of the argument) for Schroder and a second round pick just so they can have 2 TPEs worth a little over 18 mil and 9 mill each just so they  can resign Schroder next year?  then you think Utah is going to ditch their starting PG who's having a really good year for Bledsoe and a first?

seriously?

Not to mention the fact that the Clippers would still be massively over the salary cap line and have no way to sign Schröder the money he wants. They would be in the same predicament the Celtics are with Dennis.

Of the three players, Schröder is having the best season by far. Ibaka is only considered a “productive player” at this stage if compared to the hot garbage that has been most of our bench the past two years. Clips would probably love to turn Schröder into their starting PG and use him to beat the Lakers.

Clarkson and Conley have split PG duties about 50/50. If Clarkson makes it clear he wants to stay and get paid, but has to be the unquestioned starter, it would make sense for the Jazz to choose him (29 years old) over Conley (34 years old). Bledsoe is still a good backup guard off the bench, so Bledsoe and a first is nothing to turn your nose up at with regards to a 34 year old Mike Conley.

Conley and Clarkson split time because one is the starter and one their 6th man of the year backup at the PG position. They are both signed through the end of next year. Your reasoning makes zero sense.
