At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

"Full thread of Brad Stevens' Media Day comments starts here.

Of note, right at the end of his time at the podium, Stevens said Jaylen Brown is full-go for the start of training camp. That's huge news for the Celtics after Brown's wrist surgery.

Smarts interview was pretty interesting. Some good questions from the reporters and I hope Marcus follows through with his words regarding his new role as a point guard. Also seems that he didn’t want to get vaccinated, but did so for his team and so that he didn’t have to hear about it from the media.

Hernangomez was asked a lot about his summer -- for those that don't know, he was supposed to play on the Spanish national team at the Olympics, but the now-fired Timberwolves president refused to allow it.  Juancho is clearly still angered by this.

Brad spent a decent amount of time emphasizing Hernangomez’ cutting ability as something that will help him fit on the floor with the J’s.  For those of us that wished for more cutting action in the offense, apparently Brad agreed.

Glad to hear this.  I would like us to do more cutting / moving without the ball.  I have been disappointed with that for our team for years.
We often let opposing defenses off the hook by not running them ragged more.

Juancho is a good fit on this team.

Horford gushed about Schroder for about 45 seconds at the end of his interview.  He sounded legitimately excited to play with him again.

Sounds promising for Grant Williams:

Grant Williams said he gained weight to play center when he first got to the league & was sluggish playing the 4 at that weight last year. So he's lost 12 lbs this summer and plans to lose another 8-10 to be a better athlete & play the four more. Said he wants to be a "Baby Al."
5' 10" former point guard

Career highlight: 1973-74 championship, Boston Celtics

Career lowlight: traded for a washing machine

I guess it's the only thing he can really do.

He looked slow-footed last year. Good for him.

Baby Al?  How about just a baby Ryan Gomes?  Gomes, as many no doubt recall, was a 6'-7", 2nd round pick tweener (SF/PF) who carved out a nice 6-7 year NBA run/career.  At age 23 (just), Gomes was a rookie on the Celtics and put up 7.6 pts and 4.9 rebs.  Went on to average about 10/5 for his career.    Grant will be 23 in November.  His career so far is 4 pts / 3 rebs.

Gomes played at 6'-7"/250 lbs (maybe he was not really 6'-7", I don't know).  Grant listed last season at 6'-6" and 236 lbs, maybe that was before he beefed up to play center.  So if he really is 236, I don't see how he is going to lose 20 lbs or so.  Jaylen Brown is 6'-6" and 220 lbs.  Marcus is 6'-3" and 220 lbs.  Does he want to be smaller than Jaylen?  That will be interesting.

I agree that it was silly to think he could play Center.  He best shot is as a PF.  If he can give us 10 productive minutes a night at PF, I will be happy with that.

I am excited about Schroder also.  I see him as a valuable pick up.  Of course, I thought Teague would be good also (not as good as Schroder but good for a back up).
