Why on earth would they resign Cam? I can't think of a stupider decision.

I’d prefer Ryan Fitzpatrick as a stopgap, for sure.

I have a feeling the Mills signing indicates the Pats will be trading Gilmore in the coming days. Gilmore is CB1 but to be honest our secondary is still pretty loaded with JC Jackson and others. A Gilmore trade saves about 7M in cap room. Also, teams have interest in trading for N'Keal Harry (idk why...) and Bryd could leave in FA. So even after signing 2 WRs already, I wouldn't be against trading Harry and signing another WR like Samuel, Fuller or Marvin Jones.

The only two surprises for me today was why we overpaid Judon (who I think is kinda overrated), and also why did we pay Agholor 13M a year and not give Corey Davis 12M a year instead which is what he signed for. Not that I dislike Agholor and he did well in 2020, but I'd rather Davis especially at that price.

Judon overrated? I think he’s exactly what our edge needed. Rushes the passer within the scheme to good effect (high QB hit %), sets the edge really well, which is something we desperately needed given our weakness to the outside run, and he can drop into coverage too.

Pretty sure Judon is 5th overall in the league for QB hits over the last 3 years (or was it 5...?)

He’s a three down player for us. Fits us like a glove

Hate to put a damper on today, but seeing Washington sign Fitzpatrick to 1 year 10 million makes our Cam contract look bad.

Why? We'll be paying Cam less than that even if he starts the whole season and we make the playoffs. Cam is obviously a worse throw than Fitzpatrick, but his ability to run and extend broken plays is far more impressive than Fitz's. He also knows our plays. Newton isn't great, but he's serviceable, and I'm sure he'll be better after a long layoff to recover from the COVID effects

Idk man, if you think Cam is serviceable, you and I have a very different definition of the word "serviceable". He was putrid last year. Just an average quarterback would be a welcome improvement over Cam.

Re-signing Cam is only a bad move if we don't take a QB early. If we trade up and draft a QB, then I'd rather have Cam as the vet presence with more money to spread around to other positions than Fitzpatrick with less.
I'm bitter.

Two premium tight ends?  Definitely a BB offense.

Woah, now that's a bombshell. Bill wants to play those dual TE sets again, like he did with Gronk/Hernandez. Now all we need is to draft a quarterback that can get them the ball.

WOW, so they signed the Top-2 FA TEs available  :o

The other thing to note is that Jonnu is 25 y/o, Henry is 26 y/o, so these aren't just veteran/solid guys, they are pretty young with a lot of potential as well going forward.

I think this could also explain why they didn't add someone like Samuel/Davis/Golladay. They wanted to double dip at TE to get a true dual-TE threat there, and Agholor + Bourne are still solid additions.

I think at this point, the rest of our moves will be mostly internal. Maybe they work something out with Andrews and/or White. Potentially restructure a few guys. Gilmore is a trade candidate. And maybe just some other minor FA additions here or there for depth.

We also have to draft a quarterback in the first round, whether it be Lance or Jones. Getting all these shiny new toys only to go into the season with Cam and Stidham would be a shame.

Makes sense.  White is super useful when you have a QB like Brady.

When your QB is Cam Newton he's a wasted asset, like a spoiler on a Toyota Camry.

The good day that was yesterday gets knocked down a peg if the pats lose James White.   Valuable asset.
