FOR THE TEAM.

I'd say that since the departure of the big three, the center position has been where their presence has been missed. at point guard we've had Gary Payton, Kenny Anderson was solid for a couple season. at 2 guard we've had Dee and Ricky. at the three we've had Reggie, and Paul. at power forward Dino, Antoine, Big Al, and now KG. and then theres center, theres been...

ERIC MONTROSS- 2 seasons, about 8 point, 7 rebounds
DINO RADJA- 4 seasons, 16 points, 8 rebounds (really a power forward)
VITALY- 3 and a half seasons, 8 points, 6 rebounds
BATTIE- 5 seasons, 6 points, 6 rebounds
MARK BLOUNT- 6 seasons, 7 point, 5 rebounds
RAEF- 3 seasons, 8 points, 5 rebounds

then

KP43- 5 seasons, 5 points, 5 rebounds.

not really all that impressive stat-wise but he is only 1 of 3 to last 5 seasons and appears to be a building block for the future. Perkins has developed into a known defensive enforcer and in the past year has shown he's beginning to have some offensive touch.

note: perkins' first two season avg. under 10 minutes per game.

Yeah I'd have to agree with this.  Wow, we've had a pathetic bunch of centers for a long long time.  I havn't really thought of it like that.  Thats a large stiff list!  Perk is a beast!

The only one close is Blount for half a contract season.

(I would still consider Jefferson a PF even though he played a lot of C)

all our "best" centers between parish and perk are really PF's playing C. (Dino and Al)

I'm not sure yet. While he's improving, I must admit, I still like Battie. Maybe he was too thin to guard really big centers, but he moved well, played good D, rebounded and has a nice shooting touch. I'll have to think about this one.

Not saying much at all.  KP43 better than bad.  ;)

i agree...

he has limited offensive ability...pretty mechanical in the low post...continually brings the ball down around his waste instead of keeping it elevated above his shoulders...he's mostly a garbage player with some skill.

but since the nba is deprived of great centers he's probably one of top-tiered ones...

...which as you said, isn't saying much.

Both Vitaly and Tony Battie's offensive game is far superior to that of Perk's.

Perk's defense is slightly better than Battie and Battie's defense slightly better than Vitaly's.

I think if you combined Vitaly's toughness and offensive game with Battie's length and defensive quickness, you'd get the complete player that we would imagine Perk to become.

Al Jefferson is way better than Perkins.  He's a center.  That's the position he's playing right now with the Timberwolves.

They way he's playing right now, Perkins couldn't beat out Greg Kite.

I think it's more of a dead cert to say Rondo is the best PG since DJ. We haven't had a great center since Parish. We haven't really had a good one actually, let alone great.

Tony Battie was as good as Perkins IMHO and Jefferson of course is better. So I got to disagree. I realize the stats slightly favour Perkins and when all is said and done he will be better..

It's a matchup thing though and against some centers Perkins would be much better. But Battie's mobile help defense, shooting and ability to finish above the rim would be loved on this team too. (back in the day)..

You do have to factor in the fact that Perkins is playing with Pierce and KG up front. He gets alot of garbage points that Battie would have done well with too.

TP for your post,agreed...although T.Battie has become a very good backup in Orlando.

I couldn't stand watching Battie get pushed around.  I liked Vitaly even though he had a 1 inch verticle leap.  He was tough guy.
I'd put Sherm Douglas close to Rondo until Rondo becomes more consistent.  The guy has 2 great weeks followed by 2 horrible weeks and he's been doing that all  year.
