Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens has been named the NBA’s Executive of the Year for the 2023/24 season, the league announced today (via Twitter).

In his third season as the Celtics’ head of basketball operations after eight years as the team’s head coach, Stevens put together a dominant Boston roster that posted a 64-18 record, easily the best mark in the NBA, along with a +11.7 net rating, the third-best mark in league history.

The Celtics were coming off a 57-win season in 2022/23, but Stevens shook up the roster drastically last summer, trading away longtime defensive stalwart Marcus Smart in a deal for Kristaps Porzingis, then moving key role players Malcolm Brogdon and Robert Williams in a a blockbuster for Jrue Holiday as training camps got underway.

Stevens also signed several Celtics players to contract extensions in the past 12 months, including Jaylen Brown, Payton Pritchard, and Holiday.

Never really in doubt, as evidenced by him getting more than twice the votes of the second place finisher, but a well-deserved honor nonetheless!

He certainly deserved it!

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Well deserved - the fact that none of our players were dominant enough to be nominated for any awards shows how talented a roster everyone had around them.  I almost feel executives should be judged on a rolling 3 year basis as some moves get better over time.

Totally deserved. Now let's hope it pays off in a title!

Obviously deserved.

I thought he also deserved it two years ago when he swapped Kemba for Horford, extended Smart and Time Lord, and brought in White and Theis midseason, while staying under the tax.  That team went to the Finals, and if you go back and look at it, this year’s moves were all set up then.  Theis was turned into Brogdon, and Malcolm in turn was paired with TL to bring us Holiday.  Smart, of course, brought us Porzingis, and White and Horford have excelled next to the Js.

Brad has done a terrific job — he clearly has a vision of how the team best fits together, and makes far better use of contract extensions than Ainge did.

Definitely well deserved. If you look at how he transformed the team from when he started, despite a few bumps along the way with Ime's resignation and Joe's sudden promotion, and how he managed to maintain cap flexibility to put us in a position to get Zinger and Jrue, while still keeping Wyc happy at not having to spend money until it became an inevitability...he's certainly exceeded even the high expectations of him as an executive. Compare what he's done to the disaster in Phoenix. Glad we have Brad.

I came on here this morning just to congratulate Brad Stevens for his award as GM/Executive of the year--a performance in the fine Celtics tradition of Danny Ainge and, of course, Red Auerbach.  Brad has turned out to be a better GM than coach--and he wasn't that bad a coach.  His brilliant two pre-season trades have vaulted the Celtics to the brink of another Championship. Go Celtics.
